My great great uncle, had apparently settled in Silver Creek ...his name was (originally) Luigi DiLorenzo. changed it Louis DiLorenzo...may have from there changed it to Louis Lorenzo or Louis Lawrence. His wife was named Vera. i've been looking for their 1930 census with no luck...except when i had briefly cancelled my ancestry subscription...then it came up...but i wasn't allowed to actually see it nor attach it to anythin. now i'm down right frustrated!! if anyone can help me with this, i'd be appreciative. if anyone can get a hard link to the 1930 Silver Creek Census...i'd appreciate it!!

Fredonia Obit Lookups Please

I would sincerely appreciate obituary lookups in the Fredonia, or other appropriate newspaper for:

Minnie L (Bernett) Walpole Ruge Brown WREN, died March 26, 1931 (age 63); and her daughter, Florence (Walpole) FARLEY, died Sep 11, 1913 (age 28)

Both are buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia, NY. From the online Dunkirk [NY] Evening Observer of Apr 4, 1931 “Fluker Hill and Wango—Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bernett and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mearl Perkins, and Mrs. Thomas Bernett of Morgantown, West Virginia, were in Fredonia Saturday to attend the funeral of Mr. Bernett’s sister, Mrs. John Wren of Buffalo.” Minnie may have had other husbands.

I was unable to find any other reference to Minnie’s death in the Dunkirk Evening Observer, although searching by date was impossible and all issues for that time period may not be online. I found nothing for Florence. Thank you for any assistance,

Diana Shepard
Independence, MO
ShepardDi@aol.com

I have quite a few Polish immigrant families that I'm working on in the Dunkirk/Pomfret area who immigrated between 1871 and 1900, and I think this would be a big help.
Would these records indicate the town and date of birth?

Thanks,
Dan

Seeking information on Roy Olaf Olson who died August 1945 in Jamestown, Chautauqua Co., NY. Roy was the first husband (married 16 Aug 1922 in Jamestown) of Florine Ruth Anderson (born 23 May 1905 in Jamestown), daughter of Eric C. Anderson (married 28 Sep 1899 in Jamestown) and Elizabeth Moynihan (my paternal grandmother’s youngest sister). Florine’s second husband was a Mr. Fisher who died years ago.

Roy & Florine had five children (information gathered mid-1990s):
(1) Barbara Lou (Olson) Swanson, w/o Donald Clifford Swanson, they have 6 ch., last update 25aug95
(2) Kathleen Elizabeth (Olson) Carlson, w/o Carl Richard Carlson, they have 3 ch., last update 25aug95
(3) Mary Margaret (Olson) Hines, w/o Herbert Hines, they have 3 ch., last update 10sep95
(4) Richard Eric Olson, wife Judith Mary (Baker), they have 2 ch., last update 25aug95
(5) Suzanne (Olson) McMurtry, w/o Everett Luplow McMurtry, they have 3 ch., last update 25aug95

I would like to know who Roy’s parents and siblings were, the Olsons are a difficult lot to sort out, especially in Jamestown (The Olson Capital of North America).

I located Florine Fisher in the Social Security database, her dob matches, however her dod was left blank, SS res/o Winchester, VA 22602 threw me off until I realized that her eldest McMurtry grandson resided there (1995). Would someone please send me Florine’s date of death, possibly her obituary, thanks.

I only recently began using ancestry.com and have been on line only since September.

Looking for information on a family of Root men that settled around Lake Chautauqua, County NY. I understand that the brothers Elisha, Jeromia, and Joshua lived in Chautauqua County and were dairy men. Their brother Emor Root, b. 1806 is my ancestor, and he is listed as being born in NY. His first three children were also born in NY, their names were William "Frank", b.1834; Julia, b. 1836; Edward B. b.1838. I do not know the name of Emor's first wife, but she died after Edward was born and Emor migrates into Crawford Co, PA. Remarries (2) Nancy Kerr, b. 1806, PA, children: Jane b. 1842; Harriet b. 1844; Andrew "K." b. 1849. Last 3 born PA. I would appreciate any information on these people.
Lakeview Cemetery Look Up

Hi there! I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before.

