Hi - Ancestry has the NH 'Genealogies of the Families of Acworth' by Rev. J. L. Merrill 1869 on line. Starting on page 230 is the family of Abel Humphrey and Sarah Watkins of Ashford, CT. It looks like Abel's parents are Samuel Humphrey and Mary Carpenter and Sarah Watkins are Amasa Watkins and Ann Works. As can be seen the family below, on RootsWeb.com, is missing lots of dates and places as well as spouses of the grandchildren.
wanted information on former Camp Interlaken in Croyden, NH

Although I am not looking for genealogy of a family per se, I am trying to find out what happened to a camp that was called Camp Interlaken in the 50's and early 60's. It was run by Charles and Ida Dudley, then taken over by their son Bernard Dudley. A drowning occurred either in 1960, 61, or 62. The owners decided to sell the camp and start a new camp Interlaken in either Chester or Sharon Vermont. I can't quite remember which town. I want to visit the "old" Camp Interlaken. This place contains some of my most precious childhood memories. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate this.

Is anyone familiar with David S. Queen of West Unity, N.H.?My information is that he is a nephew of the late Staff Sergeant Harry B. Queen, a World War II MIA who was lost in 1944 on the same Army Air Force aircraft as my uncle, 1st Lt. Irwin G. Zaetz. Within the past year, the wreckage of this aircraft was discovered in a remote part of northeastern India. My family is trying to find relatives of the missing crewmen to persuade the Department of Defense to send a recovery team to the site of the wreckage. David Queen's parents were the late Esther L. (Gault) Queen and Herman Queen, Sergeant Queen's brother. Any information on how I can contact David Queen would be greatly appreciated.

George E. Grant son of Erastus Grant, b. Lyme 28 Oct 1823, d. Oakland, CA 3 Dec 1904

In the History of the State of California and Biographical Record of Oakland and Environs… by James Miller Guinn published in 1907, a sketch is found of George E. GRANT. He was born in Lyme, Grafton Co., New Hampshire, 28 October 1823 son of Erastus Grant, a prominent farmer and woolen manufacturer of Scotish heritage. He was educated in the public schools and later at Hanover “select school”. Hanover is located just downriver from Lyme. (He would have been about seven years older than George W. Lull who is the object of my research) George E. Grant then became a clerk in a general store in Hanover. In fact, the 1850 census of Lyme, Grafton Co., New Hampshire shows George E. Grant in his parents’ household in Lyme. His father Erastus is listed as a hotel keeper and George as a clerk with three younger siblings (Lucy E., John H. and Abby E.). The DAR compiled an 1852 census for California which shows a George E. Grant in San Francisco which agrees with this sketch’s account of his traveling to California via the Isthmus of Panama in 1850. (One wonders if George W. Lull had made the older George E. Grant’s acquaintance back in New Hampshire. George W. Lull’s father was living in New Hampshire in 1850 in Sullivan Co., New Hampshire over the border from Grafton County in Claremont, a town like Lyme on the western border of New Hampshire on a common river route with Lyme and Hanover.)
The Guinn sketch tells of George E. Grant’s many investments including real estate, the Key Route Railway in Oakland, the Union Savings Bank and as a founder of the Mountain View Cemetery where some of the rich and famous like Julia Morgan, Charles Crocker and J.A. Folger of coffee fame are buried. Civic activities show he applied with others to get the sewer extended on 3rd Ave. from East 12th to East 15th in 1876. He sold a 30 x 125 foot lot for $200 located 125 feet north of 24th, in Jan 1877 to a Charles W. Read. He lived comfortably in the home he built at 1253 Third Ave. in Oakland with his wife Ellen L. Daggett (of Maine) and children Abigail L. and George E. Jr. There were other children who evidently did not survive to adulthood; an Alfie L., an Ebb and C.A. are indicated in the census. George E. Sr. died 3 December 1904 survived by his wife and two married children. Daughter Abigail married Rev. C. W. Wendte, of the 1st Unitarian Church of Oakland; son George married Laura Farell of Berkeley. (The sketch does not mention Cambria or George W. Lull.) George E. Grant is buried in Plot 2 Lot 24 of the Mountain View Cemetery; he was vice president at his death.
George W. Lull, my interest, b. Vermont 1830 was a business partner of George E. Grant in Cambria, San Luis Obispo, California from about 1858 to abut 1889 where they dealt in cattle at first but due to a drought switched to general merchandising. Any information on this relationship would be welcome, thanks!
Arabel Lull Hunt born VT 12 Sept 1827 & Siblings Eliz. Betsey, Abner Wesley, George W. & Edwin M.

