just a follow-up. I read all the papers from June 12,1979 to June 20. I even checked the females listed for maiden names. Of about 100 obits there are no Levack's listed. I am suggesting that you have been given flawed data. Recheck the year, state, name spelling, etc.

Hi Erin
I just checked our online obit index and come up with nobody named Levack. What I can do is go to the library and read the Laconia Citizen for that week, on microfilm and see if anything pops up.

Hi there,

I have just located some family members buried in Union Cemetery in in Laconia, NH. The odd thing is that three of them are listed as being buried the same day - June 12, 1979.
This makes me think that there must have been some sort of accident.
I have searched, but not come up with much except a Plane Crash in Dalton, NH on 6/3/1979. I would think that this would have at least been mentioned in a paper, but have no idea where to look for Obituaries or Newpaper articles from that time.
The names I am looking for are Charles, Ada, and Susan Levack.

Any suggestions welcomed!

Erin
I have found a picture of a woman named "Cousin" Emma Gordon. It was taken by Elsam Photo in Laconia, NH. I believe she was related to one of these three people based on the box I found it in: Martha Smith b.1828(m.Wm(?) Russell), Hannah Calley Smith b 1828 married to James Smith b 1830. Martha lived in New Hampton, NH for a while and Hannah and James were married in New Hampton, NH. I don't know who any of their parents are, but I do know their descendants. It's a beautiful picture and I'd love to find her family for her. Thank you. I will try and get the photo scanned soon.

Anything is possible. My reference was "Meredith NH annals and genealogies" by Hannaford (pg 243). Just says he married Abigail Chase. I also saw the Mehitable name (LDS film #09627799). That was a handwritten document with little or no references.
My line goes from Lt John Hawkins to son John Hawkins (m. Lydia Smith). I would love to trade info/lines/references. If you are aggreable, contact me at pfernald1@ec.rr.com.

He is listed as a Fireman on the staff in the 1940 U.S. Census for the school. He was born in Canada in 1881.

Help

Thanks Simon

I have traced James E. Kendall's family all the way down and there is only one living surving Kendall from this line and his name is Stanley E. Kendall and he is in his 80's and knows nothing of the Kendall family history. I am now ready to go back in time to Eva Belle Kendall's father, Charles W. Kendall born about 1833. According to Charles's and Annie's marriage record, they were married on October 14, 1871 in Medford, MA. His parents are listed as Edward & Mary. Charles lived in Boston and was a painter and was born in NH. I don't have a death record nor a birth record for Charles nor anything about his parents. If you could help point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative.

Ebenezer BECK, born about 1804 in New Durham, NH, married in Farmington, NH, 2 Sept 1821 to Thirza HOLMES, daughter of Samuel Holmes and Betsey Reed. Thirza HOLMES BECK was born 8 Jan 1804 Farmington, NH, and died 7 Feb 1882 in Gilmanton, Belknap Co., NH. Some of the family lived in the Gilmanton area from about 1844 until at least 1882. There were several children but only three are so far identified: (1) Manasah Holmes Beck, b. 5 Mar 1823 Farmington, NH, marr. 10 Oct 1843 Jefferson, NH, to Harriet B. Wentworth, d. 27 Dec 1907 Concord, NH, buried South Cem, Gilmanton, NH; (2) Fannie E. Beck, b. 1833 NH, marr. Jacob R. Gordon, d. Gilmanton, NH, 10 Jan 1908; (3) John S. Beck, b. 23 Aug 1843 Jefferson,Coos, NH, married Piermont, NH, 15 Sept 1864 to Julia M. Hill of Canada East, and d. 8 Feb 1923 Gilmanton, buried Smith Meeting House Cemetery. Seeking any information on this family. Does anyone have cemetery records for the Gilmanton area? Were Eben and Thirza Beck buried in South Cemetery or another Gilmanton cemetery? Any help appreciated.
His wife's name was Anne and he had at least one son and at least three daughters. One of the daughters was named Sally and she married Enoch Bunker.
Hi Rick, Do not confuse the Laconia State School with the Belknap County Farm. They are two separate entities, one a county institution and the a state institution.

I transcribed the State School cemetery on Chemung Rd. and posted it on interment.net The county also has a cemetery for those who died there and the bodies not claimed by a family. I transcribed 42 of them, but there are more. Those are listed on findagrave. You have to do a cemetery search for county in NH, Belknap.

I did not find a Fowler in either one

Janis, I hope you get this. We have communicated before about the Marsh family. I am interested now in your Young connections. My g-g-grandparents were Isaac Ellis and Martha Young. Martha was the granddaughter of Moses Young and Dorothy Peavey. I have found 6 children for Moses, but no Elizabeth. The same is true for Jonathan Young and Alice Peavey, brother and sister of Moses and Dorothy (Alice was too young to be Elizabeth's mom). If you can keep this straight, Jonathan and Alice were parents of Isaac Ellis's first wife Adaline Young. After Jonathan and Dorothy died, Moses and Alice married. Have you learned anything new since writing your message?

Dateline 2012:

It's been five(5) years since last message. Anyway, IF I didn't tell you before, this Mercy Fowler is another relative other than the one I am looking for. My Grandmother Mercy was born in May 1896 to Edward E. & Lucy Fowler. Edward Everett Fowler was born in April 1868 in New Hampshire, I believe Seabrook.

Mercy's children were all born in Seabrook; George R.(1916), Charles A.(1918) and Lewis W.(1919). The 1930 Census for Laconia has George & Louis(their spelling not mine) at the Laconia State School. The boys are listed after one an other with their ages being(in error) listed as 11 for each.

Has anyone listed the names of the inmates buried in the School's Cemetery? Has any records be found with the inmates arrival and release dates?

Hope this voice/message from the past finds you well. You ever get that headgasket fixed on the VW Rabbit Diesel?

Rick Knox
(nee: David Fowler)

I cannot find a listing with an address and phone numbers for the 2 Saint Lambert(s) Cemeteries located in Laconia, NH. I tried Google, 411.com, and Switchboard.com with zero success.

Is there someone in Laconia that will look in the phone directory and send me the listings for those 2 cemeteries ?

Thanks, Bettye bettye31@comcast.net

You can find a description on page 750. Describes it as follows; "rises near the Suncook Pond, and flows north through a deep and rapidly descending valley-bottom to the lake, and is called Miles River, or Leavitt's Brook, taking its name from two men by the name of Leavitt, Miles and Samuel, who had mills on it. It drains the eastern side of Mount Major and Gunstock and the western side of Mount Prospect."
I can't find it named on any map that I have, for either name, but I have a book "The Old Maps of Belknap County, N.H. in 1892" and on the map of Gilford it shows a river or stream that could be the one, from the above description. Hope this helps somewhat.

I know Belknap was formed from parts of Merrimack and Strafford in 1840. Which county was Barnstead in prior to 1840? I'm looking for Watson family property records and need to know where to look.

Thanks!

The "History of Merrimack and Belknap Counties, New Hampshire" makes several references to the Miles River and the Miles River Valley, but I can't seem to find it on any map or on google.

I assume that maybe the name changed, but to what? I haven't been able to find a history of it or the Gunstock River.

Any help appreciated.
