Hi Shirley,
I have wondered where this Eldad Evans fit into the family. Do you have the names of all of his children? I ask because by looking at the naming patterns of the children of my ancestor Columbus Evans, there is a strong suggestion that he was a son of Uriel.
Our family had always been told Columbus was a brother to Gilman Evans---which would have made Uriel his grandfather, and Talmon his father at age 16/17. But some of the evidence I have found makes this appear unlikely, such as his absence from his father's household in the early census.
No where is his relationship to anyone mentioned, but Columbus Evans was clearly from Hinsdale. I have not seen any Hinsdale church records, only vital records and probate records. (I am now accessing land records as well). Based on the will of our common ancestor John Evans, it is apparent that he had at least one son whose birth was not recorded by the Hinsdale town clerk. (Or, the records did not survive). He had a son named Charles per his will. On the Fisher side of my family (Mrs. Columbus Evans), there are similarly children whose birth records cannot be found. This past November I learned the parentage of this Mrs. Evans (Friendly Fisher) through her father's 1848 will now located in Concord.
I am happy to share information. I have a public family tree on ancestry.com called Evans/Evens of Hinsdale. Hopefully you can access it. It is not finished but there is a lot there. Your Lydia and Chloe seem to fit well with Medad---they would have been named for their grandmothers.
I don't live anywhere near New Hampshire anymore, but hope to have a day or two in the area this summer.
