You might try checking Naturalization records via the Passaic County Clerk's webpage. Unfortunately, they are not all listed. Most likely your family attended St. John's church if catholic. It was mostly Irish back then. Let me know if you need help.

Jeff

I would start at ancestry.com They have records of people immigrating to the US. They have ship passenger records of all US ports. There are some indexes of naturalization records. If you don't want to join ancestry (there is a fee) You can find out where there might be a library with genealogy records. Some of the larger libraries have ship passenger list. You could also check the census for 1910 for Paterson and see if they are listed. If they married it might be impossible to find them.
I think that Annie and Gerrit are my great grandparents. Their ages are correct for 1889. And I do know that Gerrit's mother was called Klazina. If possible, could you send a copy of the image (.pdf) or otherwise. If not possible, please tell me how and where you obtained your copy so that I may contact the church.

I just recently visited their (collective) grave site at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, NJ.

Thank you.

I have not done any further research in a very long time on anyone connected with my father's side of the family. Everyone that probably knew anything at all is now deceased. There was another John Loguda in Carteret, NJ but he would never respond to letters I had written. He was known to have traveled back to the old country on several occassions. My uncle and his wife in Passaic are deceased but their children are still in the NJ area.

Hi, thank you so much for the information!!!!!!! I really am searching for Jacomijntje van Koppen and the exact deathdate of her parents. Jacomijntje married with Charly DeGraff and after her divorce she stayed "behind" with her son Peter. I did find them in the 1930 Census living with her parents in Paterson. But after that???

I'm trying to find out more about the "van Koppen"-family. Cornelis van Koppen was born the first of May 1874 in Ouddopr, The Netherlands and emigrated with his wife Jannetje Heerschap (Born 5 November 1878 Ouddorp)in 1913 to the USA (Paterson). Information I've got tells me Cornelis is buried in Fair Lawn memorial Cemetery in 1962 and Jannetje in 1935. One daughter known: Jacomijntje (Minnie) born 31 december 1895 in Ouddorp.
Looking for obituaries or other info on the family.

Thanks for the info.I had obtained the info you provided regarding Jos Scull awhile back from the Paterson genealogy web page. But I never went back and did an update on ancestry.
Henry actually had 3 sons, Henry Jr, the one who lived in Hawthorne for 75 years, William and Roy, who was my grandfather. I have now traced back to Henry's grandfather John and have not identified his parents although I have several possibilities in the late 1700 in Sussex County, NJ.
I do not think William Eakins who married Forshay is in my line. There were several Eakins families in Paterson in the 1860s. Nellie Death Benjamin was an immigrant to the US from England. Her parents were William and Elizabeth ( I believe)from Banbury England.Elizabeth died there and I have copies of her funeral cards and headstone (from 1860 as well as a current day photo sent by the Banbury group on rootsweb. Phoebe Sisco was born in Macopin, NJ in 1850 and I have identified her father, whose name I can't recall right now (I don't have my references with me). So I have made a fair amount of progress on the family over the years.

I haven't done any research on this line in several years. But here is what I have. 1860 census has William (50),Jane 48,John 23,Robert 21,Sarah 17,Matilda 14,William 11,Larissa?9,Elizabeth 5. I am assuming you are referring to the William age 50 in the 1860 census? As you can see the names all repeat so I'm not sure which generation might be the one you are looking at.The census shows William and Jane were born in Ireland, John in Scotland and the rest in NJ. The next generation(eg.Joseph born 1888) is buried in Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa,NJ. In the 1891/2 NJ Directory, John is listed as a watchman, Wm Jr is a boilermaker living at 114 Spruce St with Robert, a laborer. My records show this Robert was born 1869. Another Robert, Joseph,Elizabeth and George lived at 440 Ellison. This Robert shows no occupation and may have been retired and the other Robert's father. A NJ Robert shows up in the Civil War pension records. The names are so repetitive that we really need dates to try and sort things out.

My gg-grandfather John Eakins and his brothers Robert and William lived in Paterson in the same era. They had a brother Samuel who had remained in Donaghmoyne, County Monaghan, and their father was Joseph Eakins. My gg-grandfather's brother Robert was a Paterson grocer, but I can't find his death or probate records. William and John are buried in Paterson, but I don't find Robert.

I looked just for Persis, born 1901, in case she married, but I didn't find a match. Of course, if she married, she might have had to give up her teaching job and then wouldn't have been employed when SS was started.

Hope this is helpful.

Hey Guys,

I googled "St. Boniface" in the wake of that shockingly sad murder of the priest in Chatam, NJ today, because a similar murder of a priest took place at St. Bon's in the 70's or so. My parents were married there in 1957 and my entire German family attended that church until closing. I believe that murder led to it's demise. I can't find it on the internet though (it's so long ago) and I can't remember the name of that priest do you?

Reverend Francis English was murdered at the Rectory of St. Boniface Church in October, 1974. He was a great person as well as a wonderful friend. His death led to the final demise of the parish. I think I have most of the newspapers that covered his murder. He was murdered by the brother of one of the church workers. Father English was a great humanitarian. The former church and school buildings have been named in his honor. Saint. Boniface school closed in June of 1974. I was the last one to graduate. My great Grandfather was in the first Graduating class and his mother was proficient in builing the parish in the early 1860's. If you need anything further please feel free to ask.

If I remember correctly, the last time I saw uncle Henry was at aunt Lottie's wedding in the early 1950's. I have been curious to know happened to him and why the family got disconnected.

I hope you get this and hope to hear from you soon,
Leo
1925 envelope sent by G ROSE of 11 Clinton Avenue, Clifton to Senftenberg, Germany

I recently found a photograph of an old envelope that was sent by a G ROSE of 11 Clinton Avenue, Clifton to Senftenberg, Germany in 1925. You can see the envelope on http://philgen.org (search on Senftenberg, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. There is a George ROSE living at 26 McCosh Road in the 1930 census of Clifton. Is it possible to determine if these 2 Georges are the same person? The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (viewable at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

My father's name was Robert Joseph Entwistle, born in 1921. I believe his father had the same name and was born in 1892,
both in Trenton, New Jersey. I just thought this was so fascinating that the fathers apparently kept passing down their name for several generations. My grandfather married Mary Huley also of Trenton and I remember huge family reunions of mainly Huleys and some Entwistles. This Robert Joseph born in 1865 could have been my great grandfather!
