PERRY S. COBB
Perry S. Cobb, 100, oldest resident
of Adams and one of the last members of the Deal ton Cooper Post, G. A, R., died Tuesday afternoon Jan. 25,
1927, at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Fannie Woodall. He had been
in failing health for the past two
years. Death was due to the infirmities of old age.
For some time he had been confined to his bed but last fall he
was able to sit in a chair in the yard
at his daughter's home while his
picture was taken, his only surviving
brother, Elijah E.Cobb, 94, standing
beside him. Elijah E. Cobb , now at
the National Soldiers Home in Virginia, is the father of former Senator
George H. Cobb.
Perry Soles Cobb was born at Lysander, Onondaga County, Jan. 13, 1826, son of Joseph and Margaret
Soles Cobb. There was some doubt
in Mr. Cobb's mind during his later
years as to whether his birthday
Was in 1826 or 1827 and he believed
that it was the latter. His brother,
Elijah E. Cobb, however, and other
relatives said that the family Bible
which some years ago was destroyed
by fire gave his first natal day as
being in 1826.
He was one of nine children of
whom only one now survives. Longevity was a characteristic of the
family, Mr. Cobb's father having
lived until his 89th year, and his
grandfather until his 99th. A brother,
Elijah, is now in his 94th year.
His father was born in 1800 and
as a boy of 12 assisted in the conduct of the war of 1812 by carrying
chains for surveying parties through
the wildernes of. Jefferson Co.
Since he was a small boy Mr.
Cobb had resided in Jefferson County,
60 years at Pierrepont Manor and the
past 13 years at Adams. He used to
tell of rowing a boat on the St. Lawrence river when that section of the county was
country was almost all forest with
here and there a clearing and settler's
cabin.
In 1854 he married Miss Ann
Denee, who was of French descent,
the ceremony being performed at
Dexter by Rev. Asa Saxe. To this
union there were eleven children
born of whom seven are now living,
four sons, Madison P., William H.,
George J. and John J., being deceased.
Those surviving are Mrs. Mary,
Jane Hogan, Buffalo; Mrs. Margaret
Ann Steel Badgely, Richland, N. Y..

The oldest daughter is Mrs, Hogan
has nine children and 21 grandchildren; Margaret Badgeley has had
five, children and five grand children;
Charles E. Cobh has had nine children and five grandchildren; Alma
Fletcher has had six children and
two grand child en; Emma S. Parker
has had three children and four
grandchildren*; Fannie L. Woodall.
has eight children and nine grandchildren; Ira T. Cobb has ten children and two grandchildren. This
record is unique, showing that Perry

descendants: 11 children, 63 grandchildre n, 71 great - grandchildren and
six great - great - grand children
The above detailed record was compiled by the family - several years
ago. Since that time there have been other additions, bringing the total number of grandchildren

When the Civil War broke out
Perry Cobb and three brothers
enlisted, Perry in the Tenth New York
Heavy Artillery; Elijah in the ???,
New York Infantry. Eli in the twenty fourth
New York Infantry and John in
Ninth New York Heavy Anrtillery
John was wounded at the charge
Petersburg when the mine was blown
up, was captured and died in Andersonville prison.
His three brothers
served u til they were honorably
discharged.
Mr. Cobb cast his first vote for
president in 1848 for Zachary Taylor
and four years later for the Whig
canidate. Since that time he has
voted a straight Republican ticket
and for 75 years did not miss any
election. In 1865 he voted for
Abraham Lincoln and on the night the
war president was assassinated he
was standing guard in Washington
Funeral services were held Saturday
morning at 10" from the Methodist
Episcopal Church. Rev. W A
Gardner officiating. Burial was made
at Mannsville
