Seeking Descendants of Samuel Dustin and Mary Snider Lockwood

My 2nd great grandparents were Samuel Dustin Lockwood and Mary Snider Lockwood. Samuel was born 1 Feb 1817, died 18 Aug 1904 in Hubbell, Thayer, Nebraska. Mary was born 29 Oct 1827 in Ontario Canada, died 29 Jan 1900 in Hubbell, Thayer, Nebraska.

Samuel and Mary were married in Addington and Lexinton County, Ontario Canada, c. 1846. They had 8 children there, and after moving to the United States, specifically Belmont, Jackson, Minnesota, there they had their 9th and final child. Samuel's obituary states that he was born in Rensselaer County, New York. Other sources state he was born in Cayuga County, New York to Homer and Sarah Lockwood.

I would like to have Samuel's descendants verify who his parents were.

Hello Pat, I thought there was an outdoor record book with plastic covers on the pages but I've been to so many cemeteries that I might be mistaken. I think my memory is correct because I recall seeing multiple listings of names related to my husband Paul Willy.

My husband and I have decided to revisit all of our families graves in October when it cools off.

I was going through some old photos in an antique store 2- 3 months ago. There are about 10 - 20 that have names of the people written on the backs. After doing some minor research I learned they were all from Lee Co. in Ill. Some, from both families, later on moved to Neb.

My Great-Grandfather on my Mother's Fathers side (Dewey)was Howard Ashley Dewey, b. Sept. 18, 1872, and married Rose Kate "Kitty" Thayer b.1872, Springfield, Mass.d.1905, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Kate Thayer's father was HENRY C. THAYER, and was married to LAURA PRATT.

Also, I have in the THAYER line, RICHARD THAYER b.1655, d.1705, was married to REBECCA MYCALL, b. 1659, d.1732.

Their son was also named RICHARD THAYER, b.1625, d.1695. Married to DOROTHY PRAY, b.1634, d.1705.

They had a son also named RICHARD THAYER, b.1601, d.1664. Married to DOROTHY MORTIMER, b.1601, d.1641.

The end of my THAYER line so far is RICHARD THAYER, born about 1503,Thornbury, Gloucester,England, d. Feb. 11. 1562, in Thornbury,Gloucester,England. Married to CONSTANCE HOLBROOK, or HOLDBROOK, b.Thornbury,Gloucester,England, 1504, d.Mat 4, 1576, in Thornbury,Gloucester,England.

I have been contacted my the THAYER Foundation, and they helped me quite a bit, but I still have my own research and fact finding to do.

For anyone who stumbled across MY DEWEY line, I show my Great-Great Grandfather Henry Dewey's father as ABEL DEWEY, b.1773, being married to RHODA KING.

ABEL DEWEY'S parents were JOSEPH HORSFORD (not Dewey, which is strange, but maybe possible) and was married to EUNICE BEACH. That's ALL I have for this DEWEY line.

CYNTHIA'S parents were EPHRAIM HILL, b.1765, and wife's name was SARAH BRADFORD, b. March 15,1768 Williamsburg, Hampshire, MASS. and died Dec.28,1843.

In viewing your post, it is indeed a small world. I am related to Henrietta and John Harder. They are indeed buried in the Peace Lutheran Church cemetery in Deshler, NE. If you have any information on this family, I would appreciate it. I would help you with whatever I have also.

We may have something. My Fathers Grandmother was Wilhelmine Henryetta Harder, who married John Heinrich Bartels. She died in DESHLER, Nebraska on 12/4/1918. I show the birth as 9/26/1861.

My Great Grandmother was Nancy Jane James or Jennie who married Willis Lorenzo House. They lived at Belvidere, Thayer County, NE.
The article said the James outlaws had cousins in Jefferson, Thayer, Buffalo, Custer and Webster counties, all verified through census or genealogy records.
I have not been able to verify any relationship to any record.
It was always passed down that we were related but ???

Maybe I can help. Caroline Albertine Schnase and Johann Leo Naiman Sr. were married. Burried at Gladstone cemetery, Gilead, Thayer Co., NE (My ggg-grandparents).
Albertine Chrsitina Schnase and Caroline Albertine Schanse are sisters.
There parents were Johann Jacob Schnase and Fredricka Wilhelmina Arndt.
Charles and Albertine Christina Schnase were believed to be cousins that were married in Germany.
There was also an Uncle Charles Schnase that came to America with them. I believe He was Johann Schnase's brother or father's brother.

A restoration project will begin in Spring 2011 of the Mount Gilead / Sandy Knob / Gaston Family Cemetery, North of Gilead. I am looking for any history, information, pictures, etc. about the cemetery, school, land, burials, etc. I would appreciate any and all information you can share, even (perhaps especcially) those stories passed down by our ancestors. How nice to know you. Debi is a real trooper and a generous volunteer. I had no idea what I was asking when I posted a request on FindAGrave. She hit the road and found our long lost grandpa, Thomas Henry Edwards, in Maple Grove Cemetery,(KS).

I ordered microfilm from the KS HIS SOC for the Moran Herald. It came in yesterday at my local library. I'm going this afternoon to seach for TH Edwards'full obit. Will send it on as soon as I have it. I also have a request out for his Union soldier pension papers, but after 3 months nothing to report.

Debi Aaron copied the Edwards file at the Museum for me before Christmas. I have it. She also took wonderful photos of the Edwards graves in the area (most over in Republic County).

You might contact the Thayer County Historical Museum in Belvidere, Nebraska - they have the best genealogical records for the county. I get up that way every now and then, and I'd be more than happy to look in the family files to see if there is anything. I don't know about them having newspapers on microfilm, but I'll see what I can find.

I can't find any more information on this cemetary or the people buried there, but any Baruth buried there would almost surely be connected to my Baruths. They are no relation to me I just thought I could be helpful. I was only there for a few mintes but I did notice there is ALOT of Bartel in that cemetary.

As far as the church record I am not to sure about that. But I did see that you said they lived in Fredisau there is also a church there an there is a Peace Luthern Church in Deshler they are abot 4-5 miles apart.
