Wiseman Merritt was born on September 6, 1857, and died at the home of his son, Seaborn Merritt, in Elvins on Monday, February 13, 1939, aged 81 years 5 months 7 days.
He was married in 1887 to Miss Alice Rollins, who survives. They were the parents of nine children, four sons and five daughters, all of whom survive: Girney, Seaborn and James Merritt of Elvins, George Merritt of Eminence, Mo., Mrs. Ethel Mahurin of Webb City, Mo., Mrs. Ada Reese of Bunker, Mo., Mrs. Ruth Minor of Salem, Mo., Mrs. Pauline Ellis of St. Louis and Miss Dorothy Merritt of Los Angeles, Calif. Also left to mourn his death are thirty-three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Gunnett of Roselle, Mo., other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held from the Assembly of God Church in Elvins at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, conducted by Rev. Dunn. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Bismarck. Spark's Service.
