This woman is listed on my great grandmother's birth certificate. I have no birthday or information on her other than she gave birth to my great grandmother Elisabeth Mary Antoine (Bess/Bessie)in 1896 and a son George Antoine in 1894. She was supposedly married to George Antoine born about 1864. She left the family when my great grandmother was a toddler and was never seen again. I have a source in the family that says Delphine remarried and had a daughter Angeline. Please help.

Thank you,

Erica Sanders
I am looking for information on MARY MASON born about 1795 in Clinton County, New York.

I have researched the family of AARON MASON born June 1, 1748, Woburn, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; died July 1837 in Clayton, Jefferson County, New York.

He married first LYDIA ALDRICH who died in Clinton County about 1795.

He married second CHLOE BAKER who died 1813 - presumably in Clinton County.

According to the HISTORY OF CLINTON COUNTY, AARON MASON moved to Clayton, New York, after "the death of his wife."

His children by LYDIA ALDRICH (all born in Clinton County):

MARY MASON (possibly the MARY MASON who married JOSHUA MOORE)

ONDLY MASON

INNOCENCE MASON

DOLLY MASON

DARIUS MASON

LYDIA MASON

AARON MASON, JR. m. MARGARET HARRIMAN (I have extended this line through D.A.R. postings at Ancestry)

2 OTHER CHILDREN MASON (whose names I do not know)

His children by CHLOE BAKER (all born in Clinton County):

JOSEPH MASON

CHLOE MASON

ELIAKIM MASON

JOHN MASON

LYDIA MASON

MARIA MASON

THOMAS MASON

ADELIA (DELIA) MASON m. JOHN EELLS

NATHAN MASON m. SOPHRONIA CLARK

I am looking for additional information on his daughter, MARY MASON.

Does anybody have extended information - who she married; did she die young, etc. I am hoping that she married JOSHUA MOORE as that would solve an puzzle for me.

I did see in TREE TALKS a mention of one member of this family appointing JOSHUA MOORE, WATERMAN EELLS (my ancestor), and ELISHA BUTTON to handle his affairs after death so there is definitely a family connection.

JOSHUA MOORE and MARY MASON were the parents of my ancestor, LILLIS MOORE who married SAMUEL EELLS.

Any enlightenment on this family would be appreciated.
I thought i might throw this out here for discussion or help. I have a Zoe Allen, born 1850-1939, buried in Evergreen Cemetery. She married Thomas Carter in 1872. Thomas was the son of Antoine Carter and Eliza. I can only find them on the 1880 cenus in Plattsburgh. I have no info on Antoine and Eliza. Zoe can be found 1900 Plattsburgh with her new husband Joseph Bushey. His household list Zoes children with Thomas as stepchildren. Joseph must die and Zoe(Zoa) married Benjamin Sharkey. She can be found in many articles on the Historical NY Newspaper site. One of Zoes son,Zeffay marries Florence Sears, the daughter of Frank and Martha. Zeffay has a daughter, among other children, named Bernice. She marries John Thew. Zoe and Thomas Carter also have a son named Thomas. Thomas married Esther Bushey. I believe they were step brother and sister. Esther was married before to ? Lampkins. Like i said all of these peoples deaths and lives can be found on the Newspaper site. I didnt know if this would help anyone out there. Im really interested in Zoe Allen and Thomas Carter. My actually line is thru Zoe's brother, Edward Allen(1854 Keeseville, NY-1934 Plattsburgh, NY)who married a Harriet Carter. Any help with the Allen and Carters would be welcomed. Thanks so much, Ronnie

Martha, Hiram, James, Stephen Morse, and the Gates and Crandall Families

Does anyone have information on the Morse and Gates family in Clinton County. I have the wills for Hart and Sarah Gates from Oneida County and the cemetery record for William Hart Gates and Martha Morse. Martha's granddaughter said in some notes that Martha's maiden name was Morse and that William Hart Gates was her second husband, born in Clinton County, her first husband had the last name of Crandall and they had a son together. Her notes also said that she had three brothers named Hiram, James and Stephen all born in Clinton County and two sisters named Mary Ann and Betsy. Martha was born in 1800 in New York (possibly Clinton County); she had Maria Adelaide Gates in Jul 1829,Charles Hart Gates in 1837 and possibly John Gates in 1822. She and William are in Oneida County in 1830 and 1840. Martha was buried at the Rathbunville Cemetery in Verona Oneida County and died in Westmoreland 7 Oct 1844. William died 7 Jul 1846 and is buried at the same cemetery. He was born in 1793, possibly in Clinton County. Maria and Charles Gates are living with their grandfather Hart Gates in the 1850 census in Westmoreland Oneida County. His and his daughter Sarah's wills help connect Maria and Charles to their parents.

