Judy - I am not sure if I am on the right track, but my father's birth certificate ( born Sydney, Australia 1926) has an American, John Joseph Corbett listed as his father. The occupation on the birth certificate is "ship's engineer". My grandmother was Alice Alexandra Corbett ( nee Glover).
