I am looking for information on my great great grandmother. Her name was Fanny Jameson nee Chamberlain. By about 1940 she was in the insane asylum in Trenton, New Jersey and we think she died there. I am looking for a death date and the reason why she was in the asylum. Does anyone have any info on her or where I would find this information?
Thanks.

First Baptist Church Cemetery
125 South Main Street
Hightstown, Mercer County, New Jersey USA 08520

The Old Baptist Graveyard; Hightstown Baptist Cemetery; Hightstown Baptist Graveyard.

From CranburyHistory.org (Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society, Cranbury, New Jersey):

The Baptist Church in Cranbury was founded in 1745 with John Hight (Hightstown) as one of the 17 original members. The first meeting house was built in 1748 on property occupied later by the Spice Mill. The church was used for 40 years, then sold to Dr. Stites and moved. The congregation moved to Hightstown in 1785. The front part of the church grounds was sold and the burial grounds by 1882 were neglected and contained only 4 standing headstones.

From the Hightstown-East Windsor Historical Society, May-June 1998, article by Richard S. Hutchinson:

. . . "by 1925 pressure to modernize the church facilities at Hightstown resulted in proposals to replace the 1834 brick structure . . . and to remove the eyesore posed by the graveyard. Over the years the graveyard had badly deteriorated and become a maintenance problem, and since few of the current church members had any close connection with persons buried there, the proposal to level the burial ground met with little dissent . . . Soon afterward the 1834 building and the graveyard were destroyed.

It wasn't until 1969, that the church's destroyed cemetery came back into the forefront of the history of death, went for naught. In August of that year, the church began construction to extend the rear of the church's Christian Education building which meant digging toward the location of the previous cemetery. . . During this construction, the contractor working on the project "encountered headstones piled on top of each other, and some human remains." The work on the project was halted by this discovery and everyone headed to court. The work did not continue until September 25th of that year after the Mercer County court issued an order to allow for the relocation of the human remains uncovered during the construction.

Church officials judged the remains to be those of Ann Allen (died 1875), Nancy Chamberlin, EMERSON CREQUE, HETTIE K. CREQUE, Orpha Giberson, Addison Mount, Mary Elizabeth Mount (died 1843), Rebecca Mount (died 1841), Sarah Matilda Mount (died 1849), John Wyckoff Slack, Peter B. Slack and his wife Abigail Applegate, and Thomas Slack and his wife Rachel. The human remains unearthed were later buried together in the far rear of the church property under a bronze marker which read "Beneath this marker are buried the few unidentifiable remains of graves transferred from that portion of the old church burial grounds now occupied by the stair tower on the east side of Eaches Chapel. November 10, 1969." It was reported that among the stones uncovered in the pile of gravestones during the excavation for this building project were those of Rev. Peter Wilson, the second pastor of the church, who was born in Windsor Township on the 14th of May in 1753 and the lower half of the broken stone of Rev. John Seger, the third pastor of the church, who was born in New York on the 4th of February 1786."
Hi. Thanks for your post. I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to find a connection between your Michael Kovacs & my Kovacs family. They met here in the US, and had their first child (a daughter) in New Jersey in 1891. I believe I've found all of John & Margaret's children, and there was never a mention of a son named Michael. Again, I'm sorry about the bad news, but please let me know if anything else turns up.

Best regards,

Sam Bishop

Where Can I Find Early Hopewell Records???

Hello Fellow Researchers,

I have seen numerous websites with exact birth dates and marriage dates for people who lived in Hopewell in the 1700's posted. Would someone please tell me the source or sources for these exact dates?

I have seen such information for members of the Anderson, Drake, and Runyon families, but have yet to find any primary source listed, but since people can hardly be making them up, there must be a source!

I have obtained copies of original documents proving my ancestry back to Cornelius Anderson (whose will was proved 19 Aug 1768 and who lived in Hopewell) and his wife Catherine. Numerous websites claim that she was the daughter of Thomas Runyon, but, so far, I have not located any evidence or proof, to support the claim.

Could sks please direct me to the source or sources of these early Hopewell birth, marriage, and death records?

Thank you,

Carol Anne

Thanks so much for your offer! I am especially interested in obits for the following people:

Mary Biddulph (nee Brown), wife of Joseph, born in England ca. 1840 and died in Trenton 5 July 1902, according to the information I have. I believe she had something like 9 children (not all survived), and one of the grown children was probably named Thomas. She may have owned a store of some kind.

Joseph Biddulph, born in England ca. 1840, husband of Mary, probably a potter by trade, died in Trenton ca. 1892. He may have been heavily involved in bowling.

Thanks so much for anything you can find!

Catherine Biddulph

Thank you SO much for your help!I apologize for the delay in responding but I've been out of town. (Managed to do a little on-scene genealogy research while I was at it!)

I haven't found any more info on Joseph Biddulph's date of death--I believe that 1892 date was an approximation. If I do find more info, I will be sure to re-request his obit. :)

And thank you for trying alternate spellings--our family name has been mutilated in some truly imaginative ways, both during my lifetime and in very old census returns and newspaper articles. (My personal favorite has to be "Buddah"!)

I would very much appreciate if you could email me Mary Biddulph's obit; email is catherine.biddulph@gmail.com

Again, thanks so much for your time and for helping me find out more about one of my first "American" ancestors!

Sincerely,

Catherine Biddulph
Omaha, Nebraska
Hi I could not find an Obit for Thomas Rose , I tried a search for Annie Rose but the program included Rose as a middle name and the were too many hits , unfortunately the articles are not indexed by type in the later years .
One thing I did find was a death notice for Helen Mary Rose (attached) daughter of Thomas and Anna Rose dated July 12 1910 , it says she was interred in Cathedral Cemetery ( I am assuming it means ST. Mary's Cathedral , so my inclination would be to think her parents would be buried there too later. The problem with that is I do not recall ever seeing a Cathedral Cemetery in the area , there is a St Mary's but thats in Hamilton not Trenton . Maybe you could contact both and ask about death records :
St Marys Cathedral
609) 396-8447
151 N Warren St
Trenton, NJ

St Marys Cemetery
St. Mary's Cemetery (Catholic)
1200 Cedar Lane
Hamilton, New Jersey 08610
(609) 396-6741

If you can find a date I can do a better search .If you need anything else looked up please feel free to ask

Wendy

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I suppose it could very well be that there was no obituary at all. However , if I find a date i will come back to you.
The son, also Thomas , died in February 1980. He would have been about 73.( SSN142-01-7995). I am trying to find descendents/relations. If you can find an obituary on this one it might give a lead. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Do you know if they had a son named Michael Kovacs later Kovach who was born between 1890 and 1892. He's my grandfather, he came over from Austria or Hungary around 1912 and settled in New Jersey, then moved to Wisconsin by 1920 and married my grandmother Katherine.
