Surnames: Nickerson, Kidder, Stiles
Hello. I was just doing a search in the "archives" of the "Manchester Union Leader" for the KIDDER name. One of the first things to show up was a recent obituary:
Published on April 20, 2009, Article 1 of 553 found.
Wendy L. Nickson
Publication: New Hampshire Union Leader (Manchester, NH)
Page Number: 06
TROY -- Wendy L. Nickson, 50, of Woodland Park, died April 14, 2009, at Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Peterborough, July 23, 1958, to Sulo E. "Sonny" and Caroline N. (LaFreniere) Kolapakka. She lived in New Ipswich most of her life and moved to Troy 18 months ago.
She was owner and operator of the former Kidder's Restaurant of New Ipswich. She had also worked at various grocery stores in the area.
(I can't get the rest of the obituary without paying a small fee.)
BUT, I've been researching KIDDER for 15+ years, and the families in New Ipswich and Temple, NH. And, this is the first time I've seen mention of a "Kidder's Restaurant" in New Ipswich. Does anyone have information about it?
For the family and friends of Wendy, I'm sorry for your loss.
By the way, my Joseph and Rebecca (CHAMBERLAIN) KIDDER moved their large family to Temple, NH. They had 3 sons and 6 daughters, and there is not enough information on them. One of the mysteries involves their middle son, Joseph, Jr. He reportedly fought in the Rev. War as a young teen. But no one knew whether he became an adult. But, a member of the Temple Historical Society just told me that Joseph, Sr., and Joseph, Jr., ran a tavern in that town. I had never read that before, either. Does anyone know about the "KIDDER Tavern" in Temple?
Adding to the mystery is that the "vital records" show a 1795 marriage between Joseph KIDDER, Jr., and "Mrs. Hulda (?) STILES. But I'm told another record shows a Joseph KIDDER marrying a "Miss" Hulda STILES, dau. of Asa. Joseph Jr.'s cousin, Joseph KIDDER, from Westford, MA, had moved to Temple. So, for a long time, no one knew which Joseph married into the STILES family. (Were there 2 marriages?)