Back in...2006 (I think!) I went back to New York to visit family. While there we went to Lakeview to find the gravesites of my grandparents. I wanted pictures of them.
Well, I found my grandma Alice Lyon, with no problem.
But 2 of my aunts, my best friend, and myself, searched everywhere for my great grandparents, but we could not find them.
According to the guy at the office, they were supposed to be located on top of a hill. We searched for over an hour and could not find them.

So, if anyone happens to be going there, or enjoys searching for grave site, could you please try to find them for me?

Gladys A. Watson
Died: October 11, 1959

Clinton H. Watson
Died: September 26, 1980

They are supposed to be buried together/next to eachother, and it's supposed to be on a hill.
I realize that Lakeview is a very large cemetery, so I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

(I'm also going to do a Find a Grave request.)

I have been trying to obtain the records from St Mary's Orphan Asylum in Dunkirk NY. So far I have contacted the Buffalo Diocese, Catholic Charities and St Elizabeth Ann Seton. They are all claiming that they do not have these records and refer me back and forth to one another. I don't live in the vicinity of NY, and was hoping that someone can possibly open an avenue that I have not tried. I'm at a complete loss and feeling as though I'm losing my mind! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Abraham Konings (King) Family, Holland to Clymer, Chautauqua County

Abraham Konings, born 22 January 1793 in Woold, Winterswijk, Gelderland, The Netherlands, son of Jan Konings and Enneken ten Damme, married in Winterswijk on 18 May 1825 with Hinders/Henders Nijenhuis, born 6 January 1800, daughter of Jan Nijenhuis & Enneken te Kulve. Abraham and Hinders and their children came to America in 1846 aboard the ship "Caledonia," which reached port in New York City on 21 July 1846. The family came to Chautauqua County and settled in Clymer and French Creek. Here the family name was changed from Konings to King. Abraham died 12 September 1871; Hinders (known here as Henrietta) died 29 June 1878. Both died in Clymer and are buried in the Clymer Hill Cemetery.

Their children, all born in Winterswijk, were Berendina (Delia), b.29 October 1825, married Henry Cady; Jan Willem (John), b.13 Feb 1828, married Aleida Willemina Mensink; Gerrit Jan, b.6 April 1830, married Willemina Mensink; Derk (Derrick), b.28 January 1834, married Frederika (Fanny) Hesselink; Elizabeth (Betty), b.30 January 1836, married Nathan P. Wilbur; Jan Hendrik, b.26 November 1838, married (1)Polly Farnsworth and (2) Percis Barlow Baker; Wessel (Westley/Wesley), b.25 January 1841, married Alta Wilbur.

With the exception of Elizabeth and Wessel, the children remained in the Clymer-French Creek area. Wessel moved to Minnesota and later to Wisconsin. Where Elizabeth went is unknown to me. There are several sites on the internet that record Derk marrying and living in Holland, Sheboygan County, WI, but they are incorrect.

(From records of Winterswijk genealogist Dr. Das, census, cemetery, church and family)

I am looking for any information on Elias JOHNSON of Pomfret (Fredonia), Chautauqua County. He was born in 1797 in Chenango Co., N.Y., married Beulah B. BUCKINGHAM, and died in Fredonia in 1885. In 1830 he was in Cazenovia, Madison Co., NY, and moved to Pomfret soon after. He had 4 children living with him in 1850: Selena, Eusebia, Corinna, and Dwight. I have traced the three girls, but what happened to Dwight? Was Elias the son of Noel and Mary (WEAVER) JOHNSON of Cazenovia?

