Hello Kathy,
I am assisting a Swartwout descendant to become a member of the DAR under the service of Johannes Swartwout and his wife, Aaljte Bedell.

I have the line to John Swartwout of Cape Vincent, Jefferson Co., NY and his wife, Sally, both of whom are buried in the St. Lawrence Rural Union Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY. I have photos of the gravestones. John died May 13, 1868, aged 87 years, which would make his birth year 1781.
His wife, Sally, died Jan. 10 1875 aged 90 years. This would make her born 1785.

I think this John is the son of Johannes and Aaljte of Oppenheim,Montgomery Co., NY but it disagrees with your info. Your John died in Half Moon, NY which is a good distance from Jefferson Co., NY. Cape Vincent is on the St. Lawrence River, just about to Lake Ontario. Are there two Johns? All of this is chronicled in several pages entitled The Cape Vincent, NY Heritage.

This John & Sally had children: Enoch, Daniel B., John Jr., Lucinda, Samuel J. and Richard. There may be others. Samuel J. Swartwout, b. April 1822, married Angeline Merrill of Jefferson Co. abt. 1849 and he died in Downey, Los Angeles Co., CA 22 Aug 1902. Brother Richard, b.1824, died 5 Sep 1903 in Downey, Los Angeles Co., CA at the home of Samuel's son, Fremont Dayton Swartwout. Enoch died in Jefferson Co., NY and had 12 children. He is buried in the same cemetery as his father and mother.

Do you have any thoughts on John?

If I am imposing on your time, I do apologize, but if you can assist in anyway, we would be most grateful.
