I know a lady who lives in Cattaraugus County, NY and does a lot of research there, and in Wyoming County.
She does get to a large library from time to time, where she can look up obits, but it might be a while before she can get to that library for you.
If you want me to give you her contact information (name and email address) please give me your email address and I will send you her information privately. As someone else suggested, you might want to write a letter to the public library in the town that he died, and include a few dollars for someone's time to look up the obit.
