How to get NJ Birth & Death records from 1848 to present

I see a lot of questions on the boards about vital records for NJ, so I thought I would pass on what I have learned.

If you are looking for a NJ birth or death certificate, here's what to do:

for 1848-1878: these were not required, so it may not exist. But if it does it is at NJ Archives. Here is how to request one:

for 1878 to present are at the VItal Records.

Note: You must include a photocopy of 2 forms of ID, one with a picture.
