Pedro Telles of Sabinal, NM

Pedro Telles was born 20 Jan 1864 in Sabinal, New Mexico and about the same time my great grandfather Pedro Torres was born during the same period and place. Pedro Torres' records will continue but Pedro Telles' records are not found. My question, is Pedro Telles and Pedro Torres the same person? My Pedro Torres was actually a Taylor but a captive by Indians, later he was adopted by a Torres family or maybe even by a Telles family also. I would like a look up on death records of the Belen or Sabinal area to check if Pedro Telles died, thank you and take care, Felix Torres Jr.

hmmmmmmm.... well I believe we are related. I believe Bartalo (the 1 month old) Jose Bartalo Garcia is my 3 grandfather. The records I was given has his birth in 1787 in Mexico City and death 1823 in Del Rio, Tx... His mother was Ana Maria Gregotia Chavez an father was (my 4th grandfather) Pedro Antonio Garcia.
Bartalo's son Luciano is my Great Grandfather and I would love to find anything I can about him and my great grandmother SImona. I have amazing stories about my great grandfather Luciano and would love to trace my family. If it is not too much trouble is there a way I can confirm some birth and death dates with you?

Hi Sherry, it's me Tania Martinez. I visited Felicitas' gravesite in Mojave California. Just 2 headstones over is the grave of my grandpa Robert "Mark" Delmar.

I visited the office of the Valencia Co. News-Bulletin today (Dec. 13, 2012). This is info and the full text of her obituary:

From Valencia County News-Bulletin, April 16/17, 1997; page 7A

Verbatim text:

Dorothea J. Schafer
Dorothea J. Schafer, 74, a resident of Los Lunas, died on Monday, April 14.

Dorothea attended the Assembly of God Church of Belen. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 99, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veteran’s [sic] of Foreign Wars Post 401. She enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, prospecting, and was an avid outdoors woman.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Chapman and her sister, Mary Lou Johnson.

Dorothea is survived by her husband Marvin, of the family home in Los Lunas; daughter, Jeanne Dill of Wichita, Kan. and grandson, Jeffrey Albert Dill. Also surviving is her brother, George Chapman of Phoenix, Ariz.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at Romero Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Burchfield officiating.

Romero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I am Andy from the Netherlands.
My boys and I we adopted 5 graves of soldiers who died in ww2.
We take care of their graves and go there every week to bring flowers etc.
I started a website www.remember-our-heroes.nl its also in English, about these boys, they were all crew members of a B-17, and my interest was getting bigger and bigger, now I am writing or try to write a story of all the boys they flew with and also unfortunately, died.

I am looking for a picture or any contact with people who can tell me about :

These boys are falling BUT, should never be forgotten, thats my aim

In 1930 Filomeno Baca was living with his family in Madrid, Santa Fe,. New Mexico. You already know this but he was six and you can't assume he was born there. He MIGHT have been born there.

In 1940 he was living in Madrid with his family.

Teresa, wife, b.NM, 38.
Filomena, dau [how appears on Census], b.NM, 16.
Felix, b. NM, 15.

The family was living in the same place in 1935.

The 1940 Census is the most recent.

In 1940 Grace was living in Cubero, Valencia, NM.

Chisanta Duran, b. NM, 46, divorced, teacher public school.
Grace Margret Padilla, b. NM, 13.

Their full names as far as I know were Filomeno Baca and Grace M. Padilla. Grace was born in 1927 in (if I'm correct) Valencia, New Mexico, and Filomeno was born in 1924 in Madrid, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The known census I have found for Grace is the 1930 Census where she is living with her mother (Crisanta Duran) and her grandparents (Claudio Patrick Duran and Maria Gregoria Gallegos).

Hi,
A person should start with what they know. For example, what information do you know about your grandparents? Their full names, when and where they were born? Or when and where they died. Then hopefully you can find a Census where the great grandparents are living with the grandparents and you'll know you have the correct family.

If you have any of that info, I'll try to find them.

