This posting is a little old and I am very new (and not good) at ancestry.com, but I would love any info you have on James Blackstone Campbell, his wife, Sarah Kain Campbell (my great-great-great grandparents) and their daughter Fannie Campbell. They are listed in "Progressive Men of Montana" and in "Material Goods of Steamboat Passengers," since Fannie was on the Bertrand when it sank. along with sister Anna. Who married Frank Dunbar.

Are Chester, Edna, Dale or Sedoanya related to them?

Thank you,
Morrell

I'm trying to find out if Iris Kellison who died Dec. 27, 1938 in Billings MT, is the same Iris Payne born between 1917-1919 to Arthur L. and Mary Ostrum Payne. Iris Payne was born in Glanaron, ND.
In the 1930 North Dakota census Arthur and Mary Payne, are shown to be the parents to Oscar, Iris, Arthur, Charles, and Leonard Payne.
In Iris Kellison's obit, it states Mr. & Mrs Arthur Payne and five brothers and one sister.
In the following year Mary Payne and two of her sons, Arthur and Charles were killed in a car/train accident, with another son Kenneth surviving.
With the knowledge of the sons listed in the census that list Oscar, Arthur, Charles and Leonard. And the newspaper listing Arthur, Charles and Kenneth. All the sons added up to five, with a unknown name sister.
I'm just trying to see if this Iris Payne is the daughter of this Arthur and Mary O. Payne. And of course the unknown named sister, if this family is the one and same.
I'm looking for the burial site for as many members of this unit as possible. I've found who I believe to be the right man in the census data. He appears to be a native of (West?) Virginia, lived in Texas for a short time before the Civil War and was in Kansas when this unit was formed. It appears he ended up in Montana with his family, and likely lived out his life in Gallatin or Park County, Montana. One source indicates he died 6 Aug 1910.
Any help appreciated.

Yes, Ancestry's death index was messed up from about 1954 to 1962 or 1963. This index says that he died in Gallatin County. You can go to the following link to obtain a copy of his Death Certificate from the Gallatin County Clerk & Recorder:

http://www.gallatin.mt.gov/Public_Documents/gallatincomt_cle...

The Social Security Death Index, says he died in Wise River, Beaverhead County, MT 59763. There are two possibilities: This address refers to where the last benefit was sent; and/or it could be that Oscar Simpson resided in the area covered by the Wise River Post Office, which is a very rural area, and that he died in a hospital in Bozeman, Gallatin County (which might be the nearest large hospital to his residence).

In any case, the Death Certificate will tell you where he resided, where he is buried, and what funeral home was in charge of the burial arrangements. If it turns out that Gallatin County does not have the certificate, then you should contact the Beaverhead County Clerk and Recorder:

http://www.beaverheadcounty.org/html/departments.html

Good luck!

The Montana death index was really messed up in the sixties. According to the Social Security index, he died in Wise River, Beaverhead County, Montana. You might post your question there. Jane

Hannah Olsdotter b 1817 Sweden married Anders Lundwall. They came to United States in 1862 and settled in Omaha. After Anders' death Hannah moved with family to Montana. Her daughter Johanna (sometimes referred to as Hannah)married Joseph Crowell in Omaha and later resided in Montana. The second Hannah Olsdotter, b 1846, was the wife of Martin Lundwall (son of Anders). She was the daughter of Lars Bengtsson, whose family also came to US from Sweden in 1868. A third Hannah, daughter of Martin and Hannah Lundwall died as a young woman in Montana.
I have a great deal of information and pictures on these families if you are interested in these particular people.

Our time in the Bozeman area will be limited, though, so I'm hoping someone has actually gone there and could let me know how easy it is to find and access. Don't want to spend a day wandering dirt roads only to miss the target - also don't know if it's now on private land. I'm originally from Montana & attended MSU, so am aware of the country around there. Thanks for the other info. on Gallatin County also.

I don't know if anyone in your family is interested in genealogy, but I have acquired some information on the family of Augusta Broetsmann Matthis as a result of some research I've done on my own Voigt family. Johanna Gauger Voigt was the half-sister of Augusta Matthis. I have found information on this family back a couple of more generations in Germany.
In Johanna Voigt's obituary from 1927 it states: "Besides her immediate family, she is survived by two sisters, one at Fenton and one at Threeforks, Mont., and one brother in Canada." The sisters were Augusta Matthis and Albertina Schendel, who lived in Iowa until her death in 1956. I have never found the brother in Canada, but based on family naming patterns, his name was likely Friedrich. The spelling of Broetsmann is done a number of ways, the most common in the German records was Broitzmann, and in the US I have found a lot of variations. If anyone is interested, please have them contact me at:
sweaneyd@aol.com

Don Sweaney
Springfield MO
