Seeking information on Elisha Reed Wheeler, (1804-1854) who resided in Carthage (Irondequoit) sometime between 1835 and 1854. He was married to Caroline Rogers, sister to Hosea Rogers, the shipbuilder on the lower Genesee. Their children were Caroline, b.1839, Ezra Nathaniel, 1831-1899, and Hosea, d. 1857. Elisha was a schooner captain employed by the J.T.Trowbridge Company. His second wife was Eleanor Fowler (1822-1907). Their children were William Fowler Sr.(1842-1906), Frederick Ellsworth (1844 - ), Elisha Reed Jr.(1846-1897), Thomas Richard (1848-1877), Lewis David (1852- ), Mary Eleanor (1854- ), Albery Henry (1850-1864). Elisha Sr. is the son of Nathaniel Wheeler, a miller at Hooker's Landing, between the upper and lower falls of the Genesee, and Anna (Read) Wheeler. He had three siblings, that I know about, living in the Rochester area, Squire Wheeler, Olive Wheeler, and Valentine Wheeler.
The children of Eleanor all moved to Canada by 1871 or 1881, but I can find no records of the three children of his first wife, Caroline. I would also be interested to know if there are any records of the Trowbridge Co. which would show if Elisha died in a shipping accident somewhere on Lake Ontario in 1854. He sailed between Rochester, Oswego and Canadian ports.
Thanks,
Bob Wheeler, 5th ggrandson.
