Looking for the burial site of my g grandfather Edward H. Clough. He lived in 1900 in New London, NH and died in 1901 so I am assuming that he is buried somewhere in or around New London. My g grandmother, Lizzy Miller Clough may also be buried there. She lived with my grandfather in Londonderry, NH after her husband died but I would think that she would be buried with him. Can anyone tell me what cemeteries are near and where to get info on burials?

Ignace Daneau dit LaPlante--poss. Merrimack County

Looking for any help in locating information on Ignace LaPlante from the Saint Francois du Lac, Quebec, Canada area around the 1850's and before. He married Marie/Mary Morissette and they had at least one son, Pierre (Peter) LaPlante born 4 July 1853.

Peters' obituary says that as a young man his family moved to New Hampshire where he married Florence Verville (also from St. Francois du Lac) on 27 Jan 1873. Peter and family moved into Nebraska for some years and then to Minnesota (New Ulm area).

I've not been able to locate any records in New Hampshire on this family nor have I been able to find them on any census thus far. Would love to find other children of Ignace and Marie/Mary and burial places. Surely there are other descendants of this couple??????

Any help appreciated. Thanks!
Colby's of Hill, New Hampshire-photographs

Over a year ago I discovered a photo album in a shop in Des Moines, Iowa. The owner allowed me to take some quick pictures of the cabinet cards in the album to see if I could find any family that wanted the album. I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot I had these pictures, and found them while cleaning my hard drive. There are several; but here are a few: Willard Burr; Hattie Colby Burr; Bertha Colby; Evelyn Longdin as a child at Glen Echo Lake, Stoughton, Mass; Evelyn and Dorothy Longdin as children in 1927 with Grandpa Colby; Handel Frank Colby and Wm. Wyatt; Aunt Hattie in front of home in Hill, N.H.; and a note that Henry Foehlinger was a half brother to the owner of the album. If you would like copies of these pictures, please contact me, and I can also supply several other pictures in this album. I have no idea whether the album is still in the shop in Des Moines, but if anyone is interested, I can attempt to find out.

Samuel Smith b.1732 in Scotland, lived in Dunbarton, NH

Hi, I am writing from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. How's the weather farther down south? ;-)

I have been able to trace my father's lineage back to Samuel Smith b.1732, somewhere in Scotland and immigrated to (presumably) Dunbarton sometime before 1756, based on his children being born there or nearby. I am hoping someone can help me in tracing him back...

I have determined that he married Elizabeth someone and had three sons: Andrew b.1756 (probably Londonderry, NH), Thomas b.1759 (probably Derry, NH) and Samuel b.1761 (probably Dunbarton, NH).

I would like to find ot what happened to Samuel in Dunbarton, and also see if I can trace back from NH to Scotland roots... 'course, that's the name of the game!

Any help is appreciated, and if I can offer some local-research here for someone - I'd be happy to!

Thanks!
All the info I have been able to locate (very slim) points to their getting married in 1894 in Merrimack County, possiblly Concord. Names: John August Olson b:7-13-1874 - his f:Ole Olson m: Bothilda Jaussen (all from Sweden) Wife: Emma Johnson b: 4-6-1870. My trail with them starts in Chesire Conuty "Keene" in the 1900 Fed Census. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Mark

HELLO, I AM LOOKING FOR THE MARRIAGE DATE FOR MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER AND THIRD HUSBAND. THEY RESIDED IN ENFIELD OR IN THAT GENERAL AREA.

THOMAS WILLIAM DUNCAN
JOSEPHINE B. CA. 1881-1882 (NEE LAMBERT)
I BELIEVE THEY MAY HAVE MARRIED ABOUT JUNE OF 1936, BUT I NEED A CONFIRMATION WITH ACTUAL DATE.
THOMAS WOULD BE JOSEPHINE THRID HUSBAND AND THEY HAD NO CHILDREN. BOTH BURRIED IN ENFIELD N.H. IN THE DUNCAN LOT
ALSO LOOKING FOR THOMAS' DEATH DATE.

