Is it possible that this story could actually be a combination of more than one incident? I have researched this murder as described and located two stories.

The first fits the name but not the incident. Lt. Beaufort Swancutt murdered his Long Beach, CA girlfriend and several others on March 5, 1944. (Search for "Swancutt, murder" to read newspaper articles about the incident. This is one example: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1368&dat=19440708&... )

The other is a California murder involving a man by a different name, but otherwise fitting the description. Raymond “Rattlesnake James” Lisenba, also known as Robert S. James, stuck his pregnant wife's foot in a box containing two rattlesnakes. She didn't die from the bites, so he drowned her in the bathtub. This incident happened in 1935, but the murderer was executed in 1942. Here are two sites describing the murder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rattlesnake_James

http://murderrevisited.blogspot.com/

I realize this doesn't cover the description of the murderer being a chiropractor, but it is I all could find.

The children also were born in NY.

Levi married Elizabeth Sherman, Frederick married Sarah Jane Virgil and Scott married Elizabeth Bruner.
I'm hoping that someone in this family knows the FATHER OF WASHINGTON DUNN.
If I can find the name of the grandfather of these three boys. We may have this Dunn family back to 1752. Please contact me if you have a connection to this family.

Identity of Old School Building two miles north of Cottonwood Cemetery, north-east of Cozad

There is an old school building two miles north of Cottonwood Cemetery, on the east side of the road, in the middle of a farmstead.

The school my grandmother attended was just across the section line to north. This area is now a field, with some trees against the edge. I was hoping this building was originally my grandma's old school, but it's window and entrance formation doesn't match the photo I have from about 1920.

Does anyone one know the history of this building?

What happened to the Bethel Church building at Cottonwood Cemetery, north of Cozad?

After attending a recent burial at Cottonwood Cemetery, my Dad drove me past a farmstead two miles west of Cozad and pointed out a very long barn. He said he had been told that the north end of this barn is the old Bethel Church building that used to be on the east side of the Cottonwood (or Bethel) Cemetery. The area where the church used to stand is now part of the cemetery.

For anyone researching Cozad ancestors who came from Barren County, KY, this church was on the eastern edge of their settlement, and many attended there.

Does anyone know if any church records survived?

There were many renegade braves running around at that time who were part of the group under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. It is entirely possible that they traveled as far south as Nebraska. There also used to be pages in my family bible that had recorded the incident so...i do not believe that it would be made up if was in the family bible.

Meehan Family Album - Nebraska Pictures

Lost Family Album: Surnames include Meehan, Freeman, vonOhlen, Speese, Brown, Boswell, Handsor, Prisby. Locations primarily Nebraska, Illinois, Canada but several others included. Period mid-1800’s to 1960’s. Primary family names are Meehan (front half of album) and Boswell (back half of album). Both families are racially mixed but primarily African American/Canadian. Most pictures are of family members, but there are some landscapes in Nebraska such as the North Loup River.

The album itself is about 14” X 14” in size and has a dark brown cover – the word Maywood may be visible on the front. Many pictures are labeled on the back but most, if not all, have a small hand written label underneath the picture (on ruled school paper).

The album was in a briefcase that was checked on an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Chicago in 1973. The briefcase could not be found when the plane landed at O’Hara Airport. Several months after the trip, someone called my brother and said they were in Ohio and that they had picked up a briefcase by mistake when flying from Los Angeles. The person was asked to return the bag to American Airlines. Unfortunately, my brother did not get the caller’s name or any other identifying information. The briefcase was never returned.

Although many years have passed and several family members are no longer alive, I continue to search for the album and family treasures it contains. I would be grateful for the album, individual pictures or any leads that would help locate this item. If you believe you have seen the album or any of the pictures please contact me.

The attached picture taken in front of sod house in Dawson County. It is similar to those in lost album.

US Army Air Force PVT. Robert L. Looney - World War II MIA

I'm trying to find any information on the late Army Air Force PVT Robert L. Looney, or his family. PVT Looney was the radio operator on a C-87 military transport aircraft, when it disappeared on a flight between India and China, on April 9, 1943, over the "Hump". He and the other members of his crew were declared missing in action and presumed dead. On October 16, 2008, the wreckage of his aircraft was finally found in a remote, mountainous region of northeast India. I have been able to verify that his parents were the late William F. Looney and the late Thelma J. Marsh Looney. He was born about 1922 in Tennessee and was a graduate of the 1940 class of Lexington (Nebraska) High School, in Dawson County.

Gary Zaetz
Telephone: (919) 851-2242
email: garyngina@earthlink.net
All the kids were born between the 1874- 1895 time frame and the family orginally was from Sweden. I have exact dates for some.

Please let me know if a connection is made.

Gayle was killed in an auto accident in KS ca. 2005. She was not able to compile that book, though she had lots of information about those families. I've accumulated quite a bit of information too, particularly on the Rileys, Dorrances, and Ingles, if anyone is interested.
--Bill A.
I think that Plum Creek Pct. is the same as the current Lexington, NE. We had to change the name because Plum Creek was already taken.

Here is a link to the history of the town.

http://www.ci.lexington.ne.us/history.asp
