Michael P. Shea/O’Shea, Kerry, Ireland and Tilton, New Hampshire (Looney, O’Connor)

Michael son of Patrick O’Shea and Mary Fitzgerald was born in Goulane, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry, Ireland in 1876. He married Ellen Looney in Tilton, NH in 1908. The couple appear in the 1910 census in Tilton. He was listed as aged 31 and she (listed as Nellie) was 29, both born in Ireland and emigrated in 1897 and 1897 respectively. In 1930 Michael P a widower and son Patrick aged 19 are found in Northfield, NH (near Tilton). I did not find Michael in the 1920 census but a Patrick aged 9 is listed as a nephew in the home of John F. O’Connor and his wife Margaret Northfield, NH. John O’Connor and family emigrated from Cork to Boston in 1914 on the SS Andania bound for his brother in law Edward Looney, Tilton, NH. The Tilton directory for 1942 lists Michael and Patrick O’Shea at 25 Vine St. where they were living in 1930.

Any information would be welcomed.

I am searching for the Piper families who lived in Gilmanton, New Hampshire.
I understand that two brothers, Nathaniel and Thomas Piper lived in Gilmanton, NH. I have a Sarah Piper born about 1784 who may have been born in Gilmanton, NH but, did live there. She married Henry Plummer and as far as I know they died in this town. I have been trying to find the name of her parents and find out if Nathaniel and Thomas were related to her.
Any information of Sarah Piper would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully Yours,
Angie

WARD family New Hampton, NH 1700s & 1800s

I am looking for information on this WARD family. Jeremiah WARD was ordained pastor of the church there 1782, and died 1816. In the 1790 census he was listed: 2M 16+, 2M <16, 4 F.
I suspect his family included Jeremiah Jr (b ca 1769), John B (b ca 1775), Noah (b 1780-1784), & (I hope) Sally/Sarah. (dates from censuses).
Sally married John LEAVITT before 1792 and lived in Meredith, NH, where she was buried 1853, age 79. According to a son's death record, she was born in New Hampton, and she had a son Jeremiah W Leavitt, so I think it possible she was a daughter of Jeremiah WARD.
Any information, positive or negative, or suggestions appreciated!

David Blake And Phoebe Knowles--Meredith/Center Harbor

I am looking for information on David Blake (b. abt 1800, d. 1852, probably in Center Harbor) and his wife Phoebe Knowles (b. abt 1804, Center Harbor, d. 1886, Laconia?). They lived in Center Harbor and/or Meredith. I am looking for any information that can help me find their ancestors. David is often confused with another contemporaneous David Blake from Wolfeboro, and many trees that I have seen are polluted with misinformation from this confusion, but both of them are clearly shown with different families in the 1850 census.

They had daughters Almira (abt 1830-1862), Almatia (1831-1892, married to John Smith), Almeda (1837-1896, my direct ancestor, married to Ernest William Gourd), and Arvilla (abt 1839-1860). The daughters are often confused because of their similar names. There are also many other females with some of these same names around the same time, I guess they were trendy names around this time. There was also a son David (1833-1901), married to Sarah Weeks.

David and Phoebe are buried in Meredith Village cemetery, along with many of their children. I have seen their gravestones and also gotten an informational printout from the cemetery sexton. I have found several deeds to and from them in Belknap County and I have copies of them, but they have not shed much light on their families. There was a conveyance to a Jesse A. Blake and I have not been able to determine his relationship. David Blake's estate was opened in 1852, and I have looked at the records, but I did not make copies. I did see in the estate that a guardianship was established for two of David's daughters in 1857 with Daniel Blake as the guardian (curious because mother Phoebe was still alive?) and I do not know Daniel Blake's relationship either.

Though I made one trip up to Belknap County a while back to get some info, I am in Texas and unable to get up there too often.