I have never seen anything on Martha's family except for her granddaughters notes and am hoping that someone recognizes these family names.

Does anyone have any help for me?
In the 1865 census other Boyer's families are listed as living in NEAPCITY?
George and Josephine P???? in Redford

I am looking for more information on George and Josephine, who lived in Saranac / Redford for many years - earlier than 1850 and were still living in 1880.

The problem is the surname. I have seen the following variations: Pappas, Pipin, Pepin, Paupau, Pappa, Papien, Papeau and Pupor. In the 1850 census the husband was called Joseph - otherwise he's known as George.

Josephine has two maiden names ascribed to her in different records: Ethier and Sircy.

George - according to census records - was born about 1811 in Canada.
Josephine - also from census - was born about 1821 in Canada.
They probably married about 1842 - their first child was born about 1843 in NY.

Perhaps George was related to John or Louis Papa listed in Saranac in the 1840 census.

George and Josephine had the following children:
1. Lucy or Lovina b. about 1843 married Pierre Hercule "Isaac" Royal in Redford 1867. She died in Williamstown, Mass. 1892
2. Josephine b. about 1847
3. Amelia b. 1850 - unmarried living with Maggie in 1930
4. Delia about b. 1852
5. George bapt. 1853 at Assumption in Redford, probably died young
6. John about b. 1855 (Jean bapt. 1855 in Redford)
7. Elizabeth b. about 1858 (Isabelle bapt. 1858 in Redford) She might have married Pierre Dupras 1879
8. Maggie b. about 1861 (Marguerite bapt. 1861 in Redford) Prob. married Pierre Brickey and was living in Saranac in 1930.

I have found no clue about where George and Josephine were married and where they came from, other than "Canada". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Seeking parentage of Joseph Alfred Colombe (Colomb) b. 1874

Due to the burned 1890 Census, I am missing the connection of this man with his birthplace.

The ONLY record showing a potential connection to Champlain, NY, is the 1880 Census for Champlain, NY:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&ssrc=p...

This hit is based on YOB of 1874 and variant of the last name.

I do not feel comfortable accepting this person as my kin because of the number of Joseph Colomb/e's on Ancestry.com. If the 1890 Census for this area had survived, I would have felt comfortable attaching him to my tree if he and his parents showed up in Barre, Vermont.

He shows up married to Alice E Stacy (b. 1882) of New York, with no elderly parents living with them, on the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Censuses for Barre, Vt. Without the parents coming along, confirming place of birth would be difficult for me. He must have died no later than 1942 because Alice is listed as Joseph's widow in the Barre City Directory that year.

Does anyone in Champlain, NY, recognize Joseph Colomb/e or Alice Stacy Colombe as kin? Do you know where they were born? What source did you use?

I could reciprocate by finding Colombe and/or Stacy info at Barre City Hall the next time I am in Barre to visit my mother.

I am looking for information on the Maston or Mastine family from Chazy. They are William & Mary Ann. they had a daughter Edna who married William Harrison Fitch who had my ggg grandmother Lillian Fitch b1865 & a boy named James H. b 1863. It is believed that Mary Ann & William Maston(Mastine) raised the children possible after the death of their mother. Lillian married Albert Valentine & had a large number of children with him. After he died, she married a man by the last name of Sheldon. If anyone has info on this family, please let me know. My email is cutter58@uswest.net

Alice & Florence Loso

I'm looking for info on my Grandfathers half sisters Alice, b. abt. 1917, and Florence, b. 1911. Their parents were Joseph Loso & Mabel Durocher. What I know about Alice; She was living with her half brother, Henry Loso at the time of their fathers death in 1927 and when the 1930 census was taken. On Jan. 19, 1934 she married Edward J. Gallagher, they had a baby boy stillborn July 20, 1934, buried at St. Peters Cemetery, Plattsburgh. In 1934 they were living at 20 Michaud Street, Plattsburgh. The next info I have on Alice is from her mother's obit in Dec. 1942, which stated that she had a daughter Miss Alice Loso of Baltimore, Md. Florence Marie, b. March 9, 1911, at the time of her fathers death she was living in Ct. In her mothers obit it stated she had a daughter Miss Florence Loso of Albany, NY. I have found some possible evidence that Florence may have married someone by the name of Peterson in the late 20's early 30's. Florence & Alice's siblings were; Perley, Eva, & Edward, half brothers; Charles, William Stanley, Joseph Henry, Earl, Silas, Clarence, Walter, & John Elmer. This is all I have on Florence & Alice, so any info would be greatly Appreciated!!! Their mother remarried after their father died to a man named Charles Brown.

