That's too bad that Cornishminer is a sloppy researcher.
I've had similar problems with people who refuse to delete my relatives from their trees even when it is clear that we are not related. That's why I made my tree private - so others can't lift the information inappropriately.

I did find a Patrick Gaynor living in Wisconsin in 1870. He was a farmer with a wife and daughter. This is plausible because farmers tended to migrate westward in the 19th century. The first census I found in NY on the Gaynors/Gainers was from 1860. All the ages matched, so did birthplaces to this 1870 census. However, the names didn't match. The wife was Mary and the daughter Ann. So I continue scrolling down and found the 1870 Patrick living in Wisconsin in 1860. Different family!

Unfortunately the link did not work very well but as it happens I know of "Cornishminer" She does not know of New York and in addition while she has got some facts correct, a lot are just plain wrong. For example she has Andrew Leslie in Cincinnati with a different family. She has both Andrew and Janet living in two different places at the same time.

Bottom line is that she does not have any info. that I do not already have, and the extras are incorrect. I have mentioned this to her but got no response.

Please do not let that stop you.

I very much appreciate your efforts and it is slowly beginning to move ahead.

I found Janet and Andrew in a Public Member Tree on ancestry.com. Are you a subscriber of ancestry.com? The tree is owned by someone who calls himself cornishminer, and he's from out west in the USA.

I am not sure.

My Janet Allan was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1813.
According to the legal document I have, she was married to Andrew Leslie and was living in Attlebury, Dutchess County in 1864.

A sister, Marion, who was married to Patrick Gainer, was also there in 1864.

As you know, married women were frequently referred to by their maiden name. So without more info. I cannot answer your question.

Just to add to this wee mystery, Janet died in Glasgow, Scotland in 1896 and had been married to 1. Andrew Leslie and 2. John Fraser.

Do the passenger lists indicate if Janet was traveling alone, or with others?

I found three Janet Allans who were born in Scotland 1816-1820 and arrived in New York City from Glasgow in 1848, 1849, and 1852, in the New York Passenger Arrival Lists. They arrived in New York City.

Any connection to your Janet?

MA (Mary Ann?) Gainer age 3 daughter born in New York

The correct spelling of the name of the hamlet is Attlebury . It is located in the Township of Stanford near the village of Pine Plains in Dutchess County. Here is a link to the Dutchess County Historical Society . They may have more information on the history of Attlebury and its inhabitants

We knew three elderly sisters whose maiden names were Allen and they were from that part of the county. Unfortunately, they are all deceased now. I'll see what I can find.

I do not know for sure as far as these folks are concerned, but I do know that this has happened frequently with other ancestors who went to the U.S.

So, it is entirely possible that they were known as "ALLEN"

I have been searching under both spellings.
It is also possible that Andrew Leslie who was married to Janet Allan (or Allen) died in New York State.

Allan Family in Attleberry, Duchess County

I have just obtained copies of various legal Documents regarding my ancestors,one of which mentions Janet Allan and Marion Allan.

An extract from one of these legal documents is as follows :-
"...the said Janet Allan or Leslie, being presently resident in Attleberry, Duchess County, State of New York" and also

"Marion Allan or Gayner, wife of Patrick Gayner, resident in Duchess County, State of New York"

While I do have the birth of these sisters, and their siblings, I knew nothing else until their names popped up in this Minute of Agreement. The agreement is dated 26 January, 1865 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland which is where my family are from.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

First, yes I have purchased a couple of the Kinship books and one I found helpful and the other, while not having the exact people I was searching for, had other relatives in my tree.
Unfortunately in this particular book there are no Cussutticas under any spelling variation.
There was a Finkle though.
On 6/22/1919 a Miss Mary Finkle of Lime Rock, CT married James E. Benedict of Millerton, NY.

Hello. Let me first say Thank you for your time. I am researching my Great Grandfather who's surname is cussuttica (possibly born in 1863, and originally from Poland). It is a rare name that has lead me to many dead ends. My great grandmother's name was Anna Emily Finkle; she was much younger than him. I am inquiring about the surname: Cussuttica.

Question: Have you purchased many kinship books? I hope you found what you were looking for when you bought it!

Viola's sister is my grandmother, Louise Gertrude Kampf. Their father is Stephen Kampf(1861-1895); their mother, Emma (1866-1945). I found a marriage record on line for Viola and Frederick E. Bartlett which gave Viola's mother's name as Emily Brilleman, which is incorrect. Emily Brilleman is Viola's grandmother. Viola's father died at a young age and her mother remarried. I have yet to learn Emma's maiden name.

I am looking for any info on the parents of Newell H. Anderson, born in Fishkill, NY on 31 July, 1886 and his sister Blanche, born in May ,1894. They show up in the 1900
census with their Mother Margaret( Maggie ) Anderson ,living with an Aunt Julia Haight but no father. The father is I believe Henry Anderson b. 1860. I have no date on the mother. She is a Haight I believe. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for any light you might shed on her ancestors. My "guess" is a John Humphrey, Jr., son of John Humphrey. Both appear in the right area in the 1790 Federal Census.

