The library in Rockaway Borough, NJ has a box of letters and photos left behind by Allen Jenkins when he left the town around 1909 and moved to Newark, where he then worked for the Wiss family for many decades, until he died.
Allen Eaton Jenkins, born June 10, 1881 in Henderson NC, died Oct 1952
In Newark he married Theresa [born? died 1969]. She also worked for my family for many decades.
They had two children:
Olga B Jenkins, born abt 1916
Cortland M Jenkins, born abt 1918, died 1990
Cortland, also known as Junior, worked at Wells Cadillac & Oldsmobile in South Orange, NJ. Olga in 1942 worked as a hairdresser.
In 1942 parents and children lived at 767 Hunterdon St in Newark. They held a mortgage on this house in 1920. I presume they owned it until Theresa died in 1969. The house is no longer.
The library is planning to exhibit the letters and photos. They have not been able to find any descendents. We don't know if Olga married, but not finding her in the SSDI implies that she did.
The Newark Star Ledger has visited the library and has an article on Allen Jenkins planned for an upcoming Sunday edition. Probably soon. The library is hoping that the article will ferret out more information.
Neither the library or I are into genealogy, so I have come here asking for help.