Looking for help with the Aaron Clark family of Alton. I have tracked them form 1830 to 1910. Aaron and wife Mercy Ham had 8 children living with them in 1830. Although the 20 years old could of been a sister to one of them. I know three of the children were James Luther Clark, who went to Oshkosh, Winnebago, Wisconsin, Sarah Rines living with them in 1850 and Hiram, whom Aaron and Mercy lived with all their lives. Mercy dies between 1850 and 1860. Hiram and new bride, Sarah live with Aaron from 1860 to 1880. Aaron is 86 in 1880 and dies after 1880. Hiram and Sarah have only one child, Alma who married 1880 and 1900 to a Hinkah? H. Bennett, Sarah is living with them. Between 1900 and 1910 both Alma and Hinkah Bennett are dead. Sarah and a sister Marye Tetheley are living together. These people never leave Alton. Please help with death dates and marriage dates.

I have a will dated 1831, of Ruben MITCHELL, Wayne Co. NC. He has been my brick wall.
In this will he mentions property brought from Gilford. We have a county named Guilford, in NC. I followed that lead to no avail.
It looks as if he came to NC in the late 1700's, from Gilford?
There is mention in Rev War Papers, MA and NC.
Can someone give me a little backgroung on Gilford, and
maybe a tie in with MA.
Thanks
K Mitchell

In the late 1800s, one Russell B Baker migrated backward, going from Knox County, OH, to Middlesex Co, Massachusetts. He married there and had a family of 6 children. He died, between 1920-1930, probably in Lowell, MA. Two of his sons, Harold Arthur Baker (26 Dec 1895, MA - Feb 1984, Laconia, NH) and Russell Leroy Baker (Sep 1892, MA - 13 Jan 1953, Laconia, NH) left MA before 1922 to start a mill remnants business in Laconia.

Russell married a Marie [UNKNOWN LN], b about 1898 in NH, sometime before 1922. Marie either died or they were divorced before 1933, when he is single, according to the city directory. No mention of children anywhere. I'm looking for (1) marriage date, (2) her maiden name, (3) children (if any) and (4) her death date and burial place OR (4) date of divorce.

Harold Arthur married an Elizabeth [UNKNOWN LN] between 1952-1955, probably in Laconia. They had no children. I'm looking for Elizabeth's maiden name, birth and death dates, and the date of their marriage.

Any assistance greatly appreciated!
There is a John Flanders in the 1830 census in Gilmanton, with a wife and one small male child. Does anyone have any information on this family? John, his wife, and their two children moved to New Brunswick, Canada in 1836, although he started preaching here as early as 1831. Mary McNeal had six children in the Madbury area by her first husband, James McNeal, when she married in 1825. Any information much appreciated.

Could they also be the parents of Olive BATCHELDER b. 1794 who married John Hanson 1819? She died 1824 and is buried in Bean Cemetery, Center Harbor, NH. Also, there is a Mahala BATCHELDER b. 1806 who also married John HANSON c 1825 who could also be a daughter of Benjamin. Believe Benjamin died in Center Harbor, or Sandwich. Date unknown and burial place unknown. John HANSON and Mahala removed to VT about 1826.
Caroline Gilbert (Gonthier-Gauthier)

Am looking for my gg grandmother Caroline Gilbert. She was married to Joseph Gilbert (Jalbert). I know where he is buried, but the church has no record of her being there. The state has no death record either. I have been told by a relative (has now passed on) that she was 17 when she died. That made the year 1934. But, I just can't seem to find her anywhere. Is there anyone that can help?
Thank you very much for any help.
Joyce

e-mail: polar@metrocast.net

Family Chart of Theophilus Swain

In a 1930 issue of an old DAR magazine I have found a copy of a Family Chart of Theophilus and Elizabeth Swain. The dates on it are in the 1700s. They lived in Germantown, New Hampshire. I am in Indiana and am not familiar with New Hampshire or the counties. This chart might be helpful to someone. Could someone e-mail me and let me know what county Germantown is ( or was) in? Since this chart is of no use to me, I would like to send it to someone who would like to have it.
