Thanks to the two of your for your leads on my research question. The period I have in mind is probably the 1840s when my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Carruthers (b. 1819) would have been in his 20-30s, so this would be a school for adults such as Roberts Wesleyan. It is possible he met his wife, Minerva Collins of Gates, at school. Their marriage was reportedly 1854, which is why I believe he would have been attending school in the 1840s.