Ok...so, my great grandmother is listed with her husband on the 1910 census in dunkirk, she is listed on the 1920 census as a widow, then on the 1930 census as married but her husband is not there, but i think i may have found a 1930 census in ohio for him, and before they came to new york they lived in ohio, where she was born. so it almost makes sense...except that they are not together. Also, where would i find death info from before the Social Security Administration was in place and complied with?
does anyone know how far back death certificates in dunkirk go, and how can i make the clerk's office job easier in hunting in down for me? given all this conflicting info that i have?

Family History event Clark Family of Town of Ellery migrated from Cayuga County Roots

Looking for descendents and interested people who want to share information about the Clark families who settled early in the area of the Town of Ellery and near Jamestown. Names include: Elias Clark, Gilbert Clark, Abijah Clark, Seth Clark. Allied families include: Thumb, Scofield, Ingersol, Snyder, Aldrich. The Clarks began their migration early (ca 1815). They came from the Town of Sprinport, Cayuga County. The progenitor is John Clark (1740-1818); whose son, Ichabod (1766-1844) migrated from Bedford/Pound Ridge in 1791, to Milton, Saratoga County with allied families: Weed, Westcott, Scofield, Lake. Then, in 1800 the Weeds came to Cayuga County with Ichabod going to the town of Springport, Cayuga County in 1809. Shortly after that, Abijah, Elias and Gilbert migrated to Ellery. I am helping to coordinate a Family History event to be held July 23, 24, 25, 2004 in Union Springs, Cayuga County, NY at the Frontenac Museum. I am looking for family, descendents and all interested people who would like to share their family histories.

I am looking for any information on my ancestors. My gr gr grandmother is Christina Erickson (or Sarah Christina) born in 1852, died 1927. Her mother's name was Maria Elizabeth. I don't know her father's name. She had several brothers and sister. She married August Andrew Lawson in aprox 1870. I have the address of the family farm....24 Colfax Street, Jamestown NY. August immigrated from Sweden and once lived in Warren county, PA. His parents also immigrated to PA. I am pretty sure their names were Lars and Christina Simson. I heard that they were staunch Lutherans and may have (either Lars or August?) founded a Lutheran church. Thank You in advance.

Vernon George Blood, Sr. (1891-1961)

Jamestown Post-Journal – March 10, 1961

Lakewood Driver Dies In Accident

Vernon Blood Ruptures Heart Artery

Vernon G. Blood, Sr., 70, retired furniture worker and World War I veteran, was killed at 5:30 P.M. in a two car collision on ice-slickened Fairmount Avenue yesterday, 15 minutes after being involved in another traffic accident on Route 17J.

Coroner Frederick L. Hitchcock issued a verdict of accidental death at 12:10 A.M. today attributing the death of the Cottage Park, Lakewood, resident to a ruptured aorta, the heart’s main blood vessel. The rupture was caused when the crash impact threw him against the steering wheel.

Mr. Blood is Chautauqua County’s first traffic fatality of 1961 and the first since Dec. 8, 1960. The Sheriff’s Department in Mayville said the 91-day interval may be the county’s longest fatality-free period on record.

Town of Ellicott Officer Elmer H. Widlund said Mr. Blood, traveling east on Fairmount Avenue, lost control of his car near Canterbury Road, W.E., skidded into the westbound lane and sideswiped a car driven by Mrs. Alice E. Peterson, 52, of 67 Jackson Avenue, Celeron. He said both drivers were alone.

The Sheriff’s Department said the first accident, in which Mr. Blood was involved occurred about 5:15 P.M. on Route 17J near Howard Street. The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Melvin L. Shannon, 42, R.D. Bentley Avenue, Jamestown.

The Department said Mr. Blood braked to avoid a car turning in front of him and Mr. Shannon’s car; following Mr. Blood’s was unable to stop in time. Only light damage was reported to both vehicles.

Mrs. Peterson, a dietician for the Pennsylvania Gas Company, was discharged from Jamestown General Hospital after six stitches were taken to close a cut on her nose. She was taken to the hospital by the Jamestown Ambulance Service.

