This was in a 2009 post. If he was born in Rochester (Monroe County) in 1814, that would have been one of few white folks here then. They might have meant Rochester, Ulster County, NY, near NY city. See: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Message Board Post:
Am seeking information on John's parents and siblings. John F. Lockwood was born July 1814 in Rochester, New York and died September 1898 in Humboldt County, California. (Birth date and location not confirmed, reported as such in "Some deaths & burials in Humboldt, County California, 1852-1905").
John was in Michigan by 1838. Not sure if he married there or married before leaving New York. He married Mary Adams.
The 1840 Census has John in Sterling Twp, Macomb County Michigan, as does the 1850 Census. By 1860 he is in Iowa, the 1870 and 1880 Census in California. (Mary staying in Michigan.)
I have no clues as to John's parents or family. There are several Lockwood's in the Macomb area, but have not connected John F. Lockwood to them.
Any help or ideas welcome. I am a desecendent of his son John Alva Lockwood (b1856 d1936) Thank you.
