Matt --Don Pedro was living in Cayuga county NY and possibly moved west to Ohio - My ancesters were Jerimiah N Whelpley who were in Watertown NY as a Universalist minister 1833 - moved to Sebena Michigan with his wife Suzanna Twining both burried in cemetary Grand Ledge Michigan - clue : family's possibally knew each other from Provencetown Mass ie: Whelpley St and Twining road - The name Horton is familiar in my investigations. Check the Ohio whelpleys as the familys traveled in groups - but I cannot remember I saw Horton or "Polly" where. The site heartland site is no longer active as it was maintained by Brenda Whelply (different spelling same family)- I was abnle to activate the site breifly with using "wayback" device for old sites - If I can help in any way - I am at wdive@aol.com Glen Whelpley

Any luck finding records on either of these families? I have yet to prove that the maiden name of Benjamin Horton's wife was Whelpley or that her parents were Henry Whelpley and Mary Galpin. Do you have any documentation of her origin?

Hello Glen,

I am descended from a Benjamin Horton who married a Mary "Polly" [--?--]. Bob Hegerich's web tree (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...) lists her as the daughter of Henry Whelpley and Mary Galpin and sister of Don Pedro Whelpley.

While Benjamin Horton moves from Berkshire Co., MA to Tioga Co., NY to Cayuga Co., NY to Ashtabula Co., OH with a Whelpley as his neighbor in every census, I have found no document which proves the maiden name for Mary "Polly" or further that her father is Henry Whelpley.

Any information you can share on this family would be greatly appreciated and I would be happy to return the favor.

I was able to visit the cemetery during the summer of 2012. I don't know who cleared the cemetery, but it must have been a tremendous amount of very hard work, and I'm grateful

The underbrush was cleared from the Tuppers Corners Cemetery in the summer of 2012 & there are 2 Wallis gravestones.

#1. In memory of ROBERT WALLIS, who departed this life July 17. 1829 in the 70 year of his age.

#2. In memory of MARY wife of Robert Wallis who departed this life April 19th 1810 aged 49 years.

They also had five sons

John Hayden died in Rochester 1912 born 1830
Ephriam Hayden died in Lacrosse wisconson 1899 born 1828
Parker Hayden died in lysander or west phoenix 1892 born 1816
Leonard Hayden still cant find when he died. born 1814

Thank you for your message. After a time period, I googled her name, and found a message about her death. She had asked me a question, and was one of the few people who asked me a question I could answer 'yes' to - and then I realized she couldn't share that with me. I have no idea why I never received a "you have a message" email when she sent it; I only came across it years later.

You may have already learned this, but sadly I must report that earlier messages on this board tell me that Laura Cowan Cooper passed away -- apparently in 2009.

I too have recently attempted to contact her.

Another Cowan genealogist is Terry Cowan. I do not know if he is still active.

yes there are and www.fultonhistory.com an excellent and free source (u can send a donation if u want) however, obits not as common then for women and ordinary people- often just a one-liner, eg-mrs lemuel Copeland died Friday last at home.if u know the town she died in, contact the town clerk. also, if u know her church, sometimes recorded there. meanwhile, fultonhistory has-in the december auburn ny argus-year unestablished, but if u play with it, u could poss find the previous or next pg-

Hi, I am trying to locate an obituary for Eliza Copeland (nee Morton), born in Maine on October 9, 1812 and who died in Cayuga County, New York on June 2, 1894. She was the wife of Lemuel Copeland and both of them are buried in Fort Hill Cemetery along with daughters- Theodosia, Eliza Virginia, and Flora. Are there any newspapers for Cayuga County, that date back that far? Further, do death certificates go back that far in Cayuga County, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm trying to locate a grave for my 4th great grandmother Melinda/belinda Symonds/Simons Hayden and my grandfather Miles Hayden they definitely died in cayuga county probably in Summer Hill or Sempronious. I just recently found their daughter in a cemetery called Dresserville. she died on march 30, 1868 which could have possibly been very close to her fathers death.

belinda died between the year of 1850 to 1855
miles died after 1865 living with his daughter the last time seen on a census.

can any give me some tips or how i could find this?

I came across your posting from 1999. I have been trying to find data that would prove that Eliakim was the son of Nathaniel Eaton b1772 and wife Ann Cronk 1760. I am currently trying to locate an obituary or other document to substantiate this relationship.

My grand mother was an Eaton, born in Ludington. She was the daughter of Albert Murray Eaton.

Searching for Parents of Samuel Dustin Lockwood

My 2nd great grandfather was Samuel Dustin Lockwood. He was born 1 Feb 1817. His obituary states that he was born in Rensselaer County, New York but does not have his parents' names. However, many families on Ancestry and other sources state that he was born in Victory, Cayuga County, New York, to Homer and Sarah Benedict Lockwood. I cannot find Samuel in Rensselaer County. A professional genealogist who specializes in Rensselaer County was unable to locate records for him.

Therefore I am trying to find proof of who his parents were.

