Hello~

I am trying to find descendants of the seven confederate soldiers executed on May 28, 1865 and buried at Cowan Cemetery, Wayne County.

I am attempting to embark on a major project for replacing their individual headstones with brand new marble stones. I am not seeking money - it will be paid for by the federal government . After the stones are in place, I want to hold a dedication ceremony and would like the decendants to be involved. The seven men buried there are: Nick Taylor, Thomas Raney, Michael S. Barnhart, Jonas Meyers, George R. Smith, Rufus Holmes, and my g-g-g uncle, Hugh McGee. I think they all need appropriate headstones although there is a very nice monument in front of their graves.

If you are a descendant, or have suggestions on this subject, please email me direct at lynchwnc@aol.com This is a brand new project and I would love to see it happen for all of us - our ancestors deserve it!
