Pete was my mothers first cousin. In this obituary the name Mat Bustamante is incorrect, and should be NAT, or NATIVO Bustamante for both Jr. and Sr. in this obit. Also the name Bustamante is spelled wrong several times in this obit. The name Lean Barr should be Lena Barr. Just letting folks know, In case anyone cares, these folks are my relatives.

If it may help in some small measure:
NM had no formal system of recording deaths until 1919;I tried every known database for them to no avail;the best you can hope for there is a county record, if McKinley county kept such records.
You already know that Opal was with aunt and uncle Matt and Clara Mattson and family in that county in 1920;and John and Delbert were next door with Charles and Myrtle Barker and their sons.
In 1900,Clara and Nora Barker lived with their grandparents John and Elizabeth Barker and uncle Charles in Kansas.
In 1910,the Mattsons and Davenports lived next door to each other in McKinley county:
Davenport,James-35,married 4 years;born TX,parents born IL;farmer
wife-Nora-19;born KS,one child born,one living
son-Johnnie-2;born NM
and Charles Barker age 25.
If it might help connect dots: Matt Mattson is shown to be divorced in 1930,three children and a daughter in law with him. He died in 1931;Matt Jr. died in 1956 and son Charlie died in 1937;they and Charles Barker are buried in Hillcrest cemetery in Gallup.

I am trying to help a friend located information about her great-grandparents. They lived in McKinley County until 1918 when they both pasted away due to influenza. Their names where James Davenport and Nora Barker (Barken). They had 3 children at the time. Their names were: John, Delbert and Opal Davenport. When James and Nora died the boys went with their Uncle Charles Barker to live and Opal went to live with one of Charles and Nora's sisters. If you can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Donna

Wow! Thank you so much for replying. We live in Albuqurque.
Because of Matilda Longren I have been able to piece together my father's history. He kept many photos of his family but would never talk much about them.
My father's father was born in San Il Delfonso. His mother's mother was born in Abiquiui. Not sure if they were Native American. What I am interested in is why they left these areas. I question the obvious, jobs, because both of these areas are close to places that were booming.
There seems to be a connection with the Railroad business and possibly the lumber industry.
Although Delfino Ortega would be my Great Grandfather I am not very interested in him because of how he treated Matilda. From what I have learned he wasn't very nice. However I am curious how Josephine met him.
Most important is how Fred Longren met Josephine. I wonder if he worked for the railraod.
I visited the cemetary in Abiqui. There were no Gallegos there. There were some markers that were unreadable. We hope to visit there again and do more research.
Again thank you for your response. I have posted some photos on our family tree site under Roybal-Fltecher. Maybe there is someone you recognize.
Everytime we travel West we try to visit areas my ancestors once lived. We have been to Pino Altos; Mogallion; Sawyer; Perea; St. Johns; Flagstaff and most recently McGaffey. In a way it is nice to see these places.
Most of them are ghost towns. We did meet some wonderful people with colorful histories. Ancestry is quite a quest.

Thanks Again for your info.
R.Fletcher

I had not seen previous posts. I just read the recent one from J Fletcher. I have a lot of information on Matilda Lundgren Bigley, Josephine's first child by Fred Lundgren and my grandmother. Josephine ran away with Matilda when Matilda was very small due to mistreatment by Fred. She remarried a Delfin Ortega in Arizona and they had many more children, including Lupe. Matilda married Ted (Theodore F.) Bigley in 1910 in Sawyer NM. They had 6 children, Theodore, Harold, Elizabeth, Rebecca,Mary, and John, now all deceased. My mother, Rebecca Starkovich, had 6 children, one now dec. I have many more details and family stories and I keep in touch with many of my cousins. I know very little about Ted Bigley except that he was born in Edina, MO. and his family had moved to Phoenix AZ. He met Matilda in Sawyer while working as a brakeman on the train--she lived with the school supt.s family. Would love to communicate with others. I have lots of info...I live in Elephant Butte NM.

Charles L. Frederick was Evelyn Adele Frederick Schien Dirreen, my mother's great uncle. I only have information that he married Harriet Emily Stricklin 17 Nov 1880. She was born to Mark L. Striclin & Emiline Davis 1 April 1854 in Saline, IL.. She died 23 Jan 1883 in Holbrook, Navajo, AZ.

My mother was born 27 July 1910 and died Mar. 11, 2007 in Springfield, IL. She remembers getting packages at Christmas from Uncle Charlie - things like buffalo rugs and Indian blankets. She said they had Indian Blankets covering all their chairs when she grew up.

Her father, Ace Lloyd Frederick was encouraged by Uncle Charlie to join supposedly the longest cattle drive in the U.S. He spent the summer as a young man driving cattle from Kansas City, MO to Santa Fe, NM. He never talked about it. He did call my grandmother after he got back and she told me she was dressed in a high collared blouse and a long skirt and rode the trolley from her house out in the country to Dodd's Drug Store at 5th and Monroe in Springfield, IL to meet my grandfather. When she got there, he was in full cowboy regalia and it embarrassed her to death.

I just ckecked back and found that yesterday's post did not go through. I said that Jemima Pirie was my grandfather's half-sister. What I am trying to confirm is her birthdate. Anything that I find on the internet does not match up with our family records. In her marriage record on Ancestry the name of her mother is not the name we have in our records. Any documented records like her death certificate would be helpful.
These people were my husbands great grandparents. What do you need I can try to answer your questions. I have a lot of information on the Cleghorn, Pirie's from the Candadian relatives. The Wickham side is a little more trouble as George Elde Wickham jumped ship and then enlisted in the calavery in Chicago as a teamster and was sent to Ft. Windgate, NM. I do have his enlistment papers and the English census that shows him in England as a lad.

Anne Veasey

Regarding James Marlow (Merlo)

Jim was my uncle by marriage. He was married a first time to Mary Bartoni. They had one daughter, Johanna. This information came from another Ancestry member. Jim married my aunt, Margaret Helen Hanley, about 1952 in East St. Louis, IL. They were later divorced, in the 1960's in Collinsville, Madison County, IL. Jim worked in the office at the Aluminum Ore Company in East St. Louis, IL, where he met my aunt (unfortunately). He came to all our family gatherings and I will see if someone has pictures of him. I do have some in movie films. Jim and Helen never had children.

I think there is an error in this. Filipina's sister mary died before she was married. I believe this may be a sister in law.

Hello,

I am looking a newspaper article on a car wreck that happened in 1959.

This is what I have:

William Hamblin and his wife were coming back from California to Missouri. There was a car wreck in Gallup, William was killed and his wife was seriously injured. The date of the accident would either Oct 3 or 4 1959.

Look forward from hearing from someone soon

Thank you

Joe Kery