1865 census Miles Hayden and son Carleton are still living in Sempronius,Cayuga. Says Miles is 79,was born in Conn.
Children were born in Onondaga.

They are living with Miles daughter AMANDA and husband & children.

My last known relative is Stephen Bailey (1851-1902) who lived in Albion in 1880 and died in Throopsville. He married Alice Van Aken in 1876-not sure where. They had at least the following children:

Ora Bailey 1888-?

I have Stephen's mother as Alma which I'm assuming is short for something else-I have no last name. I do not have Stephen's father's name. I've ordered and received Stephen's death certificate but both of his parents information was left blank. Any information on this family would be appreciated.

I was hoping someone can help my fourth great grandfather Miles Hayden seemed to have lived to his end in Cayuga County he lived in semphorious, summerhill the last two census records i could find were in 1850 and 1860 he had 4 sons and 1 daughter for all i can see. John S. Hayden, Carlton Hayden, Ephraim W. Hayden, Parker W Hayden my 3 great grandfather, and Leonard Hayden, lastly Julia Hayden.

I can't seem to find where he died or when. want to know if someone can help thanks a cemetery would be nice. maybe there will be a death record hopefully.

One of the problems is that there are two Mathew Gibbs families. Wives are Emelie and Amelia. Can't fault earlier genealogists for comingling the families.

In both families the father's name is spelled Mathew.

Family One: Mathew Gibbs, spouse Emelie Lewis, married 20 March 1865 in Mottvilee, Onondaga, New York, USA, children Stella, Alice, Philo, Eva, and Lester; came from Wedmore, Somerset, England, eventually settled in Auburn, Cayuga, New York. Mathew born 18 December 1839 and christened 16 January 1840 in Wedmore, Somerset, England, and died 1 May 1911 and buried 3 May 1911 in Soule Cemetery, Auburn, New York, USA. Emelie born 19 August 1847, Wedmore, Somerset, England, died 11 November 1924, Auburn, Cayuga, New York, buried in same cemetery.

Family Two: Mathew Gibbs, born about 1840 in England. Spouse Amelia. Lived in Cedar Fort and Alpine, Utah County, Utah. Children: Florence, Sidney, Eva, Lillie born in England and Beatrice born in Utah. Seem to have come to America between Lillie's 1874 birth in England and Beatrice's 1876 birth in Utah. Beatrice's 1876 birth in Utah supposes mother Amelia came with them to Utah. See 1880 Utah Census, Alpine, Utah, Utah for Mathew Gibbs and children.

Cemetaries do not keep death certs.
They only record the date of internment; not the date of death.

For a death cert order the cert "directly" from the county of death clerks office.

On the 1875 Census for New York State Isabelle is listed with Jerry and Eliza Burns in Ward 3 Auburn New York.

On the 1880 census Jeremiah and Eliza are listed on 97 Orchard Street in Auburn

SIAP--I'm looking for George's parentage. Isabelle died in one of the boroughs of NYC (possibly Bronx).

George, as family lore has it, died somewhere in California.I located him in Santa Monica in a city directory. The death record that you found (03/04/1916)would put him Abt. 16 yrs. old when he was married (1878). Also,if lore is correct (i.e. he died in CA), someone would have had to get him home. How would I go about obtaining a death certificate? Would Fort Hill Cemetary have the certificates, or are they filed elsewhere?

Thank you for noticing my error. My maternal grandfather did in fact die in 1946. My uncle Norbert died in 1956. How can I access the City of Auburn directories for this time period? If I can determine what street she lived on pre-marriage, perhaps I can pin down the parish church associated with that address. That would most likely be the parish that she and George,Sr. were married in. Hopefully, the marriage certificate will contain the names of George's
parents. Your thoughts?

I see baptism record for 6 Oct 1878 in the St.Mary's Church. The godparents were James and Margaret Burns.

But I do not see a marriage record in the microfilm for St. Mary's for George Jones or Isabella Burns or Byrnes.

Notice that I did not answer your ? regarding the place of Isabel's (Isabelle or Isabella?)death. I suspect that New York City was her death city. I do know that she died a Williamson.

I haven't been able to tease any facts about my g-grandfather's death location or year. Family lore says California. I have,in fact,traced him to Santa Monica. But beyond that,nothing. Health permitting,I intend on going to Auburn,NY this summer. I want to go through the records of St. Mary's and see if I can find a marriage certificate for George Akin Jones and Isabell Burns. I don't speak Latin, but the parish secretary thinks that she might be able to bumble through the translation. While they baptized their first son at St. Mary's, they may have been married in another Auburn church. We'll see. All this to tease out the names of his parents (George Akin Jones,Sr.). I'm guessing that a William Cornelius Jones is the father,but I don't have one shred of proof. Thanks for your info.I really appreciate your assistance. John

I was looking at your tree and I see where you have George Akin Jones, jr dying in 1955.

I found two sources where he died on 16 Aug 1946 in Panama and was buried on 18 Aug 1946 in Corozal

The age was 67

If you want these records let me know.
