As you may know, many US Army records were lost in a 1973 fire at the Archives Center in St Louis MO. I have several friends who have never been able to obtain the records of their ancestors.
A nice alternative for those of us with NJ roots - the "unofficial" military records for NJ veterans.
I've just received the record for my grandfather, who served only 6 months at the end off WWI.
At $5 for the search, copy and mailing, it's a deal. The service was extremely quick. I mailed off my request and check on June 19. The check posted to my account on July 3, and I received the photocopy, from a microfilm card file, yesterday.
