I have been researching my Carlson family for many years and still I have no information on my Great Grandfather's sister Alma or her name could be Caroline Carlson.
My Carlson family came to Fillmore County in or about 1880 from Burlington, Des Moines Co., Iowa. I have no record of Alma coming to Nebraska with the family. I have searched the Methodist Church records at Saronville located in Lincoln at the Westlyan University, I have searched the census reports both the federal for 1880 in both Des Moines Co, Iowa and Fillmore Co., Nebraska. I have also searched the Ong Methodist Church records last know to be located in Ong, Nebraska. I have searched all available cemetery listings online for Fillmore and Des Moines Co. I have scaned the cemetery listing at the Stockholm Swedish Lutheran Cemetery in Fillmore County and found nothing. I have a copy of a mortician's record from Fillmore County and she is not listed but many of my family members are.
The only two census reports that I found Alma in was the 1860 Federal Census for Des Moines Co. and her names was listed as Caroline age 2, and the 1870 Census again in Des Moines Co. she was listed but as Alma age 12. I have one picture of her and the name on the back of the picture is Alma Carlson. In the picture she looks to be in her mid to late teens making me believe that if she did indeed die in Iowa it would have been in or about 1874-1880 - She was born in 1858.
Her parents names were Andrew and Anna Carlson. Andrew is buried in an unmarked grave at the Stockholm Swedish Lutheran Cemetery between Ong and Shickley, NE. Andrew died in Shickley on Oct 31, 1904 and Anna left with her son David to live in Arizona and she died in 1918. John Carlson my great grandfather came to Nebraska after his parents and siblings as he was married to Augusta Burgeson and had 3 children before making the trip to Nebraska from Iowa, they had 12 children in all with 4 dying young.
Does anyone have a sugestion on how to search for Alma? No one in the family remembers anything about her. I have contacted the genealogical society in Burlington, Ia and had them do some research for me but they came up with nothing.
Thanks for any suggestion any one can give me.