JOSEPHINE'S SECOND HUSBAND CHARLES CANFIELD D. 1921, ENFIELD N.H.

JOSEPHINE'S FIRST HUSBAND WILLIAM ROCK (LAROCQUE) DEATH DATE STILL UNKNOWN. I HAVE LOOKED IN CLINTON COUNTY NEW YORK, BUT I HAVE NOT LOCATED A DEATH DATE OR BURIEL PLACE. IF ANYONE HAS ACCESS TO NEW HAMPSHIRE RECORDS I WOULD LOVE THE HELP. WILLIAM B. 1875 PLATTSBURGH N.Y. -
I BELIEVE HE DIED AFTER 1917 SOMEWHERE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE OR VERMONT. JOSEPHINE MARRIED HER SECOND HUSBAND SOMETIME BETWEEN 1913-1914 WHEN THERE FIRST CHILD WAS BORN. I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE SHE WAS STILL MARRIED TO WILLIAM WHEN SHE MARRIED CHARLES CANFIELD. THERE IS NO RECORD OF DIVORCE AND NO DEATH DATE. WILLIAM AND JOSEPHINE HAD SIX CHILDREN TOGETHER BEFORE SHE HAD THREE MORE WITH CHARLES. ACCORDING TO MY GRANDFATHER'S MILITARY RECORDS OF 1917 WILLIAM WAS RESIDING IN SCHUYLER FALL, CLINTON COUNTY NEW YORK. HOWEVER, THERE IS NOTHING LISTED FOR HIM IN THE WHOLE STATE OF NEW YORK. AT THAT TIME JOSEPHINE HAD ALREADY GIVEN BIRTH TO THREE OTHER CHILDREN WITH CHARLES CANFIELD. APPRECIATE HELP WITH THE ABOVE.
Mary Durrell m. David Conner/Connor born Henniker or Hopkinton. Mary Durrell of Hopkinton, but I believe she was born at Durham. I have found refs. for Mary (Durrell)Conner/Connor, wife of David, d. 26 Mar 1796, Henniker.

However, I have found burial record in Vermont for one David Conner and wife Mary buried at Ascutney Cemetery. Death information, dates/ages, appear to point back to the above David and Mary (Durrell) Conner. The 1800 census, NH, Henniker indicates David was married, female of same age group as David.

Either death of 26 Mar 1796 for Mary (Durrell) Conner is incorrect or David married second, Mary Unknown. David and Mary buried at Vermont.

I would like to confirm that there is record of a Mary Conner d. 26 Mar 1796 and if possible that she was wife of David. I would also like to learn if David Conner/Connor married bet. 1796-1800 and if new wife was named Mary. ANY help or direction is very appreciated.

Bradford NH to Andover MA

Timothy Haggerty of Ireland (b approx 1824?) married Catherine (Kate) Donovan also of Ireland. Their first child, William, was born approx 1856/7 in Bradford NH according to census information. They are in the 1860 census in Andover, MA and all their remaining children were born there. We have been unable to establish how or when Timothy and Kate came to the US, where they were married, or why they were in Bradford NH when William was born. I'm hoping that someone can offer advice or info on what the town's attraction was to an incoming Irishman or whether either surname was/is prevalent in the area. Also, what is the best way to search for a birth record for William and a marriage record for his parents (online, possibly, as I'm 150 miles away)? Thanks.

John Rowe (Lt) b. 1737 or 1744? New Hampshire (m. Susanna Scribner)

Okay, so sue me... I have a theory which I would like to see either totally disproved, or challenged.

The long-standing family histories on the ROWE families show two separate John ROWEs, who I believe MAY actually be one and the same.

1737 John - There were TWO John ROWEs documented as b. 1737, that play into this equation. One was b. Jan-1737, son of John Rowe and Leah Blake, b. at Hampton Falls, NH.
The other was a John Rowe, b. Aug-1737 at Gloucester, MA, who later became a Captain in the MA Militia (no need to go on, he doesn't "fit")

This John b. Jan-1737 has never appeared married to anyone or had any children (at least none that I've seen). So... he has an ancestry, but no descendancy....