Is anyone local that can look up a baptism for me on a Moses Rivers/Rivet at St Peters chuch, would have been about 1884 or 1886, looking for parent's names. His birth name may not have been Moses, Moses may be an alternate name.

Alternate look up if possible, marriage between Moses Rivers/Rivet and Marie Louise Besaw, looking for both parent's names. Marriage would have been about 1904-1909. I know my grandmother (Moses' daughter) was baptised at that church so I am hopeful that her parents' marriage is also listed in those records.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Orrin Thurber (1884-1974) of Chazy/Peru

Looking for parents of Orrin Hardy Thurber. Possibly b. Chatfield, MN. Was in Chazy in 1900 through 1930. WWI draft lists him in Chazy and gives his birth as 27 May 1884. He was married at that time to Amy J.Woodley.

In 1920 and 1930 he lists birth as MN of parents b. OH.

In 1900 Hardy Thurber is with "mother" Eliza Thurber in Chazy. In 1910 Orrin H. Thurber is listed with "mother" Lida Thurber of Chazy. (The census has a Francis Fisher as head of household, but I believe that since Eliza/Lida has the surname Thurber, that the enumerator meant Orrin to be her son - not the son of the head of household, Fisher.)

I have also seen a 1999 GenForum posting saying - - "In the "Vital Records Index of North America" recently made available by the LDS Church, there is a reference that may be of help. Thurber, Oren male born 27 Mar 1884 Chatfield, Filmore, MN it lists his mother as Lydia Thurber."

SSDI has his death as Mar 1974 with the last residence as Peru, Clinton, NY.

Maybe there is information in an obit for him or for his mother. 1920 census has an Elizabeth Fischer b. OH living in Chazy. I didn't find her in 1930, so there may be a death record for Elizabeth Fisher between 1920 and 1930.

Any help appreciated. I have extensive Thurber information and am always happy to field questions and share the info.

I have been unable to find them on any census or other records. The first record I have for Rose is her 26 May 1888 Hartford, CT marriage to Clarence Truax. It was his first marriage and her second. The first was to (Unknown Bennett). The first census record I have for Rose is 1900 in Meriden, New Haven Co, CT. She states both of her parents were born in New York. Any clue would be greatly appreciated.

NASH FAMILY OF CLINTON CO, NY

Names associated with the Nash family in Clinton County include the following: Aubrey, Behan, Buckley, Canning, Cassidy, Coffey, Collins, Conway, Dwyer, Gregory, Grogan, Hammond, Hannigan, Healey, Hooley, Kear, Lyons, Mahanna/Mahoney, McErleanMurphy, Murray, O'Meara, Phillips, Pickett, Quinn, Slack, Tobin
For more information contact me.

FIRST GENERATION

The original information, compiled by a member of the Nash family, stated that the family was from Brandon, County Cork Ireland. I believe Brandon was in error, and the town was Bandon. There is no Brandon, but there is a Bandon, and records of various Nash's are found in Bandon. This information was compiled from a number of sources, and should not be used as proven information but as the basis for further research.

Catherine Nash was probably a widow when she and her children emigrated to America about 1849. Based on census information Catherine was born about 1780 in Ireland.1 She died in probably in NY. The following children came to America, although I am not positive that they all came at the same time:

+2 i. Samuel NASH.

+3 ii. Mary NASH.

+4 iii. John NASH.

+5 iv. Nancy A NASH.

+6 v. Patrick NASH.

+7 vi. Joseph NASH.

Will share information on their descendants.

The Stearns Family & Geneaoligical History for the State of NH, Vol. 3, page 1506 (in part):
John Roberts settled in Saranac, New York, Clinton County, and proceeded to clear a farm from the wilderness and remained there the rest of his life. He served as a volunteer in the Battle of Plattsburgh, held the office of Constable there for some 15 years, was one of the founders of the first Methodist Episcopal Church and also of a school.

He married first, Sarah Carr, and they had two children, Samuel B., and John Jr. Sarah died in 1845.

He married second, Eliza Barber, and they had 5 children, George, Andrew, Noah James, Charles, and Milard. Eliza died in 1815.

