Josephine Mallonee, death date needed

I am looking for the death date for Mary Josephine Mallonee. She went by Josephine rather than Mary. She was born 1893 in Stockton, Chautauqua County, NY. We believe she died about 1951 or 1952. She was living in Alstead Center, NH at the time she died. She lived with an older woman there. The family members who could answer our questions about Josephine, her date of death, place of burial of her cremated remains, and the name of the lady Josephine lived with are all deceased

I called the Alstead Clerk’s office and a lady was most helpful. She couldn’t find a record of death for Josephine Mallonee in 1951 or 1952. She suggested contacting the clerks’ offices in Rockingham, VT or Langdon, NH for a death record, in case she died at a hospital in either of those towns.

Does anyone know what local mortuary might have handled a cremation and burial for a person in Alstead in 1951 or 1952? I am looking for any record of her death or maybe an obituary. We need to find the date in order to obtain a death certificate. And we would love to find if Josephine’s remains are in a local cemetery.

I am not familiar with NH research so any suggestions or information about where to search would be greatly appreciated.

Sheryl McNeely Shaw
I'm trying to find the probate file of Giles Marvin (1751 Lyme CT - 1801 Alstead) which is indexed on FHL film #2,230,625 as "#47."

FHL has the probate files on 225 films. However, the files are shown with letter codes as well as #s: a whole series of Axx - Axx, then Bs, then Cs. The letter series each seem to cover early to late probates. (He's not "A47.")

So I don't have to pull many films, some of which have to be ordered from the vault, can someone tell if there's another index to these. I've found files before, but must have had the letter code from another source.

Thanks, Pat

He should have been of Alstead then.

Also, seeking any information on wife Lucy Barron's death or whereabouts after his death. Surry history says she died in Alstead (no year); one unsourced RootsWeb says d. 1826 in Bethany, NY.

Thanks, Pat

Isaac Davis, Jr would be the father and Fanny ? possibly the mother. Isaac Davis, Jr was the son of Captain Isaac Davis and served in the American Revol. in a NH regiment. I am told he signed up in Walpole, NH. Isaac Davis Jr. later moved to New York, Niagara County, where he successfully entered a court case to gain his military pension and land rights.

Father's name Charles and his occupation was a boot maker. John was convicted at Nether Knutsford on the 27/1/1848 to 7 yrs transportation for shop breaking & stealing. I know that he had 2 previous convictions. He may have come from Church Lawton or Wheelock in Cheshire.

I would like to know his previous convictions as that may give more detail as to where he was born.

I would appreciate any help that you can give.

Cheers
Marg
Am trying to determine the connection (if any) of my ancestor, Columbus Evans, b. c. 1796 in NH, to the large Evans family of Hinsdale, Cheshire Co. NH.

John Evans and Lydia Doolittle's 16 children included Asher, Ore, Jeri, Asa, Henry, Eldad, Windwell, Medad, Urial, John, Lydia, Elzi, John, Phila, Silvanus and Ethni. Both Eldad and Urial removed to Jefferson County NY, also the eventual home of Columbus.

Any leads appreciated!

Used is ok.

Also: Would enjoy hearing from any descendants of Solomon
CLARK and Jemima Carruth. I am a direct descendant of
their son William born in 1799 and Salome Hastings. They
relocated to Dickinson, New York in 1822.

I am looking for someone who can help me find a marriage of Isaac Davis Jr. to a Fanny ? in New Hampshire or a birth of Joel Holmes Davis in the Cheshire, NH area.

