Alfred Edwin Surdahl, 74, of Bozeman died Sunday, September 2, 2001 at the Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman as a result of a stroke.
He was a retired journeyman electrician for Service Electric, where he worked from 1965 to 1990.
Alfred was born in Big Timber on August 4, 1927, the son of Norwegian emigre Rolf and Bessie (Skillman) Surdahl.
After graduating from Mount Ellis Academy in 1947, he farmed and ranched with his father and brothers in Big Timber and Manhattan and served in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War. He attended Montana State College where in 1959 he received his degree in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts.
Alfred married Ferna May Allen on January 25, 1959 and was a member of the Bozeman Seventh-day Adventist Church actively where he served as teacher, treasurer, deacon and elder. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway Fjeldahl Lodge.
His parents, Rolf and Bessie, and brothers, John and Victor, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ferna of Bozeman; sons, Martin (spouse: Melody Sanderson) of Billings, Roger (Kari Kyle) of Denver, Colorado and Jerold (Cheri Albright) of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Della (Chris Herrmann) of Kettle Falls, Washington and Dora (Gary Aquino) of Torrington, Wyoming; brothers, Lars (Lorraine Ludeman) of Berrien Springs, Michigan and Henry (Lou Byers) of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Anna (Jim Dorgan) of Pendleton, Oregon and Alice (Normen Anderson) of Albion, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Eloise (Page) Surdahl of Three Forks and Dolores (Allaway) Surdahl of College Place, Washington; and 13 grandchildren, Maria, Mindy, Michael, Matthew, Moriah, Jennifer, Mellissa, Nicholas, Evelyn, Douglas, Tina, Timothy and Natasha.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at the Bozeman Seventh-day Adventist Church with interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
