I have some pics of Henry & his obit (original newspaper clipping) that states Edith as his sister. I have a couple of pics that say Edith, but I'm not sure if that is the right Edith.

Please let me know if you might be interested in looking at my pic.

Thanks,
Angela Goering

I recently ran across some notes taken at least 40 years ago in a conversation with my great aunt. She indicated that she was related to the Coverdells of Worth County. I knew a Gayle Coverdell myself as a child in Grant City, but did not know she was a distant relative. There was a Coverdell grocery on the south side of the square. Claud Coverdell comes to mind. If I understand it correctly, it would be through Sarah Miller, who I believe may be a sister to Mary Louisa Miller who married John Culver. I don't have the list of brothers and sisters available at the moment. I have some information on the Millers if you are interested.

you probably are already aware of this, but just in case...there is a corner on the highway west of Grant city that has always in my memory been referred to as the "Merckling corner." the old residence (it was vacant in the 1950's i think) which is no longer there was on the inside of the corner as the road turns from west to north, approaching the bridge and bottom land for the West Fork of the Grand River. I haven't read Pansy's book (she was my second grade teacher)but the Nation is in the NE part of Worth County, some distance from the abovementioned corner.

Thanks for taking a look :) I originally posted this photo back in 2001 and honestly don't remember if I also posted in Nodaway Co or not - I'll have to take a look... I've wondered if this was a photo of 'teachers' rather than players... It might explain the varying ages, but if so the quasi-uniforms have me stumped 'unless' they were all sports teachers? But this would have to be for a fairly large school. Hoping someday I'll find out the significance of this photo :)
Thanks again for looking!

I regret that is not a photo I have seen. After reading your discussion below the picture, I cannot add much. It does strike me odd that there aren't many in the picture, unlikely for a team photo. And the obvious age disparity is odd too. In the area in question, Maryville, Maitland, Maysville, Mound City, are the first possibilities that come to mind. Have you posted to the Nodaway county site?

I don't know if you are still interested in info. on your picture. I cannot access it here as you instructed, so if you can email it to me, I would appreciate it. I have a picture of a girls basketball team of that era. My grandmother and great aunt on separate family lines are in my picture. I don't have it accessible at the moment, but I will know if yours is the same picture. If it has a Spillman connection, as it appears it must, it would likely of course be connected to Worth county in some way. There is a Miller School close to where the Spillman family lived east of Denver.

If you read the response from DavidTodd 42 (which if appears you have not) you will see a great deal of the information you are seeking regarding THBJones. He was not an artist; I'm afraid you misread my message...actually the orginal Thomas Hart Benton was a MO senator, I believe, from 1821 to 1851 and is doubtless the source of your THBJones' name. I can add some addition information to what DavidTodd provides: THBJones was the son of Laban Jones and Sarah Harris. He was born Jan. 22, 1840 and was one of 11 children. I take this info from my grandmother's records. Laban Jones was a brother of my great-great grandfather Pendleton Worthy Jones. PWJ was the first of the family to come to Worth County in 1868 from Ill. I have more information, if you would like it.

This is a part of my family line. My grandmother was a Jones and I recall this name in her lineage materials, as it reminded me of the MO artist Thomas Hart Benton. I will turn to this and see what I can find. Do you need information on the previous generations, because I have some of that as well.
Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone aware of a Dawson Funeral Home that existed in Grant City in the 1940's and 1950's? I am unable to find a death certificate online and would like to contact the funeral home. My family seems certain that William Hass was taken to the Dawson Funeral Home. There is not one there now but their records may have been taken over by another facility. Please let me know if you have any information. Thanks