I am researching George W. Lull, b. VT 27 May 1830. I believe Arabel S. Hunt in the 1850 Sullivan Co. census: household of George W. Hunt age 27 shoemaker b. NH. ca 1823, wife Arabella S. age 24 b. VT and son George E. b. N.H. ca 1849 is the sibling I am looking for. I am hoping Arabel is the sister of George W. Lull as the Hunts are the household above Abner Lull age 50, farmer b. VT and wife Sophia age 50ish and son Edwin age 16. Abner Lull and wife Sophia had 5 children at least: Elizabeth Betsy b. 10 Jan 1825 VT, Arabell, Abner Wesley b. 27 April 1828, George W.W. and Edwin M. b. 28 May 1834 VT. I am hoping to find out more about George W. Lull from family of his siblings. Arabel is the only one I have an idea on. George W. Lull was a pioneer of my home town, Cambria, California arriving nearby in about 1858 to raise cattle with a partner in Oakland, CA, George E. Grant (sorry for all the Georges!). George W. Lull married in Vemont, August M. Goff; their daughter was Lizzie Sophia who 1st married Wilber Goff then a Henry Avery. She died Lynn, MA 1933. She had 3 children by Wilber Howe, one dying in the Spanish American War; she had no surviving children by Henry Avery. George lost wife Augusta 1858 and remarried in Cambria 1863 Mary Leah Barnhardt Inman. Does any of this ring a bell? Many, many thanks!

Fourteen people became sick and six died. I hope someone in the area can find out if three of those were the Loiselle children: Mary Emma, Anna Loysia, and Carrie Agnes. Thank you.

She was born 1834 in Vermont.

I cannot locate her before this time (or anyone else with this last name) I suspect this may be her married name and she may be widowed in 1860, no marital status is indicated on the census.

In 1870 I find her in California>Solano>Rio Vista working as a domestic, again no indication of marital status on the census.

Then I cannot locate her in 1880 under this name.

I was wondering whether anyone can locate a marriage record for her (I am hoping her maiden name was Curry), or possibly a death record for her husband, or any other information on her?

Thank you in advance for any help.
Loretta

I am searching my Shubael H. HAWES, who by the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records seems to have been born about 1840 to Captain Shubael HAWES 1802-1856, the latter living in Newport, Sullivan, NY in the 1850 census.

I have run across a researcher's posting that states that Shubael H. HAWES was born instead on 5 May 1849, rather than in about 1840 as repeatedly indicated in the census.

Could some kind soul with access to Edmund Wheeler, The History of Newport NH from 1766 to 1878 with a Genealogical Register (1879), check to see if there are any entries for Captain Shubael HAWES born 1802, and his son Shubael b. crica 1840? The father was supposedly a sea captain. Shubael the elder m. Nancy B. SMITH in 1827, and Shubael the younger m. Lucinda B. PRATT in about 1863.

I will of course pay for copies and reasonable expenses. Scanned pages would be even better.

Thanks!
Craig

Seeking family of Anna STEBBINS GILMORE of Saybook, CT to Acworth, NH c.1810-20

Seeking any STEBBINS family information and dates regarding Anna STEBBINS and her Saybrook, CT family prior to moving to Acworth, NH as a new GILMORE bride.

She married Gawin Gilmore (aka: Gawen, Gowin, etc.) of Acworth, NH sometime between about 1807 and 1819 (best guess). Their marriage location is unknown to me. Her birth and death dates are unknown to me. Anna & Gawin lived in Acworth, Sullivan Co., NH. They had at least 3 daughters together: Sally Ann, Caltha, and Nancy, all born in Acworth, NH. Anna supposedly came from Old Saybrook, CT. She was Gawin's second wife, following the death of his first, Sally Grout in June of 1807.

So far, I have had no luck in locating Anna's CT family. Any details or leads are much appreciated. Her daughter, Nancy GILMORE PARKS (b.1819 NH; d.1859 MN) is my gg-grandmother. Also any leads/dates for Nancy's full sisters Sally Ann and Caltha would be very much appreciated.

McCoy - MC Koy - Acworth New Hampshire and Vermont

A Robert McCOY or MC KOY shows up in Essex County census 1800, 1810, 1820 (he's listed in index in 1810 as McROY). Did he die in that county? He seems to have quite a few people in his household in those census years, so there must be some descendants out there!