Hello, I'm looking for information on my great-gradparents, Philomeno Baca and Grace Padilla. I found an try in the 1930 census for Valencia County, NM that has a Grace M. Padilla listed as 3 years old. If that is my great-grandmother, then she would have been born in 1926 or 1927. Although I can't find any information on my great-grandfather in the New Mexico records for 1930. He may not have been born in New Mexico. I would love some information on my great-grandfather and futher information on my great-grandmother.

I found the find a grave info on Lauriano....I will look on the AZ site.....I thought she might be Reyes, but not sure.....I appreciate the DOD for Emilio, now if I can just find his correct sent of parents....I am pretty sure his father was Jesus, his mther Placidia(?) but I need to find some sources other than census as there was more than one Jesus Aragon in Valencia County....at that time. To consider:
Handwriting and language barriers doing what they do to NM records, most likely the second wife of Emilio was Reyes.
NM deaths on familysearch.org gives an Emilio Aragon,born 1867, died July 9,1944 in Gallup,McKinley,NM-wife Reyes.
If you are not aware of it, AZ births/deaths online here:
http://genealogy.az.gov/
You will find deaths of Mrs.Aragon-badly indexed as "Felamina Ramirez Argon",her sons Carlos and Benito; and births for children of Benito and Lucy Morales.
There is also a memorial to Lauriano Aragon on findagrave.com which has his obituary.

Hi Sandy,
I have sent you some details off list but I believe Placida's maiden name was CHAVES.
I found this out on an ancestry.co.uk search of the personal family trees. If you have access to ancestry.com you should also be able to see this information if you lookup the LARGE Family tree. Or, do a search on Jesus ARAGON and look in the Family Trees filter. You should then find what I found and have the details you require.
I think Placida's parents names were Ignacio CHAVES and Gertrudis CHAVES.
Jesus ARAGON's parents are Juan Agustin ARAGON and Ana Maria SENA.
It looks like Jesus was married previously. This info' is on the email I sent you.

I am looking for a Manuel Abeita born about 1812. His daughter's name is Barbarita (Barbara) Abeyta born 1835.
And a son named
Jose Dolores born 1850
married Maria Manuela Duran
child Maria Nieves
Manuel & Barbara were in a 1850 census in Socorro, Valencia. I can not find anything on him other that this. I know they moved to Abiquiu NM & Canjilon NM. That is were Barbara married Jose Antonio Maria Martin(ez)b:1830.

We lived in the Bosque Farms community in 1951 and 1952. Those years I attended first and second grades at Bosque Farms Elementary School. I'm looking for copies of any photos of the school, churches and community in general during that time. We rented a small house owned by the Cumiford family who lived nearby. Heavy Oil in Virgin Field

Most Promising New Oil District in Entire Southwest – Great Boom in the Making

Strong Operators Show Faith in Great Oil Fields of Valencia

Geologists of International repute have placed their stamp of approval on the oil fields of Valencia, this being conclusively evidenced by the recent acquisition of an enormous acreage, 400,000 acres, by the Carter Oil Co., a producing subsidiary of Standard Oil, and any business man must know that the geologist reports were extremely favorable before Standard Oil would go to an enormous initial expense in taking over so vast an estate, requiring the expenditure of more than $1,000,000 to develop it, yet the thorough exploitation of this field is in sight.
Belen business men examined this district very carefully three months before Standard Oil entered the field and of course they selected the richest and most promising oil lands.
These people located several thousand acres and there is a good automobile road right to the property.
This is by long odds the most promising virgin field in the entire southwest and practical oil men say there is every geological indication that the production will be heavy black oil, such as there is an unlimited demand for.
Among those now actively identified with this wonderful virgin field are Jas. F. Clarke, cashier A.T. & S.F. railroad, H. E. Wetmore, manager Belen Auto Co., F. C. H. Lingston, attorney, Paul B. Dalies, director First National Bank, M. W. Musgrove oil operator, and J. R. Gaunt, cashier Reserve State Bank, and R. H. Tompkins and J. J. Wegs contractors.
Sam Warmbath, a prominent operator and Harry Woods who helped to make Cripple Creek famous, were recently in the field from Los Angeles.
There are enormous dikes of yellow sandstone, strong coal veins, and from a well being sunk for water, at a depth of 248 feet, every bucket of Water raised to the surface showed nearly a QUART OF HEAVY BLACK OIL.