John is listed as buried in the Old Schuyler Falls Cemetery with wife Sarah, son Samuel, and "probable" parents, John and Ednah (Hilliard) Roberts. He is also listed in the Old Peru Cemetery with wife Eliza Barber, and son Milard. The dates on the stone in Schuyler Falls are, b. April 14, 1787, and died September 6, 1867. The dates on the stone in Peru are, 1786 - 1866.

I have been unable to find any info on him in Saranac, or Clinton County.

I would appreciate ANY help any one may be able to give me, or any suggestions as to how I might sort out this info, etc. I am at a brick wall here.

I found a census record showing them living in Saranac in 1850:

Wm G. Searls, age 34, b. Eng, wife Julia, age 25, b. Ireland at Saranac, Clinton co. NY.

I know that he was living in Cambridge MA until at least 1844 when he married his first wife Margaret there. Margaret passed away somewhere in NY (I don't know if they were visiting NY or had moved there) probably between November 1848 and April 1849. My assumption, is that Margaret passed away in or near Saranac.

Because there was such a short time between Margaret's death and William George remarrying to Julia McCormick (I believe in NY, between Nov 1848 and 1850), I presume that he already knew her and that they married in or near Saranac. However, that is all conjecture on my part

I would really appreciate any information that would help me know exactly when/where Margaret passed away, where and when William George and Julia married, if Julia passed away in the Saranac area shortly thereafter (possibly in 1852 based on the birth of their first child) or otherwise separated (William George married again between 1852 and about 1858), and what happened to William George (I have a large blank between 1852 and 1858 when he homesteads in Wisconsin).

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Cheers

Jerry Sehlke
Idaho Falls, ID

Ruth E. Ingram/Stay b 30May1898 to a James Ingram and Leana/Lena Parish. Ruth grew up in the Plattsburg and White Plains, NY areas. Upon the death of her parents, James' sister Emma Ingram and her husband Alex Stay adopted Ruth. Ruth left behind numerous (precious) photos of family members. Only first names on the backs of these photos so we have no idea who's who.

These photos appear to be all the same faces and areas. On the back of one in particular is 4 women, gotta be the late 1880's or thereabouts, it reads (in Ruth's handwriting) "Mother's People". I'm sure the family members of all these people would love to see them.

If anyone has info on these names, please contact me at: clhuntling@yahoo.com

I'd love the family members to see them. Just priceless.

I am searching for the family of two soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Clinton County, New York as their home of record. THey are dredited to this county.

Soldier: LAWRENCE L. BURLEIGH
Born: 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: September 12, 1950, KIA

Soldier: NORMAN JOSEPH ROBARE
Born: 1929, Caucasian
Date of loss: Jan. 26, 1951 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 155 families from New York that have not been located. There are t wo families from Clinton County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Simeon St Amour

I am seeking information on Simeon St Amour born in Canada about 1831. He married Delphina Sarrazin and had several children. I can find Simeon and Delphina in Franklin County church records where they baptized two children at St Patrick's in Chateautay, Nacisse in 1867 and Carolina in 1869. In Nov 1869 Simeon is in Clinton County. He is now known as Simeon St Thomas and his wife is now Josephine Sarrazin. In Ellenburg a child, Albert is baptized at St Edmund's in 1871. In 1876 he baptizes a child, Melonise ( boy or girl ?) at Parish at Ste Anne De Centreville in Mooers Forks. Simeon's last name is spelt St Amand. The odd thing is I cannot find him and his family in the U S federal census for 1860 or 1870. I find a lot of St Amours in the census for Franklin county for 1860 and 1870. I am sure these other St Amours are related to Simeon but I don't know how. I can find him and his family in the census in 1880 in MA where he is directly linked to me.
I would greatly appreciated any information or any ideas on how to continue my research.
Thank You
Alice Polmatier

My Gr-Gr-Gr-Gr GrandFather was Jeremiah Stowe d:18 JUL 1870, Buried:Stowe Cemetery Moores, Clinton, NY.
In the cemetery links I found a snippet that said he was 'tarred and feathered and douced off the bridge as a copperhead'.
I am wondering if someone could point me to another account of this. I checked the NNY newspaper site and found no reference to this incident. He is not buried with his wife and children, so he must have been somewhat of a rabblerouser lol.
It's fascinating what we find out when we start looking! Isn't it fun!
Thank you all.
last reference I have is these 2 listed as parents of Edouard Lavoie when he marries Marie Tremblay in 1839. I have searched high and low for anything else and have come up with nothing. Toussaint was a miltia man in the voluntary premier batallion in the defence of Quebec during the war of 1812. He may have moved to the area s. of montreal as a result of the conflict. I do not know this for a fact. Just conjecture.
