Hi, thanks for the reply. Right, that's what makes that time period tough with the censuses. Levi came to Kingston, NY around 1845, and prior to that he may not have been old enough to be a "head of household" so he likely doesn't show up in prior censuses.
I have a copy of Levi's death certificate, which states his father was Benjamin Snyder, born in New York. The mother's name isn't listed, but does say "born in New York" also. The certificate doesn't list Levi's birthplace, but the funeral home record and cemetery record list Sullivan, NY. I did see historical information that Snyders came to the Sullivan/Lenox area around 1792, perhaps that's a hint, I'm not certain yet.
I was trying to research Benjamin Snyder in the 1810 and 1820 censuses, but there were none listed in Madison County - although there's no guarantee Benjamin himself was a head of household at those times either.