Standard Oil and Texas Company, two strongest oil corporations in World, will Exploit Valencia’s Rich Field

The Strong Eastern Oil Corporations interested in the great oil fields of Western Valencia County, means the active development of this promising virgin field.
The Carter Oil Co., a producing subsidiary of Standard Oil, recently took a lease of 400,000 acres from McKinley Land & Lumber Co., in western Valencia and Eastern McKinley counties, New Mexico, and now the Texas Company, a strong competitor of Standard Oil, is interested in this section with the understanding that a plan of aggressive development is contemplated.
There are great massive dikes of unbroken sandstone; wonderful coal veins stand up prominently on the surface; oil shale and oil sand are in evidence; the structure is well defined, and from a well being sunk for water nearly a QUART OF HEAVY BLACK OIL was taken from a bucket of water, which is the best showing ever made at a depth of 248 feet.
Belen business men recognized the ….. of this field and they became interested three months before the Standard Oil got into the field and of course the Belen men took the most promising oil lands in the entire field.

you are in my husbands family line of Nicholas Holguin. They come from Chih. Mexico. I have the names of Nicholas mom and dad but cant find any info on them. Still researching . Its a very interesting project to do.

I've been browsing the 1880 census for Valencia and I came across a "district not stated" section that has 26 pages of names of people from all around the world. Anyone have any idea what this is about? Railroad construction crews?

I located and printed off (from microfilm) from the Valencia County News-Bulletin, the obituaries of Bill Stone (obit. Feb. 3, 1969, died Feb. 1) and Dorothy Stone (obit. June 15, 1978, died the preceding Saturday).

I can either mail them to you or transcribe them and put them in a reply to your message.

I looked at the microfilm file at the Univ. of New Mexico Valencia Campus library, which has all issues of the Valencia Co. News-Bulletin going back to 1913. I found the obituary for Ava Tiley on page 2 of Nov. 22, 1979 (Valencia County) News-Bulletin:

Ava Tiley
Ava Tiley, a resident of Los Lunas since 1937, died Tuesday in an Albuquerque hospital. She was 66.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the gravesite in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mrs. Tiley is survived by one daughter, Debbie Ridley, of Los Lunas; four sons, Roy Tiley, of Salt Lake City, Wesley Tiley and Wayne Lemon, both of Albuquerque, and Lowell Lemon, of Mountainview, Ark.; three sisters, Delora Turner and Dela Stapleton, both of Tivis, Va., and Aloha Mullins, of Clintwood, Va.; two brothers, Ersel Edwards, of Los Lunas, and Narvin Edwards, of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Tiley, Shane Lemon, Jeff Edwards, Larry Edwards, Scott Tiley and Larry Tiley.
Strong Thorne Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

I looked in the next two issues of the paper (published only twice a week) for any follow up notices or memorials but did not see any.
I have hard copies of the obituary, printed off microfilm, if you want them.

I am trying to help a friend find information regarding her grandmother,Sofia Maria Garcia Peralta.
Sofia Maria Garcia Peralta was born about 19-December,1895 or 1896 in Peralta-Valencia County,New Mexico.She died about 21-September,1989 at about age ninety-two.
Sofia Maria Garcia Peralta was daughter of Juan Peralta and Faustina Garcia.
Juan Peralta was son of Bartolo Peralta and Maria Otero.
Sofia Maria Garcia Peralta attended a convent school in Bernalillo,New Mexico.
The family may have been of Native American extraction.
Family legend has it that the family could see the Apaches riding near their ranch,but were never bothered because they were Apache themselves.
Another family legend has it that Sofia Maria Garcia Peralta was an aunt of Geronimo.

I believe I am a cousin. My Great Grandmother was Beatrice Holguin B. 1881. My G-Greats were Ramona (or Romana)Calles and Nicoles Holguin(Olguin) and I believe my G-G-Greats were Manuel Calles and Rosalia Maldonado. My Grandmother's name was Aurora Jaquez Montoya. My Grand mother was born in El Paso, Texas in 1902.
Any info you may have found since 2003 and would like to share would be great.
