PIERCE — Fern L. Koehler, 80, of Pierce died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Prospect View Cemetery and the Rev. Gordon Bruce officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Stonacek Memorial Chapel.
She was born June 9, 1932, at Omaha to Martin and Louise (Kahny) Otto. She was baptized Sept. 1, 1932, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce, and confirmed April 14, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School and graduated from Pierce High School in 1950 and graduated from the Lutheran School of Nursing, St. Louis, Mo.
After graduation Fern worked at the courthouse in Pierce, grocery store, and then Dr. Dever’s office is where she found her calling. She married Dale L. Koehler Nov. 8, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce. They farmed in the Osmond and Pierce area. Fern was a nurse at Lutheran Community Hospital in Norfolk and Osmond General Hospital, Osmond. She retired in 1999.
Lodge and church affiliations include member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pierce, Sunday school teacher, church choir, American Cancer Society, Happy Hollow Extension Club, Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are one son, Bryan J. Koehler of Foster; three daughters, Lynette Koehler of Pierce, Holly Koehler of Pierce, Ann and husband Brian Biros of Mazon, Ill.; one grandchild, Nicole Biros.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents, Martin and Louise; and her brother, Bruce Otto.
Organist will be Dottie Ahlers with congregational hymns, “Heaven Is My Home,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Just As I Am.”
Casket bearers are Dean Koehler, Doug Koehler, Wayne Koehler, Leon Koehler, Michael Sorensen, Joel Sorensen.
