Looking for any information about John E Shackford who settled in St Louis around 1820 with his wife Jane C Smallcorn Shackford. I have a copy of his land office grant from 1824, know he ran a business with Gen Ranney, believe he was on the board of aldermen in 1824 and know he worked in the US Senate as Doorkeeper. He left this job in 1827 and returned home for medical reasons and died Aug 16, 1837. Have two questions - 1) why wasn't the probate not finalized till 1841 and 2) trying to verify he had a son George R Shackford and find any information about George. Thanks for any help you can offer
