My ancestor Charles Hill sold 181 17th St. to Malachi Tarrant in 1901 (Hudson Co. DB 793:262). On 2 Jan 1906, Hill gave Tarrant a lease on a store at 640 Grove(DB 922:621). Tarrant was described on the 1905 NJ State Census as a "saloon keeper". One of my aunt's friends, Mary O'Mara, who apparently lived in the area said Tarrant was from Killarney and was responsible for building a large barn in the area that was used for handball. I don't have any info on the Curtin family.