We now come to John Rowe, listed as b. 1744, Kingston, NH (granted, he WAS married in Kingston). He has a wife, and children (descendancy), but no ancestral lines ever noted.

Here, in a nutshell, is my theory:

1) There is no known connection to ANY ancestors for John Rowe b. 1744
2) There is no known marriage or children ever connected to John Rowe b. Jan-1737 (yes, to Aug-1737, but that's a different John)
3) If b. 1744, John was only 17 when married to a woman who would have been 3-4 years his senior (Susanna b. 1741, marriage in 1761, Kingston (by most accounts))
4) LESS than 10 miles separate Kingston (presumed birth location for 1744 John) and Hampton Falls (birth location of Jan-1737 John)
5) IF John was baptized later than other children, or, if his family happened to remove from a Hampton Falls church to a Kingston one, he MIGHT have been baptized in 1744 in KINGSTON, yet still have been born in 1737, at Hampton Falls. (though nothing suggests Kingston except marriage record - from what I've found)
6) Only KNOWN source for year of birth I've seen is his being listed aged 81 in 1825, when he died. If this was from a history, or a written document OTHER than an original notice of death, there's a CHANCE that 87 could have been read as 81 or even an 89 misread, similarly. This would put his birth 1736-1738, which would surely encompass the Jan-1737 DOB in this theory.

Does anyone have solid proof that the John b. 1737 had no marriage or children? Or, proof against the possibility that John listed b. 1744, could have been actually born in Hampton Falls, only 7 years earlier?

I welcome all challenges, as well as any ideas on how one might possibly prove this theory out. I've no idea where (as yet) John Rowe was buried in 1825, though I'd have to presume somewhere in Andover, NH. What condition might his marker be in, and if so, what entry is made? Is he listed with a date of death "at age" or were both years of birth and death inscribed?.

Looking forward to trying to break two brick walls at one time... I have 1737 and 1744 John in my database, and truly believe this theory is a factual possiblity, given the right set of FACTS, if they can still be sorted from non-facts or previous historical assumptions or assertions.

Cheers,

Jared "Jed" Handspicker
Nashua, NH
Cross family in Fisherfield (NH> NY>OH>WI)

My great-great-great grandfather Daniel Cross was born in Fisherfield NH in 1793/4. His father's name was Joseph and his mother may have been Sarah Tyler. She died when he was very young and he said he was raised by 2 maiden aunts, Prudence and Charity? I don't know if they were sisters to his mother or his father. I would deeply appreciate being able to authenticate his parents.
Daniel left NH and in NY married Mercy Fish. Together they had 12 children and over the years migrated from NY to OH and then WI. Daniel was a Methodist preacher and Mercy descended from a long line of Quakers. They died in Whitewater WI.
Their son Charles Giles Crosse (he added the e ) was a doctor in Sun Prairie WI. His home is now on the National Register and I am trying to document his lineage.
Can you help?

I am searching for my husbands great great grandfather, the only thing I know about him is that sometime between 1890 and 1898 he married Emily Kniveton, and they had two children, Gilbert Kniveton born 9 Aug 1898 and Margaret born 1899. By the 1900 census Emily was a widow living with her parents. The only name I have for him is Wiggins, tho I am kind of suspicious that his name might be Newton, as Gilberts middle name is Newton. The Kniveton family moved to New London, New Hampshire sometime after 1890 census, and then lived there until Emily died in 1966, she never remarried.

lookup request: Cecile Angelina Roberts (m. 1880s?) Adolphe Valliere

Hello, according to marriage record of a child, Cecile Angelina Roberts was born in Henniker, NH (est. 1865). She married Adolph Valliere - date & place unknown. Estimating before 1888 was the marriage. I could not find their marriage in Loiselle marriage index. So am wondering if they could have married in the states. They live in Manchester, NH by 1891 but I don't find a marriage record at that church (Ste.Marie). But since Cecile was born in Henniker I'm wondering if they could have married there? Am hoping to find their parents listed in the marriage record, particularly Adolph's or any other data that might be in the record like age or bp.
Does Henniker have a marriage index for the 1880's time frame? Are there copies of the marriage records available to the public? I'm assuming the marriage would be at a Catholic church, does someone know which ones existed at that time?

