BRADENTON, Fla. - Henry A. Bak, 77, of Bradenton, formerly of Fizell Avenue, Dunkirk, died Wednesday evening (June 1, 2005) in the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo after an extended illness.
He was born in Dunkirk on June 4, 1927, the son of the late Andrew and Anna Bak.
Mr. Bak served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 on the USS Wisconsin.
A Dunkirk resident for all of his life prior to moving to Bradenton in 1992, he was a career fireman for the City of Dunkirk Fire Department, retiring Feb. 14, 1990.
He had been a member of St. Hyacinth's Church in Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Martyrs Church in Bradenton, First Ward Falcon Club and the Firefighters Union Local 616.
Surviving are his wife, Loretta (Pawlak) Bak, whom he married May 5, 1951; two sons, Robert Bak of Webster and David Bak of Dunkirk; a daughter, Cheryl Gawronski of Dunkirk; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Bak; and three sisters, Helen Zientowski, Mary Stuczynski and ***Victoria Lis.

Arrangements are by the Newman Funeral Home Inc., Dunkirk.
