Judy, this is Cleave Buchanan again. I just came across this post. Do you think this Thomas Jefferson Crow? I have our Tom Crow and Sarah residing in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory in the 1900 Census.
By the way, you and Carl Crow convinced me we have no Native American Indian blood in our Crow line. All of my cousins are having a hard time giving up our Indian Blood. In fact, one of my cousins who is now around 70 clearly remembers having a conversation with Addie Mae Crow Coffey, our Grandma Coffey, talking about this.
Grandma Coffey told her that her father Tom Crow was an Indian passing for white and that angered the other Indians who came and killed him. She said she was hiding in the woods when they came and killed him and saw the whole thing.
This is why family stories are sometimes not reliable. I told my cousin I thought Grandma Coffey was embelishing the story a bit. It was clearly her Grandfather, not her father who was killed by the Indians. I think Grandma Coffey thought it made a better story for us to be Indians and for her to have seen the Indian attack.