Thanks so much for any insight!
Patty (who is not local)

I looking for any information about the Cross family in the area of New London, or Newbury, which was called Fisherfield. My great grandfather was Ransom Cross. He was born in New Hampshire in 1827. The 1850 Census shows him living with a Eliphelet & Mahala Gay in New London. Some infomation shows that his Father may have been a Benjamin Gay Cross. This information comes from a reserchering of the town of Goshen in Sullivan County, NH. Other information shows that Benjamin was married to an Apphia Davis (born in 1804) in New London, Merrimack County, NH.

This would have been the age of George's mother, Almira, except that she died in 1840. George's father, John, died in 1843, and I have no indication that he remarried in that brief period.

I am searching for any information on William Smith, born 1755 in Dunbarton, Merrimack Co., NH. He reportedly served in the Revolutionary War, but as of yet we have not been able to locate the record. He married Margaret "Peggy" Allison, daughter of Samuel Allison and Janet McFarland. Family sources have said that William and Peggy had 11 children, but the only one I know of is Andrew Smith, born 10 Oct 1790, also in Dunbarton, NH. William Smith died in Dunbarton, NH 12 May 1826.

I am especially interested in info regarding William's parents or any siblings, but I would also like to find out the names of his other 10 children, and I would appreciate any information anyone might have. Please e-mail me with any info. Thank you.

Leah Alread

Can I post Vitals on the internet?

In light of how hard it is becoming to get our hands on vital records these days with all the new laws and ridiculous fees for copies, I was wondering about something. Does anyone know if it is legal for individuals to post vital records info on the internet if it's within the "public information" dates that state offers? For example, if CA lets you go in and make a copy of the record of any birth before 1908 (or whatever date that state deems old enough), is it legal for me to get my copy, and then publish that detailed info, not just an index listing, on the internet? I would obviously not post anything for people who could still be alive, and I would not publish SS#'s, as that kind of freaks me out that that's available online. I was thinking about starting a genealogy info sharing website that would allow us all to input all the other details on the vital records info line by line so we can all see it anytime we want and hopefully won't have to pay the state those crazy fees. Any idea if that's okay, or if such a website exists already? I was hoping to have a sharing info site all together, so we can all share what we've found, kind of like how people are starting to have more and more obits and headstones online! Specifically, I was wondering if there's a law against posting vitals, since I've never seen any actual scans or details online. I hope to one day have a submission form where people can add their vitals to my site and hopefully make it grow into quite a lot of free information.

Thanks for any input you have on the subject,
Brande
Raymond Purvis (1925-1984) & Patricia McManus, parents of Michael and Timothy

