I would like to get the death certificate of my great-great-granduncle who died in Brooklyn in the early 1950's, over 60 years ago. I understand that the Municipal Archives only go as far as 1948, and I downloaded the form to request a death certificate from the NYC office of vital records. However, on looking at the form instructions, I am unsure as to whether I am able to request the form because I am not a direct descendant. (His sister, my great-great-grandmother, died in Europe, probably in the Holocaust, so whatever records there are will be more difficult and expensive to get if they even exist.)
Does anyone know if I would be able to get the death certificate at all?
