I am researching brothers Elbridge Hyde( 1836- ? ) and Volney Hyde(1833-1880). Both were born in Vermont, which town is not known. Volney came to Chateaugay in the 1850's and married Sarah Ann Peck. Their children were Willard, Harvey, John, Marietta, Berton, and Newton. Elbridge bought land in 1868 in the town of Brighton less than a mile from Meacham Lake. He stayed there until 1891 when he sold his land to Henry Doty. His land records show that by the time he sold his land in 1891 he had married a woman named Charlotte. Elbridge was a well thought of Guide for that area and his name is found in books that mention guides of that time. In the 1870 and 1880 census he is living with his mother. In both census' it is difficult to read her name, it may be either Lurena or Loamy. Also in the 1880 census his nephew Harvey is living with him. I also believe Volney and Elbridge may have lived in Canada before they came back to the states and settled in Franklin County. Can anybody help with parents names or where they came from in Vermont?