Samuel Willard, a Revolutionary War Veteran, married Molly Stearns at Harvard, Mass. 27 Aug. 1771. He served from Ashburnham, Mass. where they resided. He died at Westmoreland, Cheshire County, 1779. His widow, Molly (Stearns) Willard, married Joshua Warner in 1781. Joshua Warner died in 1813. Molly later resided at Landgrove, Vermont, where she applied for, and was granted, a Revolutionary War widow's pension based on Samuel Willard's service. I think Samuel Willard and Molly had children, but I can find nothing to support my thinking. I will truly appreciate any thoughts, or advise for research. Thanks.
Jack
Requesting copies of obituaries for burials in Keene, NH 1933

Hi, I have obtained info from the Dept of Recreation and Cemetaries in Keene, NH, and would now like to get copies of the obituaries from the Keene newspaper for the following family members:

Looking for burial info on Frank Eno and wife, Matilda Langevin Guilbert Eno.
Frank died October 06, 1933, in Lowell, MA, buried in Keene, NH but don't know cemetary name) Matilda, maiden name Langevin, first husband was Joseph D. Gilbert/Guilbert, married 2nd time to Frank Eno....i think
she died Nov 18, 1933, but could be wrong on her exact date of death.
Requesting any info on the burial info on both for genealogical
purposes. Matilda was married to my great great grandfather, Joseph D.
Gilbert. Thanks for all your help!

Reply rec'd from Dept of Recreation and cemetaries in Keene, NH:
I have found in our records a listing for Frank Eno, buried August 8,
1933, Matilda Eno, buried November 18, 1933 and Francis Eno, buried
1911. All three are in the Frank Eno lot, Section 12 Lot 442, Woodland
NED Cemetery, Keene.
You might also want to check with the Keene Sentinel (603-352-1234) to
see if they have obituaries for these folks.

Anyone with access to the newspapers in these areas would be greatly appreciated if you could look for me. Thanks!

There is a Belding line from Samuel Belding, from Straffordshire, England who settled in Wethersfield, Conn. Two of his sons, Samuel and David, were in the 1st group of settlers of Swanzey.

If you have a connection to this line and would like the info please contact me.

Am looking for any info regarding Steward / Stewart families in Cheshire County ~1780-1810.

I am specifically interested in Jonas Stewart/Stuart of Claremont. The 1790 census shows a name of Jonas Steward. The 1800 and 1810 Cheshire County Census show several Stewards (e.g. Jacob, Joseph, John, Jos., etc.) but no Stewarts, and Jonas disappears as well.

This is a new breakthrough for me so I have very little info, except that Jonas Stuart is listed as the father of Alphonso C. Stuart, Dartmouth 1809 Alum. Alphonso's Dartmouth bio indicates he was born in Claremont Mar. 13, 1786. No information regarding wives, brothers / sisters, etc.

John was living in Gardner MA area on the border with New Hampshire and in fact some of his children move to New Hampshire. I have exhausted a search for Bridget Burke's death record and burial in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Archives have done searches and I was wondering what does New Hampshire offer for searches of death records. Can I write somewhere in the Vital Records office and have them do a search? Or would I need to have someone to go to Concord for the search?
Thanks for your help,
Cheryl

Homestead in One Family since 1787

Westmoreland Boy Lives on Farm Where Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Lived and Died.

Special in The Reformer

Keene, N.H. March 5 (about 1920)

Glenn C. Wellington, 9, of Westmoreland has a distinction which probably no other boy in New England shares, living on the place where his great-great-great-grandfather lived and died. Not only this, but his father, grandmother, great-grandfather, John Albee, and his great-great-grandfather, Ichabod Albee, also lived on the place. All are buried in Westmoreland.

The Albee homestead was settled in 1787 and since that time has always been in the family. The old stone furnace built when the first Albee homestead was erected, a log cabin, is still standing. The only window in the cabin had four lights of glass, measuring five by seven inches, in front of a shoemaker’s bench in the olden days.

There is still standing on the place a small building which was used before 1800 for a schoolhouse. The attic of the building was used by the teacher to hide the children when she heard the Indians coming and the trapdoor and ladder used to get to the loft and always in readiness to escape the redskins is still preserved.

The land on which these old buildings stand is now owned by Mrs. Mary I. Cole, a descendant of the Albee family, and Dr. George Albee of Worcester, Mass.

