Hi Topaz. Although I cannot find any official records of the births of Stephen & Sarah (Hadley) Smith's children, I do believe your ancestor, Jehiel Smith is brother to my 3rd great grandmother, Lydia H. (Smith) Fisher. I do have Sarah Hadley's ancestral line, but am still looking for the parent's of Stephen Smith, b. abt 1779/80. Because there were several Stephen Smiths in the Bath, NH & across the state line into nearby VT towns, there is much confusion. Several people have erroneously mixed up Stephen Smith, b 1787, the son of Stephen Smith(b.1749) & Dorcas Way, BUT that guy married Mary (Polly) Lang, and that is very well documented. I believe our Stephen Smith is the son of Joseph (b 1733/34) & Naomi Smith, whose family is not well documented. Joseph & Stephen are brothers, sons of Samuel & Margaret (Lee) Smith. I have a copy of a deed of land sold by a Stephen Smith (don't know which of those in Bath at the time) to Joseph Smith, Jr (Joseph Smith, Sr died in 1800), which carries the name of Jehiel Smith as a witness to the transaction dated 10 Dec 1816. Maybe you have additional proof of his living there. What are you using to prove Jeheil's birth date. I am going to Salt Lake City to do research in a couple of weeks. If there is anything you think I should check out, please let me know ASAP. I've looked at your tree with all the info you posted on Jehiel, and also at the Find A Grave memorial. Hope to hear from you. Jean