Officer Widlund said the impact of the crash threw Mr. Blood against the steering wheel of his car, which landed upright in a ditch on the north side of the road. He said the crash drove Mrs. Peterson’s car backward. Both vehicles were towed away.

Mr. Blood was en route to Jamestown to pick up his daughter, Miss Flossie Blood, an employee of Bigelow’s Department store.

Lakewood Police Officer Michael LaGrega, Jamestown Police Officers Robert Seastedt and Jerome Thompson and a number of Fairmount Avenue and Canterbury Road residents assisted Officer Widlund. He said one of the residents went to his home to secure salt to spread on the highway.

Mr. Blood’s death is the first from traffic causes in Chautauqua County since Dec 8, 1960, when Harold E. Kling, 51 of Jamestown was killed on the Falconer-Stillwater Road. The Sheriff’s Department said it was checking its records but believes the time between deaths is the longest it has on record.

It is the first time in more than five years Chautauqua County has been free of highway motor vehicle fatalities in January and February.

A year ago there were three highway motor vehicle fatalities in January, one in February, and three in March. The fifth fatality last March was March 2; the sixth and seventh were recorded March 14 at Ripley.

Mr. Blood was born in Russell, Pa., Jan 12, 1891, a son of the late Elmer and Bertha Marlett Blood. He spent most of his life in the Jamestown area.

On Sept. 27, 1917, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was discharged Dec 11, 1918.

Always a furniture worker, Mr. Blood was formerly employed the former Elite Furniture Company, of Jamestown.

He resided in Frewsburg area until last summer, when he moved to Cottage Park.

Mr. Blood is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Stone Blood; six other daughters and two sons, Mrs. Harry Rasmussen, of Lakewood; Mrs. Carl Cheney, of Panama; Mrs. Donald Bernhardt, Mrs. Norman Reynolds and Mrs. David Johnson of Frewsburg; Vernon G. Blood, Jr., Fentonville, and Harold L. Blood, Lakewood.

He also is survived by four brothers, Lloyd Blood, of Jamestown; Leonard Blood of Busti; Vertel Blood of Shreveport, La., and Royal Blood of Kennedy, and a sister, Mrs. Crystabelle Hitchcock, of Busti, as well as 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services are in charge of Henderson & Lincoln Funeral Home.
i need help from a few of the experts on here...I'm looking for a record of birth and death for my great great aunt, who died as a toddler...she was born between 1925 and 1927, she died when she was about 2 years old, she had a cleft pallet (so i was told by her sister)...and that's why she died. Her name was Virginia DiLorenzo. Parents were Michael and Elvira DiLorenzo. of course, these people interchangd their names so much...who knows what would be on the records...Michael could have been DiLorenzo, Lorenzo or Lawrence. Elvira could have been, Effie, Evie or Mary! depending on what he was calling her at that point. Virginia was born in the Fredonia/Pomfret Area.

(Age 13) granddaughter.
************
Author’s notations - It is significant to note that documents from this period
were often hand written and subject to interpretation. This is demonstrated
by the Surname of “Groover” Census Record and the gravestone as “Groves”
This also holds true for given names, with Orin A Grover’s 1 enlistment st
papers show a spelling of “Orin”, his 2 enlistment papers show a spelling of nd
“Oran”, but his own handwritten Last Will & Testament clearly shows a
spelling of “Orrin”.
This Document was compiled by the Great Grandson of Orrin A. Grover...
George G. Grover
gg22901@comcast.net

Seeking any further info available
A photograph of an early restaurant was found among some old family photographs from my wife's grandparents. I would guess that it was taken in the early 1900s. It shows a long counter with stools along one side and tables on the other. On the back of the photograph there is a handwritten comment "This was a restraunt [sic] of Dorothy & Bill in Falconer".

Is anyone familiar with a restaurant there that was run by "Dorothy & Bill"?

Thanks.
Karl