Hi
After finally find out the town and county where Raymond Purvis (son of Ralph and Mary Smith/Wesner Purvis brother of my father Harold Purvis they were seperated at a young age) died in Fl. I sent and got his death certificate (see attachment) The I wrote the funeral chapel listed on it and below is the response I got from them but I could never find his children listed as Cheryl, Deborah, Michael or Timothy. Nor could I find Patricia McManus listed as the boys mother in NH. But all the info from the chapel and on certificate is from 1984. This is the email response I got from chapel
" In response to your letter, I was able to locate the file on Mr. Raymond Purvis. Date of Birth July 14, 1925 - Date of death June 3, 1984. According to our records Cheryl Purvis (ex-wife) is listed as claimant of the VA Application for Burial Benefits. Her address was then was 4200 - 46th Ave. North St., St Petersburg, FL. 33714. Raymond was cremated on June 10, 1984. Authorization for the cremation was obtained daughters Cheryl Purvis 4200 - 46th Ave. North St., St Petersburg, FL. 33714 and Deborah Purvis Castel, 3 Rue Fournier, 92110 Clichy, France; and sons Timothy & Michael Purvis, as per Patricia McManus (mother & legal gaurdian), via Western Union Telegram stating the originating office was Allenstown, NH. "
This was signed Kathy Jennings Chapel Secretary 727-562-2040
On Raymond death certificate it lists his parents as unknown this makes me sad that his children didn't even know who Raymond's parents were. purvis-lesher@comcast.net
I am looking for any information regarding either Justice Abel Dunbar Jr. (b. abt 1827 in New Hampshire, d. in New Hampshire, m. Mary Howard Morrill who was born abt 1833 in New Hampshire) or Justice Abel Dunbar Sr. (b. abt 1788 in Massachusetts, d. in New Hampshire, m. Mechitable who was born abt 1796 in New Hampshire). Both of them lived in Contoocook/Hopkinton. Their first names were alternately spelled "Justice" or "Justus" depending on the document. Also, Justice Sr.'s wife, Mechitable, had her name alternately spelled Mechetable and Mechetabel. The father and son lived next door to each other at one point.

descendants of Harvey and Mary J. Bacon Scott

I am blessed with more than a couple of common names.

Harvey Scott was born 1826-27 in Vermont. 1860 census shows him age 33 in Salisbury, Merrimack Co, NH as a farm laborer owning real estate with one of the lowest values in that neighborhood. His wife Mary J. was 28, His son Marshall age 3, daughter Adela G an infant. His sister Lucretia M. age 31 was also born in VT, while everyone else was born in NH.

Apparently Harvey died before 1870, since Marshall age 13 and Adella G age 10 (and sister Silia age 8) are found with Amos Hearn and his wife Mary J. Hearn.

Marshall was born 1856-7 in Franklin NH.
Adella G. Scott born about 1860 in NH

Marshall W. Scott married Emmaetta Bennett in 1881 in NH. She was born about 1860 in Gilmanton NH.

They had about 7 children, including Chester C. Scott, born 7 april 190l in Franklin Merrimack Co NH

Chester Scott married Cecelia Adams in Franklin NH (she was dau of Alexander Adams and Unknown Davis) She was born about 1909 in Franklin, Merrimack Co NH, and died 1953 in same. In 1928, Chester was a Mill Operative, living on Terrace Road, Franklin NH.

Chester and Cecelia Adams Scott had children: Anne Scott; Dorothy Scott, married Unknown French, lived in NH; Norman F. Scott; Son Scott who died after falling out of a second story window when he was two years old; Yvonne. The children were sent into an orphanage when Yvonne was 5 and Norman was 7.

Rumor has it that the family came from French-speaking Canada (Quebec?) and that the progenitor was possibly Chandler. (name or occupation?)

John & Elizabeth Cotton Townsend; daug. Patty Townsend (m. 1788) John Learned

Searching for both parents of John TOWNSEND and wife Elizabeth COTTON. I descend through their daughter Patty TOWNSEND, near as can be determined in Feb. 1768 Hopkinton, Merrimack Co., NH. Patty married John LEARNED 14 Dec 1788, but do not know where. Patty & John, per The Learned Family of America, migrated to Montreal, Canada after marriage, then to someplace in VT., then on to Cortland Co., NY, then Bradford Co., PA. and finally to Hocking Co., OH. where both died in 1844.
John and Elizabeth may also have a daughter Betsey (Elizabeth?) who married Jacob GOULD. So, if anyone recognized this daughter, I would appreciate hearing from you, as well.
This winter e-mail address will only be in effect until the end of March '06, then we will be heading back home and hopefully I will get my old Insight address back when hooked back up Apr. 5th or 6th. - jaburkhardt@insightbb.com, if all else fails, please write me at 1056 W.
