Davis as the name of the third son is a transcription error. The census actually reads Darus. His name was Darius B Lord (NY 1892 census), or a variety of other spellings, including Drieaus Lord (1918 WWI draft registration). In the 1920 census, he is listed as Dry Lord, with his second wife Emma and mother Augusta. His first wife was Bessie Spencer and his second wife was Emma Lehrman, who had previously been married to John Skuse and Roswell Daggett. Emma's obituary in the Olean Evening Times is headlined "Mrs. Dryfuss Lord." In his mother's obituary, also from the Olean Evening Times, he is called Derias Lord, and was living at the Five Mile, near Allegany, Cattaraugus Co, NY.

I am Judy's cousin (my mother was a Wright). I'd just like to add that we have done a Y chromosome DNA test for this Wright line. If any of you have a male who still carries the Wright surname and goes back to Zebulon (or other Wrights in the county), a DNA test would be a way to confirm whether there's a connection between the families.

For discussion: My Wright family was also in Allegany Co., NY in the early 1800's: John Wright, his son James.

1820 Alfred census-John Wright(do not know if this is mine).
John was in Union Co., PA in 1811 (per birth of son John). James m. Keziah Casterline. After her death he married Hulda Kenney about 1834. He is listed on the 1830 Haight census. One male (60-70) was with him. Probably father John.

In the Allegany County history there is stated that James and William Wright were early settlers. Are these sons of John? Records state he had son William.

James and Hulda died in 1850. John is found on census with grandsons and Matilda Ives. Is she related?

Any help or discussion would be appreciated.

Thanks, Julia (Judy) Joaquin

Do you know James C. Wright's parents? I have Casterlines in NJ. I am assuming that Casterline was his mother's maiden name. One branch were in Seneca Co., NY then on to Allegany Co., NY. Somehow our families could be connected. Have you done any Casterline research?

Judy

The Zebulon Wright mentioned in the Minard book is my Zebulon Wright. His son Amos was my husband's great great grandfather. I do not know of a Belinda. The children I show of Zebulon's were: Gilbert, William Russell, John, Dorcas, Nancy, Elizabeth, Rosetta, Samuel, Amos, George, Anella, David. It is possible I suppose Belinda could have been a middle name of one of the girls but I have no middle initials to show either. Does this help?
Florence

I have found in the book "Centennial History of the Town of Nunda" John Griffith listed as an assessor at a town meeting held 4/4/1809. Also found he was elected the town clerk in 1810. On April 7,1812 it states that John Griffith (Rev M.E.C.) was elected supervisor. He is also listed on another page as living in the district but no location was given.

Hope this is helpful too.

Florence Wright
This woman also lived in Allegany County, Burns, NY for a while so am submitting this to both Steuben and Allegany Boards for any help:

Am looking for the obit or any death record information on a Harriet Dunning who died 4/27/1898 in Freemont, NY. She is buried in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dansville, NY with her second husband whose name was John Gray. I am most interested in the CAUSE OF HER DEATH for a story I am writing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried the NY State Health Dept for a death record from the genealogy unit and they could find none. Arkport Clerk claims they had poor records back than also. The little I do know about this woman is as follows:

born Harriet Sylvia Hitchcock 9/26/1827 Richfield, NY
married: 1. Horace Elisha Mack
2. John Gray
3. Humphrey Dunning.

We connect with Humphrey Dunning. Would be so important to my book to find the cause of her death.

The family stories we have as written by a daughter of Amos, son of Zebulon is that Zebulon came to Almond in 1818. It was at that time Alfred actually and he settled about what would be the line of Almond and Alfred today. He was there for the rest of his life and died in 1859. I have always felt there are other Wrights related to Zebulon who may have come with him (siblings perhaps) because the story goes there was a group who came. If you know of any other Wrights who came into that area around that time I would be most interested. Zebulon's father is said to be a Luke Wright and that is my brick wall in finding him.

Florence