They don't have actual hospital records, however they have death records if you believe your relative died at the hospital. I filled out the form and sent in payment and had my death certificate in about 2 weeks! Here's the info they sent me with the form to fill out:

I don't check my replies on ancestry very often so I'm glad I saw yours.

Have you made any progress in your search? My granduncle was there around the same time your person was there. I have a few letters he wrote to family that place him there as well as Census records, but have not been able to get any further. One of the folks who replied to my request has suggested New York State Archives. Have just given that a look because I do not have time to follow up today. If I get beyond this brick wall I will post it on ancestry.

I had just started on this line I did find Pittstown but limited info on it and somehow connected this as a good possible with my Wm. I know this is an extremely old thread, but I'm trying to spread the word as much as possible: William and Eunice's daughter Eliza was NOT born in Patterson. This is a widespread error that began with an essay in DESCENDENTS OF ROBERT AUSTIN by her son Dempster Christie Austin, where he misremembered the name of her birthplace. Eliza was born in Pittstown, Rensselaer, New York, not Patterson. 1855 and 1865 state census records confirm that Eliza Williams Green Austin was born in Rensselaer County, as was her brother Ebenezer Williams (b. 1808).

There is a child named Zimri Williams buried in Pittstown in 1810 (d. aged 10) and the grave is marked "son of William & Eunice Williams", which further confirms placement of this family in this location. The family was in Dutchess County, but relocated first to Pittstown sometime around 1805-1807, and then to Adams, Jefferson, New York by 1820. I am in the process of tracking down the various children of William D. at this time to try to nail down the exact timing further.

Not sure if you're still looking, but I just received my g-g grandmother's death certificate from the Town of Poughkeepsie. She was a patient in the 1930 census. It listed cause of death, how long she was at the facility, etc. Shoot me a message and I can send you the form and the info via email.

The NYS Vital Records Index shows that Thomas Dangerfield married Clara A. A. Petty on 12/24/1902 in Norwich, NY. The state record number is 26841. No further information is shown in the index. If you need a copy of the record, you will be better off obtaining it from the locality as NYS response times are painfully slow.

I am looking for any information on Michael O'Donnell. I have found him on the census records up to 1920, but disappears in the NY 1925 census. He was naturalized on 18 October 1875. I am trying to find the name of his father and mother and his birthplace in Ireland. I am traveling to Ireland in June and would love to take pictures to bring back to his granddaughter who is 93 to see.

Some more information:

He married Pearcy "Anna" Todd on 28 Dec 1868 in Tattnall County, GA.

Attached is a passport application done by his son, Richard O'Donnell.

In 1909, a VIOLA AGNES KAMPF, age 18, marred a FREDERICK BARTLETT, in NYC.. Frederick died in 1911.

I am trying to find her..working on the BARTlETT LINE.

Benjamin was born in Massachusetts about 1777, according to the 1855 state census. This and the fact that he was an active Quaker are strong evidence that he was not the son of the Revolutionary War soldier William Gifford(who was said to have had a son Benjamin).

There is a newspaper advertisement from 1803 in which Benjamin W. Gifford announced he wouldn't be responsible for the debts of his wife Cynthia. Evidently they were separating or divorcing. This was in Glens Falls, NY.

It looks like Benjamin was identical with the Benjamin who was the son of Benjamin (Josiah-3 John-2 William-1) Gifford who died at Dartmouth in 1779. This Benjamin married Ruth (Whitten) Shepard. Their oldest daughter Grace married Nathaniel Sisson and went to Glens Falls, NY. It looks like they raised Benjamin and took him there. They certainly were active Quakers. The son Benjamin is otherwise unidentified.

I may have found obits for Michael and Anna at www.fultonhistory.com in the Poughkeepsie Eagle-News.
His in the Thursday, Jan 5, 1922 Poughkeepsie Eagle-News.
Hers in the Friday Aug. 15, 1930 Poughkeepsie Eagle-News.

I had to cut a little off top of Anna's obit. The full heading says " ILLNESS IS FATAL TO MRS O'DONNELL"

His isn't very informative, hers gives place of burial as Calvary cemetery, Arlington.
If you contact someone who has to do with the cemetery or church he attended they may have names of parents.

Hello- I'm looking for any information possible on Isaac Cowan, who was living in what was Fredericksburg, Dutchess County during 1756- 1775. He later moved to Hancock, MA and spent many years living in Stephentown, Rensselaer County, NY. I'm looking for the names of his parents as well as there's a rumor he had a first wife. His 2nd wife was named Dorcas (Tabitha)- I believe they were married around 1783'ish. Thank you in advance!