I'm researching Benjamin Ellis (b.29 Dec 1762-63 in Richmond, Cheshire Co., NH) and his wife, Ruth Ingalls (b. 03 Feb1767 in Richmond). They were married in Richmond 24 Nov 1785. Their children are: Martin, Benjamin, Silas (b. circa 1792 in NY), Rufus (b.1787 in Richmond), Henry (b. 1786 in Richmond), Rebecca, Sibyl, Sabra, and Diana (b. 1807 in NY).

Silas married Eleanor Dickerson 16 Jan 1817 in Washington Co., OH and Diana married Stinson Burris 24 Dec 1829 in Washington Co., OH.

I have census info. on Silas and Diana's families, but I have very little info on their siblings and parents. Did everyone move from NH to NY? How many siblings moved to OH? Who did they marry? What are the death dates for Benjamin and Ruth and where are they buried?

Benjamin's parents are John Ellis and Mary Martin. Ruth's parents are Henry Ingalls and Sybil Carpenter.

I am hoping that there is a Cheshire County History that mentions these names.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.

William Ruffle / Abigail Tufts / Another Woman

I'm hoping someone might be able to help with what is a mystery to me.

Quite a lot of the postings online show that William Ruffle (born in England around 1799) and Abigail Tufts (born in Keene 1804) were married in Keene on 10 April 1822, which is what I thought to be true for a long time. Now, checking Keene's records, it appears that Abigail was married in Keene on this day, but to Joseph Harwood. She did marry William, but much later on 10 Mar 1842.

The problem I have is now locating the mother of William's oldest son, William (b. about 1827 in Keene) since it couldn't have been Abigail. William Jr. shows up on the 1850 US census, but the mother is simply listed as "Mrs. W." Her listed age is about right to have been Abigail (around 1804), but it couldn't have been her if she was married to Joseph Harwood...

All subsequent searches in the Keene records turn up nothing for the elder William. I'm assuming he didn't marry in Keene the first time, although all of his children appear to have been born there. The 1850 census lists 12 children living with these parents:
William, Charles, Samuel, George, Sally, Mary, Benjamin, Isabella, Henrietta, Josiah, Harriet, and James.

Can anyone help me find out who young William's mother was or where else I might search?

Thanks!

Gale

She was either buried in the Westport, NH cemetery on the old road headed to West Swanzey or in the Oak Hill Cemetery in West Swanzey on the dump road.

Any help to find this information would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon,
Has anyone untangled the group of Cuttings in Cheshire & Sullivan Counties, NH? I am interested in the possible children of Revolutionary War veteran, Benjamin Cutting in Croyden.

My ancestress, Nancy Cutting born circa 1779 married Obed Lamberton before 1800 in Cheshire County. They had moved to Windsor Co, Vermont by 1820 where there were other Cuttings in residence, namely a Jonas and Sewell Cutting.

Obed Lamberton's father was Revolutionary War veteran, Obed Lamberton Sr. who is buried in Claremont, NH. In the census he was listed in Plainfield, New Grantham and Claremont Twp's. Benjamin Cutting is a possible candidate for Nancy's father as he was near the Lamberton's in nearby Croyden and had a daughter in the 1790 census missing in the 1800 census when Nancy was listed in Obed Jr's household.

I would appreciate any information on the Cuttings in NH and VT!
Moses MARSH (1743-1819) of Braintree, MA; Chesterfield, NH; Rockingham, VT

I'm hoping to determine when Moses and Jerusha Owen MARSH moved to Chesterfield, NH.

Moses MARSH was born 6 Jan 1743 in Braintree, MA to Moses MARSH and Sarah CROSBY. He married Jerusha OWEN in Braintree, MA on 19 Apr 1764. They had two children in Braintree, MA prior to leaving.

The last children that were baptized in Braintree, MA were in 1766. That suggests to me that he moved to Chesterfield somewhere between 1766 and 1779.

It is possible he lived briefly in Lunenberg, MA around 1774, but I'm still working on verifying or rejecting that possibility.

