I have some information about Emma Smith. She is listed as the wife of William Dalton Austin (who descends from the Robert Austin of North Kingstown RI line of Austins) on p. 282 of A Genealogy of the Descendants of Robert Austin of Kingstown, R.I., by Edith Austin Moore.
And in the 1880 Census she is listed as widowed with William Dalton Austin having died on September 1, 1877 in Waterford, Erie, Pennsylvania.
I found an Emma Smith in the 1870 who more than likely matches: She is listed as 15, born in Wisconsin and living with a Soloman (age 42) and Aurelia (?) (age 32) Harvey along with their son Percy (age 7). The relationship is not listed but simply "at school."
To make sure this was the sam Emma Smith, I looked up Soloman Harvey in the 1880 census and sure enough, he had moved to Waterford, Erie, Pennsylvania and was living, as a widower, with his son Percy, age 17.
It is likely that Soloman Harvey's wife (listed as Aurelia or Amasillia) could have been either Emma's sister (thus a Smith) or an aunt.
