I am looking for my roots in Passaic County. My mother's side of the family settled in Paterson, Wayne and Preakness-my grandfather,Walter SIKKEMA and then uncle, Fred SIKKEMA, owned and operated Preakness Dairy. My Great-grandfather Frederik SIKKEMA was married twice: once to Trijntje Jans TILLEMA (both residing in Paterson at the time of their marriage in 1890) and the second time to Elizabeth BUIS (I have little information on this marriage except that it happened somewhere around 1894). My maternal grandmother was Trijntje [Kuiken] SILLEMA and was the daughter of Dirk (DD) KUIKEN and Klaasje ROSENDAL. They settled in Paterson, at East 25th Street. My paternal grandparents were: Johan TOL, Sr. and Alice BIJSTERBUSCH (although her name was Americanized to either Bysterbusch or Bysterbush) and they lived down by railroad tracks down in "lower" Paterson. All family lines follow back to Dutch ancestry and locating the more recent line(s) here in the United States has been challenging.