I believe based on Rockingham, VT land records that he moved from Chesterfield, NH about 30 miles north to Rockingham, VT in 1779.

Any help with Chesterfield land info would be greatly appreciated, either documented facts, or suggested resources.

Rob Thomas (in southern CA)
rthomasma@yahoo.com

His wife's name was Sally, but I've been unable to determine her maiden name or where they were married although they must have been md. in N.H. It could have been in Gilsum or an nearby town.

Their first child (Sophia) was b. in 1796, so the marriage would be ca. 1793-1796 and may not be in Gilsum.

Samuel and Sally BLISS moved to Montgomery Co., NY shortly after 1800 and then to Scioto Co., OH.

Does NH have town vital records like MA does? If so, does anyone have access to these records and could check them (or the Gilsum church records) for the marriage?

The BLISS family moved to NH from CT.

Young families - circa 1800

According to the 1790, 1800, 1810, and 1820 census there were several Young families living in Wendell, Cheshire, NH.

I am interested in the families of Robert Young and Abiather (Abeatha, Abitha) Young. I believe Robert Young may have had a son Abiather born about 1801 who later moved to Meigs County, OH.

My gggg-grandmother's (Chloe Mariah Sisson Case Young Mathews) 2nd husband was Robert Young (trying to connect him to the NH Youngs). They were married in Meigs County, OH. The only information I have on him is that they were married in 1831 and he died prior to 1838, as she married her 3rd husband in August 1838. Chloe was born in 1801 - her first husand was 14 years her senior, and her 3rd husband was 25+ years her senior, so it is possible that her 2nd husband was also many years her senior (35 or more?).

At one point I ran across a notation on a Robert Young that served in the Rev. War and recieved land in OH.... unfortunately, I did not accurately record the source.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeking information on Ephraim Reed, b. Hinsdale, Cheshire County, NH, on 9 Feb 1765. He left his home 1 Apr 1777 to join Capt. John Scott's Co. of Col. Ellis' regiment at Mt. Independence. He married at least twice, I believe. The second wife is named Rebecca. His children named in his will are Scammel Reed; Thomas Reed; Nancy Ann Reed, wife of Benjamin McDaniel; Lawson Reed; Albert Reed; Nancy Ann Reed, wife of Orin Butterfield; Sally Thurber, wife of Collins Thurber; George Henry Reed; Charles Arthur Reed; Vincent L. Reed; Louisa Reed; and Peddy Allen, wife of Clark Allen. Ephraim died in 1842 in Jefferson County, NY. I am looking for information about his parents, siblings, wives, children, and anything else that pertains to him. Any help will be appreciated.

Covey in Chesterfield

Still trying to make connections between Samuel COVEY, Loyalist, of Fort Ann, NY who went to Alburgh, VT/Caldwell's Manor, Quebec and Joseph COVEY of Chesterfield, NH and later Windham Co, VT. Joseph's wife was Theodosia HOOKER.

Joseph COVEY b. c1750 was of Chesterfield, NH in the early 1770's. There was a record in Chesterfield that shows Samuel and Mary COVEY had a son Samuel Jr, in 1773.

My Samuel COVEY who d. Alburgh, VT in 1822, had his eldest son, Samuel Jr, c1772. It is most certain that Sam Jr's mother was not Sam Sr's last wife, Susanna, who died in 1821. She was still having children in 1815. It is most certain that Samuel Sr was married at least twice, but no one knows his first wife's name -- could the above named Mary be that wife? Either his 1st wife of his 2nd one was a YARNES/YEARNS...

Perhaps Samuel and Joseph both lived in Chesterfield at one time, or Sam was visiting his brother, Joseph? We know Sam Sr was in Fort Anne about 1777 when he followed British troops into Quebec. Old Fort Anne is roughly 100 miles from Chesterfield.

Do any of you Joseph COVEY & Theodosia HOOKER researchers have additional info on him while in Chesterfield, NH? Chesterfield is about 30 miles south of where he ended up settling in Acton, Windham Co., VT
