Surnames: EVANS, Fisher, Tucker
Born in NH c. 1796, Columbus EVANS and his wife Frinda or Friendly FISHER b. 1800 are said to have removed to NY by 1840; they appear in the federal census of Alexandria NY beginning in 1850. Their son William F. EVANS 1828-1908 and his wife Mariette/Maryett or Mary Etta TUCKER 1833-1921 lived on an adjacent lot.
QUESTION: What is their relation (if any) to Jefferson County's early settlers Urial, Eldad and Ethni EVANS, for whom EVANS Mills was named? Family legend states Columbus was related to this older generation, and he named one of his sons Urial. The older Urial and his brother Eldad EVANS came from a large family, 17 children, from Hinsdale, Cheshire County NH.
A daughter of William F. Evans, Ida Sophia EVANS DeYoung, was my great-grandmother. Any leads appreciated.
