Surnames: Dye, Dey, Day
Looking for information or connections for Joseph Dye, Dey or Day, who lived in the Trenton area in 1818. I suspect he is Joseph Dye Jr., son of Joseph Dye Sr. & Phoebe Hance, born some time before 1795.

I do research on Officers of the State Prison system in NJ from years past. Primarily I search out those who died in the line of duty and see that they are included on State and National Memorials.

An Assistant State Prison Keeper, Joseph Dye was stabbed and seriously wounded in an escape attempt at New Jersey State Prison in 1818. I suspect that he may have succumbed to those wounds, but there are no good records that I have found thus far that will positively identify him and a date of death.
