The 8 Jan 1841 Armijo Grant was from the Mexican government [Independence from Spain, 10 Sep 1821]. In 1846 Stephen w. Kearny crossed the Raton Pass to claim the New Mexico Teritory for the United States. The 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo honored existing land titles.
Colfax County was established in 1869 and Maxwell sold his property on 17 May 1870 and moved to Fort Sumner.
