Mary HATFIELD obituary b. 1881 Ireland

*note: the obituary and the cemetery transcription conflict. There was no date on this clipping I found in my family's things.

Rites Held Tuesday For Mary Hatfield, 87

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Mary [sic] Hatfield, 87, long-time teacher in the Fortine area, were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Father Gerald Lynam officiated. Music was by he Catholic choir.
Interment was in the Fortine cemetery. Pallbearers were John Gehre, Moritz Gehre, Joe Flanagan, Joe Stoken, Herb Wilke, and and [sic] John Vukonich.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Flanagan, Bert Wilke, Fred Titchbourne, P.V. Klinke, Don Weydemeyer, and Winton Weydemeyer.
Mrs. Hatfield died Saturday, March 22, at the Hot Springs hospital.
She was born May 14, 1881, at County Waterford, Ireland. She came to the United States with her family at the age of 12, and they lived in Hubbell, Mich., here she met her husband, Ted Hatfield. He preceded her to the Fortine area in 1913 and she joined him and they were married in Kalispell on August 12, 1913. A carpenter by trade, he built their home near the Reinwand service station. Before her marriage she had taught in Michigan and South Dakota, and after coming to Montana she graduated from Normal College at Dillon, after which she taught at Trego, Sheldon Canyon, and Fortine. She had retired from teaching about 16 years ago.
She and her sister, Mrs. Bridget Reinwand, had made their home together most of their lives. The two women had been in the Hot Springs nursing home since Oct. 1.
Mrs. Catherine Power of Hubbell, Mich., is another sister. The only other survivors are several nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death.

This most likely came from The Tobacco Valley News (Eureka, MT), but there is nothing to indicate the source or date. Suspect it's 1968, but again, that conflicts with the cemetery transcription.

My grandfather, Delbert Brown, was killed in a saw mill accident in Eureka on Oct. 27, 1966. His wife, Donna, then sold the sawmill.

I am trying to find any printed information I can...such as newspaper articles. Unfortunately, my grandmother did not hold onto anything, and has since passed...

Thank you SO much for any help or assistance you can provide!

SPUIT, SPUTES, SPUTE, SPENT of Chautauqua Co., NY

This family first appears in Chautauqua County, New York in the 1875 Census in Chautauqua Township:
SPUIT, August b.1836 - SWE	head
SPUIT, Mary S. b.1834 - SWE	wife
SPUIT, Charles A.	b.1860 - SWE	son
SPUIT, John William	b.1863 - SWE	son
SPUIT, Christine	b.1867 - SWE	dau
SPUIT, Oscar b.1871 - SWE	son

Three young women are also listed for the first time in 1875, but all in Jamestown, all working as domestic servants in three separate house holds, I believe these three to be August’s eldest daughters, note the different but consistent spelling of their last names :
(1)SPUTE, Augusta, b.1853 - SWE	ds in hh/o M/M J.W. BREED
(2)SPUTE, Mary L., b.1856 - SWE	ds in hh/o M/M William B. & Phebe S. HAZELTINE
(3)SPUTE, Ida M., b.1858 - SWE	ds in hh/o M/M James C. & E.B. SAMPSON

My second listing is the 1880 census for Chautauqua County, however I don’t have a listing for Jamestown. The census taker invents a new spelling:
SPENT, Gust
SPENT, Mary S.
SPENT, Charles
SPENT, Christine
SPENT, Oscar
SPENT, Mary b.1878 - NY
This youngest daughter is probably the “Selma” (1877-1911) who is buried with parents in Mayville Cemetery.

John William SPUIT later changes the spelling of his last name to SPUTES, he married Hannah Catherine “Anna” CARLSON, b.1865, I believe Anna to be the daughter of Charles P. CARLSON of Jamestown because (1) age agrees (2) the family lives two doors away from where Ida M. his assumed sister is employed. They had three children, note their son’s spelling of his last name:
(1) SPUTE, Clarence William, b.1 Jan 1888 - Westfield , d.28 Jul 1957 - Westfield, married 24 Feb 1914 - Jamestown to Mary Mehitable “Heidi” MORTON, b.8 Aug 1886 - Driftwood, Cameron County, Pennsylvania, d.4 Sep 1974 - Lackawanna, Erie County, New York. Mary was the daughter of Edgar W. & Mary T. (MOYNIHAN) MORTON of Jamestown. Mary (MORTON) SPUTE was my grandmother’s niece.
(2) SPUTES, Alice Christina, b.11 Jan 1890 - Westfield, d.23 Jan 1974 - Cleveland, OH, un-married.
(3) SPUTES, Mary / Marie I., b.13 May 1894 - Westfield, d.25 Sep 1981 - Erie, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, married Lawrence J. HEIDER, b.1895, d.19 Jun 1934 - Westfield. John William, his wife, children, and their spouses are all buried in Westfield Cemetery, Westfield, Chautauqua County, New York.

Christine SPUIT, married Scott Israel VANGEISEN, b.1855 - PA,d. 1922, s/o Israel & Margaret (BREWER) VANGIESEN, their five children:
(1) Florence (1886-1929), w/o W. Henry RAYNOR (1885-1939)
(2) Clara (1887-1968), w/o John R. MORGANSTERN (1882-1964)
(3) Jay Scott (1891-1949), m.1923 to Sophie Dorothy KARNAT (1901-1966)
(4) Walter (1893-1956), 1w Ruella NEWMAN (1893-1920), 2w Vera CLAUS, 3w/3m.1949 Effidene CRANDALL (1897-1973)
(5) Lillian M.

Looking for information on James Pokasty, Jr. His last name is seen with many variations. He emigrated from Bohemia and spent his childhood in Quarry, Marshall, Iowa.
His parents were James and Mary Anna Pokasty. According to James Pokasta Sr.'s estate papers, James Pokasta Jr. was living in Libby Creek, Montana in 1905. We assume that Libby Creek, Montana and Libby, Montana are the same place. Is that correct? We have never found a death certificate on him or any information about a possible family. We have looked in the Montata census' and have never found him there. Any suggestions?

Barb
