Somewhere in Mississippi

My GGF and family moved from New Orleans to Mississippi in Apr. 1861 and lived "somewhere in Mississippi" until Oct. 1867 when they resettled in Orange, NJ where they lived through 1881. Three children were born in MS. 1862 - 1866. Were there any records filed in Orange that would show the city or town where they lived in MS, 1861 through 1867 (i.e. during the Civil War)? The 1870 and 1880 US censuses show them in Mississippi, but not the city or town. Years ago I inquired about school records in Orange, but found none. Thanks for any ideas.
