sklipper@bitstream.net

I spent the better part of the summer of 1985 photographing the cemeteries and memorials along the Western Front. The keeper on the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery showed me around and I encountered her grave marker -- one of the rare ones with a female name. I made a photo of it. Coming up on Memorial (Decoration) Day I looked through that bobdy of work and saw her name. In this search engine era I figure to give a go on seeing whatall I could find about her. That's how I lit upon your quiry.

Stuart Klipper

Hi all,

My great grandmother had a sister, Mary Madeline "Mattie" McKinnon who married Daniel McDougall and lived in Purling NY. I have them on the 1910 Census, as living in Cairo NY; and reference from an immigration document that they were living there in 1914.

I also found this from the Town of Cairo Tax Assessment 1911

McDougal, M.	Briggs Rider place	2	100 100 1.96

--> Anyone know what the Briggs Rider Place is?

After that, I am having trouble tracing the family, but I have probably 20+ pictures of the area, with my grandfather and friends hiking and horseback riding, and around the farmhouse.

Mattie is buried in the family plot in Jersey City, NJ (where my great grandparents and grandfather lived), having died in 1938.

I wonder if anyone has suggestions on records, or might be even able to recognize a photo, if I post it. I would really love to know where the farm was.
This website has four subpages of inscriptions for the Athens Rural Cemetery. Most of the information was compiled in 2000, although records from 1933 were used if the stones were no longer legible. Is it possible that you had only a partial list?

Also note that "The New Athens Rural Cemetery is NOT documented here. Cemetery records have improved greatly and, if you need information about someone interred in Section 4 or above or someone that has passed away after 1999, please contact the Athens Rural Cemetery Association directly. Graves are still being used in the old portion but no plots are available for sale."

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nygreen2/athens_rural_ceme...

I was looking for records and found online list for Athens, especially looking for Wheelers. I printed the list and went in search of these people. Found a couple on the list, but not the ones I was interested in.
I came home and looked to see if there was more info on this cemetery. I found another list and it did not have the Wheelers on it that I had on first list.
Anyone know where I can obtain correct list for this cemetery?
Thanks
Judy

Margaret Sigwarth was living in Hudson, NY in 1948. The largest cemetery in that city is Cedar Park. Maybe the cemetery department clerk can tell you if she was buried there.
Miss Margaret Sigwarth of Hudson, Columbia County, NY was mentioned in a Thursday, July 1, 1948 article in the Greene County Examiner-Recorder (published at Catskill, Greene County, NY) when she attended the wedding of Wilda Jean Valentine to Raymond E. Larson in Catskill and caught the bouquet. If she subsequently married, it would explain why I haven't been able to find her listed under her maiden name.

Found these two items about a Joseph Barry Sigwarth. Might he have been a nephew to Margaret? According to the Social Security death index he was born on May 5, 1929. That source also says that a Charles Sigwarth who was born on March 9 1901, died in May 1984, and Amelia Sigwarth born October 3, 1900, died June 2, 1992, were both residents of Albany County, NY when they died. Perhaps they were Joseph's parents.

http://files.usgwarchives.net/ny/albany/obits/atu/2004/sep/a...

"Sigwarth, Joseph Barry
CORTEZ, Colo.
According to this website, Edward Ellenburg (1871-1923) and Elizabeth (Sigwarth) Ellenburg (b. 1875, no year of death on gravestone) are buried in the Jefferson Rural Cemetery in Catskill, NY. It's possible that her year of death was added to the gravestone after this list was compiled.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nygreen2/new_jefferson_cem...

Edward died on August 18, 1923 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, NY. He was survived by his wife, his father William Ellenburg, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He had been a patient at the Hudson River Hospital just prior to his death.

Elizabeth (Sigwarth) Ellenburg died on April 14, 1956 in Saugerties, Ulster County, NY. Her death was reported in The Knickerbocker News, Albany, NY.

http://fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

I "inherited" an unsourced family tree (husband's paternal grandmother). A brief search on Ancestry reveals Green(e) family trees back to the 1300's but the connections are not sourced and the Green(e) name is very common in Rhode Island / England. I am looking for sourced information to make a connection between William Green 1790-1883 (NY) and Job Green @1756-1803 (RI) and ancestors. I have seen the 1880 US Census sourcing some names in the family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New York State did not require its city, town and village clerks to keep vital records until about 1880, so you won't find a birth certificate from 1868 in Coxsackie, NY.

Got another update, this one if for the Gayhead Cemetery. Line 5 reads: Jesse Craw, b. January 7, 1913, d. January 8, 1913. If you move to the bottom of the web page there is a section that talks about some information that might have come from an DAR transcription. Line 5 in that section ties back to line 5 at the top, as Lewis and Charlotte Craw are the parents of Jesse.

Dan

Not sure who to tell, but I found a correction for the Stonebridge Cemetery in Durham. Line 286 read Rev. Lyman Craw, d. December 18, 1844, aged 68y - date of death probably should read 1864 as he is listed as age 64 on the 1860 census for Durham; he is living with his daughter Sarah, who is line 285. I understand that the 1844 date could have come from the condition of the headstone. The link to the web site is: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nygreen2/stonebridge_cemet...

Dan

Thanks for the leads for Roxanna and Susan as well as the information on the town/village name. I think that I hit the gold mine when you made your first reply to me and give me the leads. It is going to take me a while, but I know I will be busy for the next little while.

Dan