I believe he's the one who lived in Acworth, New Hampshire in 1793 when he married Anna WILLISTON or WILSON. I think they had son William and possibly a daughter Polly McCoy who married John WILSON in Acworth. Any help here appreciated and thanks in advance. Joanne
Looking for information on Rosie Cross b. Claremont, NH around 1884. Father was Sylvester Cross. She moved to MA in her teens. No information as to why. She may have had older siblings, but that isn't known either. According to info I have, the 1900 census said she and father were living in the same home, and he was quite a bit older...more like a grandfather. We have her middle name as Melina, but there was a Rosie A Cross in this area, same birth year, on this site also from Sullivan County. Thanks for any information. Her living daughters are now 96 and 92 and would very much like to know something about their heritage. The youngest daughter died; she would be nearly 90 now. I am a granddaughter.

Would it include birth information and names of the parents of the bride and groom? Where would this record be found and what would it cost to order a copy?
Can anyone suggest other long-distance resources I might use to locate the parents of Amarilla?
Davis/Smart Sullivan Co., NH

I would like to exchange information with others researching the Davis and Smart families of Sullivan Co., NH. My g-g grandmother Rose (Rosette) Davis was born in (probably Sunapee/Wendell) Sullivan Co. New Hampshire, on 4 Feb 1845. Her parents’ names were (probably William) Davis and (probably Harriet) Smart. According to family tradition, her father died when she was very young, her mother was unable to care for her large family, and Rose was adopted by John and Harriet (Williams) Puffer, who later moved to Dallas Co., Iowa. Rose later married Joseph Noel.

I believe Rose’s mother is probably the Harriet Davis (age 38, born Canada) listed in the 1850 census living with Samuel Smart (maybe her brother) in Goshen. In 1880, she is living in Sunapee with her sister Lucindy. Rose’s other siblings may include: George (b. about 1841), Lucinda (b. about 1847) and Annie. The Smart and Davis families might also have connections with Newport and Claremont, NH.
My ancestor was Joseph Finlay who was buried in the old cemetery in Acworth NH, having died 1797. His tombstone says: A.F. and A.M. which I assume referes to the Masonic fraternal organization. Can someone tell me where the nearest Masonic Lodge would be located? I don't see one in Acworth in the listing of NH lodges. If anyone knows about a Masonic lodge in the Acworth area in the late 1700's, I'd like to hear from that person! Thanks. I was wondering if these remains are that of an eighteenth century socialist commune or just another abandoned rock farm...
-KS

Searching the Sweeney, Burke and Malony families

For a time I was raised by the remnants of the intermarried familes of Sweeney, Burke, and Malony; for a time prominent in business circles in the County. Most of these old folks died before or soon after I came to live in the old house. I know longer remember much personal details including the full names of that older generation. I would like to honor these families, whose lines are now extinct as far as I know, by putting together a bit of family history for my children and grandchildren. Being in California, I haven't access to local sources to fill in this history. So I'm looking for not only the complete names of the Sweeneys but also other vital statistics on and earlier roots of the principals mentioned below. By the way, I'm not experienced in either genealogy or the internet so bare with me.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sweeney (and wife, nee Burke) owned Sweeney Plumbing, Heating (etc.). They had no children. Gordon Malony took over his uncle's business and expanded to Sunapee after WWII. Gordon's maiden aunt Emma Burke was for a time employed by the Coy Paper Company as bookkeeper. The Burkes came from Charleston, NH, at least that is where Gordon Malony claimed he was born.

Gordon Malony married three times, the last to my father's oldest sister, Mary Chrostowski. They had no children from this or his prior marriages. Gordon and Mary owned and operated the Moody Hotel until perhaps the early 1950's when they retired to the upper Broadstreet home formerly occupied by the Sweeneys and Ms Burke. Gordon died in 1957, Mary in 1973. The old "homestead" was torn down later as part of redevelopment.

According to the book "History of Charlestown, NH Fort No. 4 by Rev. Henry A. Sanderson, Joseph and Mary Johnson had 6 children.....Seth, born 23 April 1786, Buckley born 17 February 1788, Josiah born 6 October 1789, Joseph Hunt Johnson born 1791, Emma Johnson born 1793, and Mary Jane Johnson born 1795. I descend from Joseph Hunt Johnson. Is there anyone in Sullivan County or anyone else who could shed more light on Joseph and Mary Johnson? Did they marry in Charlestown or where? Who did they descend from?

Luey/Spalding/Smead/Clapp in Cornish ca 1850s

I'm trying to trace the path of a Smead family loom that's in the PVMA museum in Deerfield, Mass. It was donated by a John Luey who said it came from Cornish, NH, in the 1870s. It had previously been used by Erastus Smead in Deerfield in the 1730s. Any information connecting the Luey, Smead, Clapp, or Spalding families in Deerfield and Cornish would be appreciated. I think a Clarissa Spalding (ca 1795 - 1855) married John Luey and lived in Cornish, but how do they connect to the Smeads?
